GAME MAKER: STUDIO 3D - RESIDENTIAL MAP TEST

  • This is pretty similar to the previous video on this map, but I'm very happy how this turned out. The map itself has been ~ 70 hours of work, most of which in the creation & modeling of specific models & textures. The goal of this project has really only been to see how closely I could replicate my real life neighborhood. It's unlikely that I will turn this into any sort of game, but I may change my mind. Regardless, I think it turned out well!

    At first glance I thought this was made with Unity 3D, but are you serious? Game Maker: Studio? That's beyond amazing.

      I think this just goes to show the power that GM:S is capable of, especially with the right skill set. It's just a shame how much more difficult it is to create something of equal results with Unity in GM:S.

      Game Maker is actually an extremely powerful engine but get's a bad rap because of the simplified programming language and how much asset flip crap get's made with either pirated copies or the free versions of the pre-studio versions

    Honestly thought thumbnail was a picture of a real house. Nice! I couldn't even get a 3D model to load correctly. Wondering, how does one do 3D animations, like skeletons and such? Making a 3D Space/Sci-Fi/Horror with my dad, and we couldn't figure anything out.

    • @machimanta
      @machimanta  9 лет назад

      Using GM (what the engine in the video is using), skeletal animations/animations and general aren't natively supported unfortunately. There are work-around's and tricks you can do to implement animations, but nothing ideal. If you really want to get right into decently looking 3D fast, I'd probably recommend something like Unity, as it supports pretty much all aspects of 3D you'd really need.

    • @adiadic4722
      @adiadic4722 6 лет назад

      You too clearly don't know anything about coding. It's not the quantity of the codes. I am not an expert on 3D but I'll explain since I know GM for almost 2 years now:
      1. 3D models: Use an EXTERNAL 3D editor and just export that and import to GM. I think the model movement is the difficult part.
      2. Everything else with 3D (shadows, lighting etc.) is done by code but since it's just repeating for every model it's written juat once - in a script.
      This is my opinion and my belief so no hate.

    Question: Which would be simpler to do when developing a small 3D game in the nature of Pokemon X & Y, GameMaker Studio or Unreal Engine 4? I mean, UE4 is powerful and all, but it's not really an FPS or a Physics-heavy game that we're talking about here, just a turn-based RPG with 3D meshes instead of sprites. Would the hassle of getting Gamemaker to 3D be much more demanding than getting up to speed of what UE4 demands, which includes proficiency in C++?

    • @MrBountyhunter4
      @MrBountyhunter4 8 лет назад

      +Rune Knytling I have worked with game maker for a long time i would recommend ue4, the skills you will learn can be used in more platforms later on and with better resource management.

    wow, I'm pretty amazed by the graphics you have achieved. However, I think that it might be a better idea to use an engine more fitting to your skill. I recommend the unity3d engine simply because it's easy to use and for me it was the next step up. Plus you get the and/or better graphics for little to no effort. BTW dynamic shadows come included :3

    • @dovahheavy1526
      @dovahheavy1526 10 лет назад

      improfision plz tell me your joking right? I'm not hating I'm just saying that if you spent that much time in an engine why not use that talent on a better/ more powerful one. Seriously though I didn't just mean unity3d, I also meant other engines like UDK or Cry engine. BTW don't tell me that you could recreate "The Forest" in Gamemaker :3.

    • @machimanta
      @machimanta  9 лет назад

      LinkMasterM7 I use the pro version. The main difference is just the extent of extra features and functions you can utilize. Like, with the lite edition, you can't do any 3D. Then there are things like extended draw calls, etc., (which are very useful) which you also can not use. And, I'm not sure if it's still this way or not, but I'm pretty sure the lite edition had the GM/YYG logo plastered onto your game.. which I'm not sure if you'd want. If you are seriously considering using GM, I would recommend buying one of the advanced packages. They go on sales quite often, also.
