it is an exemption to the rule but it doesn't disprove the rule as theirs is so far the only one that is hereditary

Both Glynda Goodwitch & Carmine Esclados both have telekinetic semblances.

Rexstocephir XIII The difference between Semblances and Magic in this show is horribly defined. Example of magic includes Qrow and Raven turning into birds but Ruby can turn into a swarm of ROSE PETALS. And Maiden Powers are elemental which is no different than Semblances that use elemental powers to a degree like Weiss. There really is no difference between Semblances and Magic from how the show defines it.
@@ryancarson6962 the elements in RWBY come from dust, not Semblances. In the example of Weiss, or Blake, her semblance only does one to two things. However, if they add an elemental dust to it then the nature of their semblance changes. Blake's clones become bombs or ice statues, Weiss is able to shoot ice Spears or use the black glifs to manipulate gravity. And using the maiden powers really isn't the best example because their only a fraction of magic.
@@Wesley76515 I mean, I'd like to point out that whenever we saw Qrow turning into a bird, everyone assumed that was part of his semblance - the surprising thing about his "I can use magic to become a bird" reveal, was that his semblance was actually bad luck and not becoming a bird.
Because what's the actual difference? Both can't be explained by their version of scientific laws. Both are capable of impossible things (Qrow literally manipulates space-time based on his subjective view of the abstract concept that is bad luck entirely without conscious input. Raven creates worm holes to the location of other life forms independent tk her own based on whether she has formed a strong emotional connection with them. Glynda uses the force. The only one that can really have any kind of real world explanation is Nora, because that's just absorbing and reapplying energy, like when we eat food). We've yet to discover if you need aura to use a semblance, so magic isn't unique in source. I would say you can pass on magic, but that would be assuming there isn't a semblance that can pass itself on, and since a semblance can be anything then that's an unreasonable assumption.
As of yet, they're the same thing but magic has more variety. If all the maidens can do is open special doors and use the elements, we may as well say they have two semblances rather than one.
@@seandabest4329 yes, you need aura to use a semblance. A semblance is a projection of ones aura, no aura = no semblance. You can still use magic without aura, we see Raven use magic without her aura and I think we see Amber(in volume 3) and Cinder(in volume 5, I think) do the same.

@@Riann_Reaper17 make a shield? Since in the early volumes a semblance was supposed to represent someone's personality, it would make sense since he wants to protect humanity. This would explain why Oscar has a similar one - either due to the whole 2 souls 1 body, or because Ozpin jumps into the body of those with a mind set similar to his (or his original, anyway)
I am convinced that they're rereleasing these purely to have an excuse to put Salem in cool poses on the thumbnail.

@@blackvial The only "similar" semblances are Misfortune and Good Fortune. Glyphs are the exact same semblance, the only difference being that Winter has more mastery over her aura. And both Glynda and Carmine have the exact same Telekinesis, the only difference is, again, Glynda is more skilled in using it. So both Glyphs and both Telekinesis are not unique. The Schnees have passed down Glyphs on next generations and that's canon, but Carmine was never explained.
@@blackvial Carmine's and Glynda's have the exact same description, the only difference is that "carmines semblance is not as strongs as glynda" but that doesn't mean much since that just means she needs more training with her semblance
Also the schnee semblance is not "similar" is the same in all the cases

Also, as far as I'm concerned, After the Fall isn't considered canonical to the R.W.B.Y continuity.
@@angelmendez-rivera351 If After the Fall isn't canon, then I can understand why Carmine has Telekinesis. And, yes, I do know the meaning of "exception" and it has been stated that Glyphs isn't the only semblance that can be passed onto the next generation.
Cool as the thumbnails are, if you were trying to get into the show for the first time by watching it in release order, you'd be seeing these during volume 2, before Salem was fully revealed.
This is very important and something I think they may not have thought about. I love these things but when they were released were the best times to release them. It was always relevant to something that happened/was currently happening in the show. Now, one would have to wait until they're all caught up to go back and watch these simply because it's too much of a hassle to watch them way out of order in the middle of the later seasons.

@@proganerxdave6720 That wouldn't make sense though, since it's a fusion not a conversion. Each of Ozpin's incarnations would have their own unique semblance, we just never find out what any of them are

Well according to Wiki she's not dead and their no sign if her death since her last appearance in Volume 3, so you might see her again in Volume 9 or something, more than likely not Volume 8.
@@SMmania123 Ye, other characters have confirmed she's still alive. In volume 4, Yang is watching a news report with her in it and later Oobleck and Port make a comment on how busy she's been with the reconstruction of the city.

Don't count on it. It was put on ice so that they could focus on volume 7, and now they're working hard on volume 8. 3 new RWBY projects were announced a few weeks ago. There haven't been any news on Chibi for a very long time.
eventually they will, they just don't want to over exert themselves and compromise RWBY's quality with like what happened in Volume 5.

Ozpin a semblance is to drink a infinite amount of tea
Qrow and Clover: their Semblance are total opposite. What if there's an equal and opposite Semblance for each character? Instead of absorb electricity its discharged, instead of masking negative emotions they are heightened, etc. I wanna know more about the Schnee family's Semblance being heritage and not random like others.
Nora can discharge the electricity she absorbs, she just does it directly into her muscles

I just want to see Salem single handedly annihilate Atlas, I don't want to see Salem just controling the Grimm, I want to see her go full rage super satan magic mode and destroy the whole of the Altas fleet by herself. I'm thinking Salem creates a giant wormhole and destroys the whole fleet right off the bat, that would be epic. They need to established Salem is the big bad, they've been hyping her up for seven volumes, team rwby don't deserve a victory next volume.
Hrrrm the fight isn't quite personal enough for that and would lend the false impression that I regard Atlas as a threat and not a meal for my children.

It could be the aura being passive part when we see in volume 5 that Oscar forgot to activate his during training with Ruby.
I take it as aura doesn't start out as passive until you've trained with it. That's probably why they have those combat schools that people go to before going to one of the big academies

I could be wrong but when ren fought the king taijitsu way back in volume 1 he used aura offensively and as well, he deflected the strike using his aura like a shield not a force field before using aura to propel the broken fang through the snake. we never see it get used like a shield in that way ever again.
It is much more of a confusion that caused this retcon topic,you see we see pyhraa activate Jaune's aura in V1 but dont see Jaune training about keeping the aura active like a second nature,when we are in V5 Ren says it takes intense consentration to keep it up but with more training it becomes second nature ,thats what caused the retcon,cant say I blame them since there was no evidence of people training in the usage of aura in previous volumes .At first we thought aura have to activated then you have it up all the time until it expired and needed recharge.Now we know you need to train to unlock it the train more to keep aura up and ready and then it becomes second nature.

Pretty sure everyone have known about this, but looking back at vol. 6, the term Semblance comes from the idea of a semblance of the original magic back during the Age of Gods.

@@buffstavofring2755 He was was doing well against her at first, but then she switched to Maiden powers. It seemed like it was magic against magic then. Cinder then won because she had more of it since Ozpin stated in Volume 5 that his powers are dwindling.

I find semblances fascinating because they only manifest during moments of stress or deep focus, when you are tapping into the deepest root of your power. It is almost like a form of Wish magic. Something so intimately tied to who you are. One who finds their semblance through stress and danger gets a way to escape that danger, where someone who trains and focuses on their semblance gets one that simply fits their nature.
it's sounds like aura so useful everyone should have it unlocked

What I don't understand is why everyone in the planet doesn't try to get their Aura unlocked. Besides getting cool superpowers, it seems like a necessity when the planet is covered in killer monsters. Jaune made it seem like was pretty easy to get, you just need another user and the right words.
Same reason not everyone knows how to fight or use weapons irl.

I've never seen these episodes so I'm really happy they're releasing them again. Cuz I was VERY confused watching all these seasons. They should've put this information in the actual episodes though. Kinda weird you have to learn about the world this show takes place in in separate, after thought episodes.
With the run time RWBY has there is only so much they can cover in the show
@@blackvial that should be a priority. You're making a show, informing your audience of what world, power, and abilities the characters have in said show should be a first priority thing. Not an afterthought.
As a viewer, I gave up on this show on the first watch through because I had NO idea what was going on. I've had to re-watch it now 3 times to get somewhat of a grip because basic things like aura, were never explained thoroughly in the show. That shouldn't happen.
