Test with live steam of my Westinghouse air compressor in 1:12 scale. When the compressed air reaches the pressure of 5 bar (75 psi) an automatic regulator shut off the steam, leaving a leak just to keep warm the pump. When the pressure falls below 3 bar, the pump restarts automatically. For further details see my website ferroviefelettane.it

    Lovely model. Even in 5" gauge, it is an impressive and very heavy machine. The prototype for this model still exists. #4005 is in the Forney Transport Museum in Denver. It is undercover now, but when my kids and I saw it in 1988, it was just out in the back lot. There was a miniature model railroad that took passengers, here in Britain. It was at 'Dobwalls', in Cornwall and my kids used to love it. One of the locos was a 7.5" gauge Big Boy called the 'William Jeffers' (I can't remember the number) but the owner, John Southern, had wanted to buy #4005, ship it to Britain and restore it! He would have had to build the railroad for it too, because it is way, way to big to fit on our railways. That model railroad isn't there any more and the William Jeffers was shipped to Australia where it has literally disappeared. Props to the guy who built the model above. It isn't quite scale, I would say, because it looks like it has been built to 'work' and pull big loads. I can applaud that.

    Stunning locomotive, did it have plans or was it all scaling down

  • @morg52

    Some years ago, I built one of these in 1/29th scale out of sheet styrene. For a model, I used a HO (1/87) scale crane. Using scale rules and gauges, I did a lot of what I call, "imagineering to get to as close to the real thing as I could. I used electric, battery powered motors and hobby gears to get the rpm reductions needed. I couldn't find Buckeye trucks for it though, so mine has a pair of three axle tender trucks.

    i was told this couldnt be done due to the length of the boiler but this is awesome

    • @hoppercar
      @hoppercar 9 лет назад

      what does the length of the boiler have anything to do with it?

    • @djscottdog1
      @djscottdog1 9 лет назад

      cos the fire box is only at one end and wouldn't heat the other end quick enough

    • @hoppercar
      @hoppercar 9 лет назад

      DJ Scottdog there is a definite relationship between square footage in the firebox and boiler flue area. it worked well in the full size bigboys, so scaleing it down does not change that ratio. ..only concern here is a good exhaust nozzle design to pull the draft thru the boiler.

    • @djscottdog1
      @djscottdog1 9 лет назад

      and getting coal to the front of the fire box though i am aware they run on oil but does the model ?

    • @hoppercar
      @hoppercar 9 лет назад

      DJ Scottdog im not sure what this particular model runs on? being how i never see smoke, i would assume oil, or propane fired?......but getting coal to the front of the firebox is not a big deal in a model.....make sure your firebox door is big enough, and have a shovel and a poker with long handles
