Tears For Fears cover in Split Screen... all instruments by Scott Haskitt. I wanted to experiment with my new Universal Audio Solo/610 mic pre, so I thought I'd cut my teeth on it with this recording/video. I ran just about everything through it... and then back through it - really warmed up the sound!

I love when my RUclips searching accidentally leads me to videos by extremely talented people. That was REALLY good! I was also very impressed by your production. It's very tight and clean with great separation, and it had a really nice analog warmth to it.

I'm always on the look out for great covers of my favorite songs. I only came across yours because I saw one by The Kooks. You're a pretty talented guy, and this is a pretty awesome take on the classic. I had chills when I first heard Tears for Fears sing this. I had a similar feeling when I heard yours. Cheers!

Epic, dude. Inspiring me to do the same (trying to find the time). You remind me so much of myself, man. You even sort of look like me, but not really. You're awesome, and your name on the v-drum forum is just perfect (Shawshank is the best damn movie ever).
I can't stress enough, it's important to check in with a voice instructor every so often to make sure you're not developing bad habits that may limit you or harm your voice. Other than that, I think it's a matter of learning the ins and outs of your unique instrument. No voice like the one you have!

@triclops8 - thanks! I love the solo 610. Example of what I did: After I recorded all the guitar tracks (initially using the 610), I got them basically ready for the mix and then ran the whole guitar submix out and through the 610 again for a little natural compression and homogenizing. I did the same with the drum tracks and keyboard tracks. Not easy because it's 1 channel so I had to run each side of stereo channels through it separately. Well worth the effort though!!

@haskitt First of all, thank you for your kindly words and help, I appreciate that. Yes, I do take voice lessons like 8 monthes though. I mean, falsetto is a pretty hard thing, 'cause there's kinda a... barrier [?] when you try to use it. Is that correct ? Anyway, thank you once again ! have a nice weekend. Greetings from brazil.

@PossessWithin - falsetto was really a long long process for me. I'm still not completely sure if I'm in falsetto or head voice on stuff like this song, but I started out just trying to get comfortable doing backgrounds and harmonies with it. Over time, I got more confident and started trying to sing full songs (with no one listening!!) using it. Just use it, use it, use it. Don't push too hard though. Do you take voice lessons? Listen to a lot of Jeff Buckley and sing along to whatever you can!

@hampisdrums - Thanks, Hampis! Man, I love this cymbal... sounds fantastic - problem is, I tried to avoid the natural reverb in the room (basement) the drums are recorded in, and I mic'ed the ride a little too close... ended up really clangy even after some eq. Should have done more trial and error and pulled the mic back some.
@yrureadingthisname - Thanks... I just checked out their stuff. Very cool. I'll download some of their stuff and if it really hits me I'll do something of theirs. Thanks for the recommendation!

How do you make these one man band split screen videos? You are super talented; The singing, the playing everything. This is one of my favorite songs. I am a muti-instrumentalist, not nearly as good as you but I am working on it. So can you tell me how to do it and what equipment to use. Mikie Dee
