For infusions you need bigger syringes. There are two types of PICC line one for term baby and another for preterm. The one for preterm is very small and can break with small syringes. You can use 5 ml syringe to check the patency but not for infusions. Clear guidelines by company to use larger syringes.

It offers more resistance to small syringes and your syringe pump will give alarm if you use smaller syringe.
