  • 5" gauge steam working model, LPG fired, of the Union Pacific Big Boy steam locomotive. For the full story of the model see my website www.ferroviefelettane.it at the page "In costruzione" (sorry, it's in Italian language!)

    This is something which every railfan must see atleast once in a lifetime. Hats off to your efforts. I would love to see your steam loco, given a chance.

    Lovely model. Even in 5" gauge, it is an impressive and very heavy machine. The prototype for this model still exists. #4005 is in the Forney Transport Museum in Denver. It is undercover now, but when my kids and I saw it in 1988, it was just out in the back lot.
    There was a miniature model railroad that took passengers, here in Britain. It was at 'Dobwalls', in Cornwall and my kids used to love it. One of the locos was a 7.5" gauge Big Boy called the 'William Jeffers' (I can't remember the number) but the owner, John Southern, had wanted to buy #4005, ship it to Britain and restore it! He would have had to build the railroad for it too, because it is way, way to big to fit on our railways. That model railroad isn't there any more and the William Jeffers was shipped to Australia where it has literally disappeared.
    Props to the guy who built the model above. It isn't quite scale, I would say, because it looks like it has been built to 'work' and pull big loads. I can applaud that.

    the estimated weight is 320 kg (without the 30 l of water in the boiler) for the loco and 90 kg for the tender (empty, because it contains 50 l of water)

    What's that little extra driver at 0:45 that I see on every steam engine for?

  • @albertocelot
    @albertocelot  14 лет назад

    No, the regulator acts on both the sets (like the full scale)

    I suppose that you refer to the Power Reverse that is actuated just before 0:45

    @brohoop
    It runs fast because it runs on ball berings. See the other videos, when running on rail it runs slowly!!

    why are the rear cylinders running slower?

    • @albertocelot
      @albertocelot  10 лет назад

      Because they are not connected to the front cylinders and there is a rolling friction difference

    Why does every live steam driven locomotive have to run so unrealistically fast??!! What's the point of owning such a huge and beautiful model if you have to run it like a cheap toy??
