Have you always wanted to own or in the market to purchase a historic home? Here in Charleston, we have quite a few, especially downtown. But before you dive into historic homeownership, there are a few things you need to know. There are some great benefits to owning historic properties, but there are also some expensive negatives...apart from just the cost to purchase them! Don't get caught off guard!

Have you owned a historic home? What were some of your pros and cons?

Grew up in one built in 1863. Pro’s: it was beautiful, large, great details like cherry cabinets and 12’ pocket doors. Cons: unending maintenance. Few modern conveniences like air conditioning are available. It was also in a depressed neighborhood that had not been improved yet when we bought it.
