Another great example is the in-game soundtrack of "Attack of the Petscii Robots (C64)" by Noelle Aman. Although it's multiplexed over two channels instead of one like here, it still sounds great.
Yeah he did a bunch of the mid 2000s ones like Discover, Diazinon, Everlasting, Glume and Nuance. Discover in particular is also neat because it simulates reverb by using a steel drum as echo for the bass. He also designed the 2004-05 soundbanks too.
It's a technological challenge and impressive from a technical standpoint, it isn't supposed to sound like a goddamn vinyl record. What makes you think that the shit you listen to is somehow "better" than this, anyway?
i’m always amazed at how realistic c64 drums can sound, that filter was an incredible addition
filters can go a long way :p
a perfect example of rapid channel switching (RCS) used in many 8-bit games

if this is what they can do with one channel, imagine what they could do with 3 channels
This is a good description of Tim Follin's career
essentially beatboxing
yea. beat boxing only uses 1 channel for full music (your face) and this also only uses 1 channel for full music
@@Sussyslvt no way 🤯🤯🤯 that's basically what the original comment said 😱😮
@@secretcommenter5720 nobody loves you
Beatboxing at 50hz.
Every "Aleksi" I've seen has a lot of talent
This really is a single channel. Wow.
Indeed impressive
ב''ה, once things hit 586 speeds you could play MP3s out a PC speaker.

Aleksi Eeben is a true master! Incredible what he can do with just 1 channel. He was at Nokia and many ringtones are from his work

Fun fact: He is still an active demoscener!
to give you a better understanding of this, imagine a machine beatboxing.
damnn the one channel echo :7 sick
this is like a computer nerd's version of beatboxers making full songs on their own.. cool!
I gotta say, allowing every Channel to change and use a different waveform or to play samples is actually really cool.
I have always found sounds like these soothing.
Wirklich einfach Klever gemacht!
AMAZING!

The SID is the best sound chip ever designed
For its time, yes.
Clever.
Badass.
Alternate title: C64 beatboxing
Das klingt ziemlich cool, ich lass dir mal'n Abo da :)
Danke!
sehr cool

i like this osci view
this would be pretty good for a games ost, leaves room for sfx and stuff
Yeah, nes games would do things like this for that exact reason
@@freezeboy13 really? didnt expect it to actually be done lol
do u know which game(s)?
@@ruskah0307 Ganbare Goemon for the Famicom uses 4 of the 2A03’s built in APU, and the fifth channel (DMC) uses DPCM for enemy sound effects.

cool!
So, the guy who made some Nokia sound banks (and ringtones IIRC), composed C64 tunes?
Yep! He even made his own C64 sound routine and is still active in the demoscene to this day
tight
listen to it at 0.5 speed
I whish he composed music for the ibm pc speaker thankfully there are composers who are almost or just as good in terms of arpeggios
Apparently he composed for some Nokia games with one channel beep, though I don't know which
funky
Makes me think of Salmonella Dub a little bit
Virtual beatbox >:)
What does 'one channel' mean?
The entire song is multiplexed on one of the SID's three channels. Basically all you see here is what's actually played.
it was hard but possible

You are using the word "music" in a manner that tells me you are tone deaf.
No this is music, whether you like it or not.
@@MauveDash I didn't say it wasn't music. I also didn't say it was good music. And I won't.
Well, it's not me who named this, but as @MauveDash said, this is music. It is just multiplexing on one singular channel.
It's a technological challenge and impressive from a technical standpoint, it isn't supposed to sound like a goddamn vinyl record. What makes you think that the shit you listen to is somehow "better" than this, anyway?
This song isn't out of tune either so you can't even get your terminology right. If you're gonna hate at least TRY to not sound misinformed
