Hi everyone! Here's some additional tips for the Sony Shooting Grip: 1. Use Sony recommended or high quality CR2032 battery. I've used cheap ones and their quality is inconsistent. Sometimes I only get about 1-2 hours using them. With original or high quality ones, they have lasted 4-6 months. 2. The smartphone holders I used in this video are the Ulanzi ST-01 Phone Tripod Mount and Small Rig Multifunctional Smartphone Holder. Ulanzi's mount offers a low profile, is very durable and affordable. Small Rig's mount is taller (more height for sit down vlogs) and can rotate between horizontal and vertical shots. However it's not sturdy and the bracket holding the mount bends easily when its not supposed too. Also it's expensive for what it offers and is more hype than function. Small Rigs makes excellent camera cages but their accessories tend to be overpriced and of low quality. 3. To keep it clean, I use dish soap diluted in water or rubbing alcohol diluted in water (60/40). They haven't faded the finish on the shooting grip and will get rid of most germs and viruses.
i just got this shooting grip, and realized that the Zoom (up and down) rocker buttons are pretty soft and sensitive compared to other buttons. Do you feel that on your unit as well?
Yup, the zoom rocker and shutter button are spongy! Even the shutter button on my Sony Xperia PRO-I feel similar. They have a different feel than what is typically found on Sony's camera bodies. It will take some time to adjust to them. I usually use the zoom rocker and shutter button on the camera body with using this grip. But when vlogging I use the rocker and shutter button on the grip.
I was wondering if anyone could advise me on whether the Sony GP-VPT2BT is compatible with bulb mode. Basically, I want to know if I can start and end the shutter opening using the remote. My camera is A7 IV. Thanks!
I checked Sony's website on how to use bulb mode in manual exposure for a Sony camera and they recommended using a tripod and a remote commander to minimize blurring. I'm assuming this shooting grip should work for that function since it's a remote commander in tripod form. Its shutter button is supposed to mimic the same actions done from the one on the camera body. I've only done long exposures with it and not bulb mode. I can try it out and see if it works but my camera in only a ZVE-10. Let me know!
@@thefitlifechannel2021 I think I need to rephase my query 😊 I'm thinking of using the Sony GP-VPT2BT as a handheld mini tripod or a wireless remote, instead of buying a separate remote commander. Will it work with the ZVE-10 bulb mode? I will mount the camera on a big tripod. I'd love to be able to start and stop the shutter opening using the Sony GP-VPT2BT instead of pressing the shutter on the camera. Thanks for your help!
@@chrisbale11 Yes it should work as a wireless shutter button instead of using the one on the camera body. The GP-VPT2BT is a remote commander molded into a tripod/shooting grip so it should work as a wireless shutter button with bulb mode from supported camera bodies according to Sony. I can test it later with the ZVE-10's bulb mode and get back to you to see if it worked.
@@chrisbale11 You're welcome! Great news! The shooting grip does activate the shutter wirelessly while the ZVE-10 is in bulb mode. Just press the PHOTO button on the grip once to open the shutter, and one more time to close it after the desired amount of exposure time. I hope this helped answer your question!
I was thinking of getting one of these for my Sony RX100 VII. I use it at gigs for videos of bands....any idea if you can press the shutter button whilst it's recording videos?...I know the camera does this, but wondered if the hand grip perhaps disabled the shutter button
Yes this is a solid grip for your camera! Better than the previous version that was smaller and used a cable to connect. It's also very durable and can take some rough handling. When using photo mode in auto, you can record video, and take pics from the camera's shutter button and from the grip. But in video mode, it doesn't allow photos to be captured from the grip or camera. I hope this answered your question!
hello I watched your video and ordered this tripod, but I can only mount a camera and I think I need a part to use with the phone but I can't find it anywhere can you help me?
Thank you for your view! You can order a universal smartphone mount for handheld/standing tripods from companies such as Small Rig, Manfroto, Ulanzi, Andoer, K&F Concept or any other ones that specialize in camera tripods and/or smartphone accessories. They will all work with the Sony grip. The one I'm using in the video is from Ulanzi. Let me know if you have any other questions!
@ I just ordered it! Thank you :) I have one more question, I spent a lot of money lately and do you have any recommendations for a cheap stabilizer gimbal?
@@refiktutar You're very welcome! I only have experience with DJI gimbals and have found them to offer a lot for their price range. They're easy to setup and use as well. You can look at the DJI Ronin SC or RS series for your ZV1. I don't recommend going with a cheap gimbal because you may have issues balancing your camera and keeping it that way. It's better to find a used quality one or save money for it. You can also use Sony's Catalyst Browse, a free editing and post stabilizing program for PC. It works with your ZV1. You would record your footage without stabilization turned on the ZV1. Then upload your video file to Catalyst Browse and do auto or manual stabilization. It will smoothen your shaky footage close to or same as a gimbal. However, there is a crop. But you can compensate by recording further away from your scene or subject ( you can do test recording and Catalyst Browse stabilizing to figure out how far). I know it's an extra step in editing but you'll be surprised at how smooth it ends up especially when you use the Sony Wireless Commander Shooting Grip . You can use this method until you saved enough money to get a quality gimbal. I hope this answered your question! Let me know if I can help you with anything else!
@@thefitlifechannel2021 You are an incredible person! This is the first time I've seen someone give such detailed and helpful answers... I've been looking for a while now on how to make the best videos and thanks to you I learned something I've never heard before! I'm so grateful I'll implement everything you said... :) I'm thinking of making cinematic videos that feel like a movie I hope I can be successful!
I like this product because it can be used as a remote for my top down camera set up for art instruction. I need to zoom in and out but cannot stand up to adjust my physical camera and need my hands relatively free. This seems to be my solution..... Thank you for your video.
You're very welcome! I found it very useful for zooming onto myself or something I was discussing when doing solo vlogs. Please let me know if you have any questions later when you have received it.
