The transmission on this car always ran well. Crisp, precise shifts as you'd expect on a BMW. My problems were more around air intake leaks that throw the air fuel ratio mix off. Once you get all the issues squared away, this car is a lot of fun to drive. Thanks for the question.

Keep making them and hopefully whatever German part breaks or fails next, you got a video to replace it!
Hey thanks for the video, quick question in the beginning of the video you drove the car up on something, can you please tell me where to get it from??
Hi Thank you for this great video. I drive BMW x3 07 European model with a GM 6L45 automatic transmission. At at 116000Km the yellow transmission malfunction light came on the then went off upon switching the engine then reappeared after driving the car 200km. So decided to charge the transmission with 4.7l of dexron iii automatic transmission oil with the help of your video. After changing the oil when the oil had warmed up the warning light popped up so I decided to scan the vehicle then the went off after clearing the faults upon warming up the engine it came on when checked on the scanner it read that the transmission position sensor was faulty I have looked for this under but I can't locate it. Would advise me on how to go about it? Thank you for your support.
I had to do the crank angle sensor once at around 90k miles. It's a common issue, but I had a shop replace it so I can't provide any feedback to your question. I believe you have to come from the bottom to access it, good luck and let us know how it goes.
Chris on another thought don't you think if it the crankshaft position sensor it would have thrown a check engine light on the instruments cluster? Instead it I got a yellow cog on the dashboard Because I scanned it with a Bosch scan tool.
@@willshamanena5596 I'm not sure how the car will complain when the part is failing, you will probably get the 4x4 light also. If the problem is worse when the RPMs are higher, that would suggest the crank angle sensor is failing. Hope it works out
Chris, would u recommend doing just a drain and fill without dropping the pan, then drive for 200 miles, then do a complete service and drop pan? That way u get out more of the old fluid?
What you're suggesting is more of a transmission flush rather than fluid & filter change. You will get more old fluid out with this approach but read more about transmission flushes and I bet you'll decide against it. Sometimes a flush will actually make your transmission start slipping depending on the condition of the transmission clutches. To summarize, I'm a fan of the fluid & filter change rather than a full flush, good luck and let us know how it goes!
@@cthompson0531 I believe a 'flush' is pumping fresh fluid through under pressure to force all the old fluid out. Doing it the way Christopher L mentions above should not be problematic. - Hope this helps.

Chris Thompson Thanks for the reply. I saw a diagram of mine and looks like it’s in the rear of the Tranny away from the bell housing opposite the drain. I was looking on the sides where the cooling lines come in. Did your X3 have the Tow Package?
hi chris i have a bmw f25 2.0 diesel 8 speed automatic and i experienced a trasmition fault once but after restart no issue. the mechanic suggested oil change also the filter the car has 219 000 km whats do you suggest thank you in advance
That’s correct. When the engine is running, the torque converter is spinning. The fluid stays in because of the centripetal force. If the engine isn’t running, the fluid level is higher and it comes out if you remove the fill screw. Now the fluid level is lower, be sure to top it off when it’s running again. Good luck. 👍
Hi, I came across your video because I have a small dilemma with the difference on where the power steering oil and automatic transmission fluid goes.
