Hey Lobster! I'm here because I'm on vacation with family and a local pawn shop has this exact MIM model on the wall...for $850 used. While everybody was knick-knack shopping up and down the touristy sidewalk portion of town, I plugged it in and had like 20 minutes with it before the shop closed. My exact thoughts were in line with what I just saw in your video, "I'll bet a Sire V5 is just as good, if not better," but I still had way more fun jamming with that than going through a third t-shirt store...
Hey low end lobster, I was thinking about buying that bass. Your review made a lot of sense. It cost more than my 5 string Sire V5. I’m glad I saw your video. PEACE!
So: 11lbs, inaccessible truss rod, rough around the edges finish and noisy pickups? No, no, and no. Fender UP YOUR GAME. Great honest review. Respect Sir!
My 2013 MIM Geddy Lee has a BadAss II bridge. The pickups sound great. I’ve never noticed the weight much. The truss rod adjustment is a relatively minor inconvenience. My only complaint is the circular route.
@@LowEndLobster Yes, and it seems like quality has suffered - or maybe the quality control. I only get a little 60 cycle hum when I solo the pickups. (Also, Sire doesn’t ship to Canadian addresses, and the sole (official) Canadian dealer is about 3,500 km away.)

Well done sir! I reviewed the Indonesian model for Bass Guitar Magazine, here in the UK, back in 2017 and that was an outstanding instrument for the money...it left some seriously expensive Jazzes hanging on the wall in its tracks, it was so good. I should have bought it but other priorities, bass purchase-wise, meant it didn't come home with me. Another great video....more please!
The jackson ric bass was Indonesian made too, and I love it. Seems like quality product coming from there last few years, seems to be very reminiscent in quality to Korean made
I sold my MiM jazz because of Cnc machine hole under pickguard and bought the superior Japanese Jazz ,Thanks Mr. Lobster ,! The world wants to hear the lobster hand !! Please
Hey Low. I own & will be reviewing the MIM Geddy bass on my channel. Mine is a 2020 model. I cannot agree with your review here. First, what one is getting here is a 1972 spec instrument. Alder body, vintage pickup spacing plus the pickups are American factory Pure Vintage. The headstock is slightly larger than the current standard. What one gets when buying one of these is a vintage reissue with an upgraded bridge & a Geddy autograph. Mine weighs in at just over 9 pounds which is the standard for these. I don't know how you ended up with with an 11 pounder. Mine does not have a noise issue with both pups set at equal volumes. Mine has a beautiful fit & finish. The frets are dressed nice with a perfectly bound & clear coated neck & body. The bass sounds & plays incredibly. Lastly, anyone who is looking at one of these Signature basses is not going to be interested in a Sire or any other brand or model. They are looking at a Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass for a reason. One thing I will agree with is the inconsistency in workmanship & quality control coming out of the Mexican factory lately. I have seen it over the past year or so getting really bad so I can see how you could end up with a noisy, poorly finished instrument but to be fair, I have seen some of these same issues coming out of the California factory too & I don't even want to get started on Gibson's workmanship & QC issues. Anyhoo, keep on rockin. Love your channel! PEACE!
Or just go with a MIJ to possibly get a more consistent bass. Also you are wrong as the Sire seems like a good deal and this is someone who is studying a GL bass. 👍🏻
Dig all of your reviews, Lobster! I have two Geddy's...a MIJ with EMG's, and a CIJ (crafted in Japan) with SD Basslines. Both necks are setup with very little relief, and string height set around 1/64. I can run up the neck on both basses with barely any fret buzz...they're both killer basses! Keep up the good work! 👊🏾✌🏾 I also have a G&L (Fullerton) Jazz Bass that's an absolute brut!...I think you would dig it!
I tried a Geddy Lee model in person once many years ago. I wasn’t crazy about it's sound or setup (which I know is partly because display setups are not great to start with), but I loved how the neck felt. A few years later, I ended up getting a Classic 70's Jazz Bass instead. I put a Fender High Mass Bridge and Seymour Duncan SJB-1 pickups on it and it has all the traits of the Geddy Lee model that I liked.
I traded a 1998 Rick 4003 for a 2005 Geddy Jazz back in 2005 and never looked back. I have only adjusted the truss once and I put some EMG X pickups in it, but this thing is a beast and always sounds amazing. It was my main goto bass until I saw your review for the Spector Eurobolt.
The pickup spacing on the Geddy bass is the 70's era spacing, which measures 4" center to center. The 60's era and current pickup spacing is 3.6" center to center. That spacing puts the bridge pickup closer to the bridge which gives it a brighter sound than the 3.6" spacing. it also growls more easily my '65 Jazz did, just by digging into the strings a bit over the bridge pickup.
I took your advice, just bought the new sire v5 rosewood fingerboard bass from Thomann’s. Love it to death, great bass and it’s a steal right now with the dollar so strong vs the euro.
I had the MIJ version somewhere around 15 years ago. Should have kept it but really wasn't thrilled with it at the time. Ain't hindsight grand? Thanks Lobster!🦞
I have one of those. I got it a few months ago after waiting quite some time for Sweetwater to get one in stock. I absolutely love it. It has two neck features that I generally prefer to avoid: gloss finish on the back and a U-shaped profile. However, as with my Tony Franklin signature fretless Precision I find the gloss rather than satin doesn’t bother me, and the U-shaped profile is actually extremely comfortable on a Jazz Bass, even with my small hands. The pickups sound great and overall it’s my favorite Jazz Bass of the several I’ve had. I love the finish and the matching headstock, which I wish Fender would do much more. I hate pickup and bridge covers so I took those off. I would have left the finger rest in place, but I usually change the pickguards so it came off when I put a silver paisley pickguard on it. Is it overpriced at a little over $2k? Yeah, probably. Do I care? Nope. Toying with the idea of buying another one and defretting it.
I had two Geddy Lee Jazz Bass in my life and if I remember correctly the first one was made in Japan and several years later one made in Mexico and there was some difference in the quality between the one made in Japan versus made in Mexico, the neck felt great on both though but I think it was kind of difficult to keep those basses in tune. Thanks for your demo and review LowEndLobster!!!
Never really been a Rush fan or Getty Lee but Sire is killing the bass game all the way around no way I would pay money like anymore for any Fender to be honest not when you can get better for less, Lobster thanks for keeping it 💯
The best advice I have is to search Reverb or eBay if you can for a slightly used version if you want the Geddy MIM. I was fortunate to find a MIJ one that was gently used for $700 a few years ago. It’s my favorite bass. Save the money and don’t buy the MIM Geddy brand new. I have to agree with that V5 too. I don’t need another Jazz Bass (for now), but you have great logic there!
I had 2 of those basses. Japan models.. I Couldn't get used to the neck. I always ended up with hand cramps. I have an American version now. Total satisfaction. Sound, feel , and craftsmanship are just so much better.
Thanks Lobster! You nailed it once again with this review. I agree on all your points of contention with Fender. Personally I think they are way to big for their britches these days. Too many bean counters in product development IMO. I could buy a Sire V5 and take my wife out to dinner every night for a week straight with what I would pay for this MIM offering. Cheers for now!
I got a bad one too. The frets are uneven, the electronics are poorly shielded and noisy, it has pretty bad dead spots, the pickups sound weak and are low output (even though they are high), the sponge underneath the pickups is stuck, the knobs are not connected properly and malfunction. I can tell yours sounds a lot better than mine too. I was very stupid for not having noticed any of this when I bought it because I got it second hand in a hurry but man am I disappointed. I do really like the sound of a geddy lee so I hope to sell this one and get a good one some day.
Kinda sad it wasn't a winner for you. I got the exact bass as a wedding gift from my wife. I threw in an Audere 4 band control plate and it made a huge improvement.
In 2005 I bought a 2nd Generation Geddy Lee Japan model Jazz Bass. After having it set up by Grass Hopper. Geddys Tech in 1981. Who works for Bass Central in Florida. The bass Played much better. Like Butter. But the USA Model plays a little better. And is built better to.
Completely agree with you on MIJ vs. MIM quality, Lobster. Almost every MIJ instrument has amazing craftsmanship. I'm not into Jazz Basses but if I were to choose one I'd go for the Geddy Lee, for sure. Great video!
I recently got MIM Mustang Bass, I'm very disappointed with it's quality, it's probably first and last Fender i'll be buying. Hell my SBMM Ray4, I paid 320 euros for, is three classes above it. And yeah for reference Mustang was 630 euros and waited 5 months for it.
Wow!😳 That's a shame!🤦 5 months wait!!😳& it was flawed?😠 No Excuse!👎🏿 Not good when Squire is better quality. Honestly, I don't think Geddy would sign off on this!👎🏿
Bummer Noise Lab! Yeah man, the MIM QC is all over the place. Some people get gems, other people get lumps of coal. Fender needs to up their consistency game!
Thanks for the review. I appreciate the honesty and transparency. There is no way I would every pay 1100 for that bass. It sounds ok, but the issues with shielding, routing, and the truss rod are all problematic. Good work as always Lobster.
A very honest video I found this channel just at the right time as I was considering one, but noisy electrics, & with a crazy weight, rough finish, cheap hard ware, no way !!! this is my plan what do you think?a 1972 (today's model) maybe polish the fret edges if needed, a Tom Bentley set Greedy pick- ups, a hip shot or high mass bridge, hip shot tuners and a set of hi grade aircraft grade pots(which are not expensive) then you should have a great instrument!🎸
P.S. I also changed out the stock Pick Ups. For Tom Brantley/Geddy Lee Pick Ups and had the nut replaced with a Graphtech nut. And it plays and sounds awesome.
I tried this MIM bass and didn’t really care for it at all. I ended up getting a 92 MIJ 62 reissue Jazz for much less. It sounds wonderful stock, no mods needed.
I have of these basses and really don't recognise the Lobster's descrition at all. Impeccably finished with no edges, zero hum, a totally different experience. Sounds like Fender's fanously variable QC is at it again.
I have a a MIJ from 2007/2008. It's a very good bass but I'm planning to sell it as I now play exclusively metal. Can't believe the price difference between the MIJ and this MIM, especially for such a lower build quality.
1:30 for that price I could test drive both the jaco and geddy from Vintage - and in all fairness, the demos I've seen of those make them look and sound like they put in some effort to reproduce the originals.
5:05 OH another HUMDRUM uh....it's getting stupid how many instruments you've gotten in the past 6 months that have some sort of QC glitch that spoils an otherwise acceptable fit and finish, for what it is. Schecter just dumped on the last round of Apocalypse models, but that's not this - point being, there are a LOT of options and it's been beyond a race to the bottom for a while now, so ELEVEN HUNDRED BUCKS AND IT BUZZES you had me at 1100 bucks - i just picked up an early Samick Valley Arts Custom Pro 5 string (make no mistake, the "custom pro" part is part of the model name) that is fooooooking adorbs for 299.99 at the local pawrn shop. Transparent Red on Ash and a one piece but scarfed nice maple neck...34" scale but the bridge is at the butt of the body so it's easy to get a reacharound on it and get your hand behind the bridge for some sharp groovin
12:45 I'm gonna say the same thing I say EVERY time you pull out a Sire - I've seen interviews with Kyle Kim and I think you would really enjoy talking to him, even if we never see the footage.
@@LowEndLobster Next year you'll be at NAMM, doing what though...I have no idea lol but you'll sort of have to go as a YT'er...some of the coolest signature models coming out are from people that were never in a band andor on the radio
@@LowEndLobster Also, it occurs to me that Trev Wilkinson is still alive. Again, every demo I've seen of any of the Vintage Icon series has been pretty sweet and uneventful.
It's probably a pickup thing, but I definitely noticed a lot more midrange definition on the Geddy vs the Sire. I just found a used CIJ Geddy for $600 and threw some Brantley's in it. Total monster to play! I do fully agree though that the price the MIM model is going for nowadays is a bit on the ridiculous side. Fender really jumped the prices up on everything in the last couple years. I've been researching how to build up another 70's pickup spacing jazz centered around a Geddy MIM neck without breaking the bank and it starts to add up real quick.
Thank you and great comment. You're completely correct. There's definitely a difference in the tone between Sire and Geddy, but just like you said - a set of Brantley's will probably make all the difference here. I should have kept the V5 and done that, but alas I can just get another one. Unrelated note, that's one of the things I love about the V5 is that it's inexpensive enough where I don't have to worry about actually using the bass and bringing it around. Basses like Pinky, my BFR Stingray don't leave the house lol
@@LowEndLobster The V5 exhibited the more scooped tone that I don't always care for that is usually found in the 60's spacing, which is kind of surprising even when I've listened to a lot of other 70's setup basses that tend to sound more like the Geddy. Not a dang thing wrong with Sire's though! Hard to beat for the price with quality components all around. The only thing a little more difficult is some aftermarket parts compatibility, but when the parts are already a good quality there is less of a reason to start swapping.
Great review. The MIM signature basses seem lacking in my experience too. Too high of a premium for not much extra feature wise, and in many cases sloppy build quality. I really need to check out the Sire basses.
Someone mentioned that the MIM Geddy Lee basses have identical pickups, like both are neck pickups. I just checked mine and my neck is south and my bridge is north.
Was gonna get the MIM version but now I might go for the USA version. It's almost twice the price, but if it means better quality and a better instrument overall it's worth it. Wish they continued making the MIJ version at a lower cost.
Could you do a review on the Ibanez SR306? I'm curious how they are for being in the $400~ range and I'm thinking about getting one. There aren't many reviews on them.
Yeah Lobster , Fender signature basses are a cash money grab, I've only got a CIJ Sting bass which I like. When I was thinking about the Geddy j bass I came to the same conclusion . I bought my first V7. The sire basses also have that nice rounded edge on the fingerboard , no circle rout under the pickguard. I'm a big Rush fan , Geddy is one of my biggest influences but I took a pass on the bass . Someday I'd like to take a look at the American Geddy bass but they are getting close to $2k - for a standard Jazz bass.
The truth doesn't hurt. I bought a Sire V5 and It replaced my MIM J Bass. Fender needs to cut back on so many models and focus on quality! Thanks for being honest...
Unfortunately it seems as fender has settled for producing a bass that “looks like “ a Geddy Lee, rather than one that actually is like a Geddy... I owned a Japan version back in the day and it’s was quite a tone monster. The pickups are definitely not the same. It’s just a black Jazz bass at this point ( with a premium price tag )
Agreed! I'm very excited for the chance to try a MIJ and MIA and compare it to this. I'm holding onto the MIM specifically for the comparison, then out the airlock... I mean onto Reverb ;P
Thanks ET! That sounds awesome! I actually used to have a 97 MIA Jazz in highschool with a maple neck and the beautiful green/teal paint job. Miss that bass!
@@LowEndLobster I once had an all original 1966 Fender P, was stolen, was insured, insurance paid, would much rather have the bass back. Replaced it with a Fender 57 P reissue. Sounds pretty close to the 66 P.
Fender-made in Japan signature series instruments command anywhere from $1200 - $1500 on the used market. Also, many of the high-end MIM instruments are holding their value above the $600 price mark. Yes, the Sire is a better bass out of the box but they won't carry any resale muscle on the used market.
I had a MIJ version for years but the neck moved every single time it rained it seemed. With the truss rod adjustment placement it was nightmare to adjust all the time. I do miss it though and seriously considering the US version but they are quite expensive.
Had my MIJ Geddy Lee Jazz bass since 2005, its been a great bass. Shame to see Fender move it to a MIM model, which sure seems to sound different than my MIJ version. I do find my MIJ a bit noisy as well. Would have been nice for Fender to address the truss rod adjustment and give a push pull for series/parallel. I changed my tone pot to a push pull and its nice to have the series mode available, even if I don't use it all that much.
Thanks Matthew! Glad you found this helpful. I was amazed that the Sire shares almost all the same specs as the Geddy. I thought it'd be close, but it's basically dead on minus the color
Yea my MIM jazz has that round hole under the pick guard as well.. 11lbs!?!? Wow!! For a 4 string passive bass. Geez!! Music man has the best truss rod adjustment ever!
The MIM version just does not have a chance against a CIJ/MIJ one, had a MIM a couple of months ago and i just had to move it simply because it lacked on built/pickup quality etc. Currently have two CIJ with fender’s custom 60’s pups and they are just killing machines
Hi, friendly lobster! Once I owned the japanese one, that one was awesome! But...this one....meh! (-_-)' It's always great to watch your videos and seeing how you channel grows! Cheers, Joe
I have both. The MIJ is better, I keep the other one as a backup. That neck is really, really fast. It’s nickname is “Spaghetti Lee”. That was Dave’s World of Fun Things nickname. Cracked me up. Fender needs to up its game.
Absolutely! I'll probably do a separate video on that. First I'll compare as is to the MIA and MIJ models (got someone willing to let me borrow an example of each for a video!).
Even if someone was particular about getting a fender jazz as opposed to a sire, these mexican geddy lees are basically the same as the $800 player series basses, which you can often find on sale for less than that, down to $650 ive seen. So youre basically paying like $400 more for that fake geddy lee signature on the back of the head. Now i will say that this neck with the black lining and black block inlays is super cool. Those necks are about $500, so someone might want it partly based on how cool the neck looks, and the player series necks arent nearly as cool.
I think there were some real concerns about twisting or bending necks on these? May pick up a US version. I really like the Player Series, but some other made in mexico basses from fender seem a little over priced. 11 pounds is hefty. Is it ash? That seems way out there for alder.
Thanks Mark! Indeed, there were definitely some cases though I don't think we have any real data as to the severity of the neck twist issue (and I doubt Fender would ever share that info lol). Specs say alder, my back says it's lead ;P
I have a Japanese one, it's a nice bass, not crazy about the trust rod setup(have to remove the neck to adjust), the pickups are a little to loud they distort a little too easily.
I have owned an early 2000's Japan made and it was a great instrument. The neck was thiner and faster than most Jazzbasses. I loved everything about it.

The fact that this bass used to be made in Japan and priced at $800 says a lot about the current economy.

I should have bought it but other priorities, bass purchase-wise, meant it didn't come home with me. Another great video....more please!
Thanks Brooksy! :)
The jackson ric bass was Indonesian made too, and I love it. Seems like quality product coming from there last few years, seems to be very reminiscent in quality to Korean made
I have one from Japan and love it! I put a set of EMG Jazz pickups and a BTC control. Nothing like it! Sounds and plays incredible!
Mine has the Limited Edition neck plate.
Thanks Gary! Yours sounds killer! We'll be doing an EMG Jazz very soon :)
Cool I’ve been wondering about these
Thanks Mike!
Damn I've been looking at these for a while at my local guitar store. Surprised this blew up so soon!
Thanks Akmal!
Nailed the 2 claws ! I try to guess the lobster rating before the end of the videos
Woooo! Thank you my friend! I always appreciate your comments :)
I also have a G&L (Fullerton) Jazz Bass that's an absolute brut!...I think you would dig it!
Thanks Keefer!
Thanks Chazz! Those basses sound killer!
Excellent review Lobster 👍🦞🦞
Thanks Paul!
I took your advice, just bought the new sire v5 rosewood fingerboard bass from Thomann’s. Love it to death, great bass and it’s a steal right now with the dollar so strong vs the euro.
Congrats!
I would love to see your take on the new Fender American pro ii jazz bass.
Good suggestion! American performer series would be my suggestion!
Thanks Nick! Great suggestion. I have a P review coming from the Am Pro II series sometime in August :)
@@LowEndLobster very nice 👌🏻
I had the MIJ version somewhere around 15 years ago. Should have kept it but really wasn't thrilled with it at the time. Ain't hindsight grand? Thanks Lobster!🦞
I know the feels, man... I know the feels
Great insight into Pros & Cons. Thnx again LEL
Thank you Glenn :)
There’s this bass I have an eye on: The Fender 60th Anniversary Jazz Bass with the Stacked Knobs, would be cool if you would review one!
Thanks Mats! Those are neat! I hope to review one at some point :)
Thanks for the honest review as always. Every time I hear you play bridge pickup on a jazz style I keep waiting for Jaco's The Chicken, lol.
Thanks Bevin! That was my favorite song to play in high school jazz band!
Thanks Guy!
I've heard it was around 2012 this model went to MIM
Never really been a Rush fan or Getty Lee but Sire is killing the bass game all the way around no way I would pay money like anymore for any Fender to be honest not when you can get better for less, Lobster thanks for keeping it 💯
Thanks Sid!
Is the juice worth the squeeze? No. But an American Geddy is!!!!
TRUTH!!!
Excellent Heat reference.
XD Thanks Sono! Hoping to check out MIA and MIJ Geddys in the future :)
Thanks Joe!
I had 2 of those basses. Japan models.. I Couldn't get used to the neck. I always ended up with hand cramps. I have an American version now. Total satisfaction. Sound, feel , and craftsmanship are just so much better.
Thanks Rich! Your MIA sounds killer! Hoping to try one soon :)
Thanks Chris! Yeah man, the prices are nuts. I'm glad Sire is offering a bass with comparable specs for less.
Thanks Fidel! We'll hopefully be checking out MIA and MIJ examples in the near future :)
@@LowEndLobster if only you could get one of those custom shops from the clockwork angels era!!
I just bought a CIJ off reverb, so glad I went with that one.
Completely agree with you on MIJ vs. MIM quality, Lobster. Almost every MIJ instrument has amazing craftsmanship. I'm not into Jazz Basses but if I were to choose one I'd go for the Geddy Lee, for sure. Great video!
Thanks Nano!
Love my 98 cij. Very cool bass. Neck is slim and has been solid
Another excellent honest and informative review! Thanks.
Thanks Russell!
Wow!😳
That's a shame!🤦
5 months wait!!😳& it was flawed?😠
No Excuse!👎🏿
Not good when Squire is better quality.
Thanks Lew!
The QC really is all over the place. Thanks Richard!
Isn't the idea of QC to literally control the quality? WTF! They have one effing job to do 🤔
I have a a MIJ from 2007/2008. It's a very good bass but I'm planning to sell it as I now play exclusively metal.
Can't believe the price difference between the MIJ and this MIM, especially for such a lower build quality.
Thanks Pier! Right!? It's nuts
Schecter just dumped on the last round of Apocalypse models, but that's not this - point being, there are a LOT of options and it's been beyond a race to the bottom for a while now, so ELEVEN HUNDRED BUCKS AND IT BUZZES
you had me at 1100 bucks - i just picked up an early Samick Valley Arts Custom Pro 5 string (make no mistake, the "custom pro" part is part of the model name) that is fooooooking adorbs for 299.99 at the local pawrn shop.
Thanks man! Already talking to Kyle via email, trying to line something up but we're both busy AF. Hopefully post NAMM!
@@LowEndLobster Next year you'll be at NAMM, doing what though...I have no idea lol
but you'll sort of have to go as a YT'er...some of the coolest signature models coming out are from people that were never in a band andor on the radio
@@LowEndLobster Also, it occurs to me that Trev Wilkinson is still alive. Again, every demo I've seen of any of the Vintage Icon series has been pretty sweet and uneventful.
That shirt made me instantly sub 🖤💜
Welcome :)
Thanks K!
Someone mentioned that the MIM Geddy Lee basses have identical pickups, like both are neck pickups. I just checked mine and my neck is south and my bridge is north.
Inflation sucks! Great video. How about a USA Geddy vid MIM Geddy?
Thanks Roadbull! Hoping to check out the MIA and MIJ models in the near future :)
Great review and Honest! I think I would buy a standard American version - probably used though, but a better option.
Indeed! Thanks Dave
Was gonna get the MIM version but now I might go for the USA version. It's almost twice the price, but if it means better quality and a better instrument overall it's worth it. Wish they continued making the MIJ version at a lower cost.
Thanks Vincent! Agreed! Totally wish the MIJs were still being made.
You can still find MIJ, but I’ve only seen them for around $1100.
Great honest review. I hate to say Fender is the guitar version of Harley Davidson. Charge a lot for the same old thing.
Thanks Meyers!
Could you do a review on the Ibanez SR306? I'm curious how they are for being in the $400~ range and I'm thinking about getting one. There aren't many reviews on them.
Thanks Mitchell! I probably won't do the 306 as I already looked at the 300, but I'll do my best to look at another budget Ibanez 6'er :)
Thanks Michael! Great comment. Now I'm wondering how the Brantley rewinds will sound in a Sire ;P
I'm sure it will sound good
The truth doesn't hurt. I bought a Sire V5 and It replaced my MIM J Bass. Fender needs to cut back on so many models and focus on quality! Thanks for being honest...
Thanks John!
I considered buying a Geddy Lee Signature, but I converted my Green 1997 USA Fender Jazz instead. Bass went from seldom played to often played.
Lovely sound, lovely bass. the Rickenbacker 4003s behind you is even nicer though.
Thank you! That Ric is finicky but when it's on, it's ON!
@@LowEndLobster I've got a jetglo arriving next week, stealth version, can't wait. The only let down with Rick's are the price.
Congrats!
Hey it sounds really good though
Fender-made in Japan signature series instruments command anywhere from $1200 - $1500 on the used market. Also, many of the high-end MIM instruments are holding their value above the $600 price mark. Yes, the Sire is a better bass out of the box but they won't carry any resale muscle on the used market.
Great review! While on the topic of Fender MIM signature basses, any plans to review Steve Harris and Nate Mendel P-basses?
Thanks Danny! Yes, I definitely hope on checking out the Harris and Fanklin P's at least :)
Agree with you the cheeper 1 the brown chic looks and sound much better 🙂👍
Thanks Ram!
Thanks for answering some of the questions I had. The Sire is a better deal.
Thanks Jeremy! Agreed! Truss wheel should be standard everywhere!
@@LowEndLobster I know!! Can’t wait for your darkray vid!! Can u make a video on you doing the mod if it’s not to late to ask?
Hi! Love your videos!!! Can you do a video on the USA Model soon!?!?
Thanks Bassmasta! Yes, hopefully within the next few months we'll be able to look at MIJ and MIA
The MIM version just does not have a chance against a CIJ/MIJ one, had a MIM a couple of months ago and i just had to move it simply because it lacked on built/pickup quality etc.
Currently have two CIJ with fender’s custom 60’s pups and they are just killing machines
Thanks Pescas! Hoping to check out the MIA and MIJ models in the future :)
LowEndLobster if you were from the same country would borrow mine to you in a heartbeat
Keep up the good work and that amazing content of yours
The best thing about this bass is the TV logo :)
Thanks Bart! Yeah I dig the old school logo on these :)
Hi, friendly lobster!
Once I owned the japanese one, that one was awesome!
But...this one....meh! (-_-)'
It's always great to watch your videos and seeing how you channel grows!
Cheers,
Joe
Thank you Joe!
Check out the schecter stiletto extreme 4 bass.
Thanks Green Island! I definitely plan on checking out more Schecters in the future
I have both. The MIJ is better, I keep the other one as a backup. That neck is really, really fast. It’s nickname is “Spaghetti Lee”.
That was Dave’s World of Fun Things nickname. Cracked me up. Fender needs to up its game.
Do you think you could do some shielding/grounding and get this sounding quieter?
Absolutely! I'll probably do a separate video on that. First I'll compare as is to the MIA and MIJ models (got someone willing to let me borrow an example of each for a video!).
I have a 2013 mim imported from USA to Uk sunburst had a few issues
Has the the Badd ass bridge 🎸
Thanks Paul! What issues did you have?
The neck pickup failed poor windings now fiitted tom Bradley.p ups
Even if someone was particular about getting a fender jazz as opposed to a sire, these mexican geddy lees are basically the same as the $800 player series basses, which you can often find on sale for less than that, down to $650 ive seen. So youre basically paying like $400 more for that fake geddy lee signature on the back of the head.
Now i will say that this neck with the black lining and black block inlays is super cool. Those necks are about $500, so someone might want it partly based on how cool the neck looks, and the player series necks arent nearly as cool.
I'm not one to stand up for Fender, but I have a MIM one that is a 2019 and have has ZERO issues with QC or playability. But $1k for a MIM bass....
Mine has the truss Rod at bottom of the neck, major pain in the Rock Lobster
Best Regards over there
I wish I could get a Ric for 1300 dollars. Can't find one under 2k on the used market nowadays
What bass did you make your intro on? I love that tone
Thanks! It's my Reverend Fellowship
@@LowEndLobster Ah. That's such a sweet bass. Also, it would be fun for you to review the Thunderbird Non-Reverse.
You can get a Mexi Geddy or twin Marcus, one Fretless and one fretted. What’s the better proposition? 🤓🤓🤓
Marcus all the way!
