One of the best things personally about doing all these reaction vids is that I am forced to watch things I wouldn't normally take the time to see. It's been so rewarding.
I have to say. The fact the views are down on this and the previous Gergo vid make me kinda sad.
People are SERIOUSLY missing out!
This is what a world class musician looks/sounds like.
Hey Andrew, try this one: ruclips.net/video/r_GTgpdoCh0/видео.html
My suspicion is that you have a lot or metal drummer aficionados who don't really appreciate drummers out of that genre. It is unfortunate. As Larnell himself said in a previous video, we should listen to all sorts of music because we can learn new things by doing so. I'm an example. I seldom listen to metal but because of this channel I've learned to appreciate the power, stamina and virtuosity of some of these high level drummers. That said, Larnell rules!!!
This video definitely does deserve more views. I had never heard of this musician before but I watched it since you posted it!
And I ADORED it. This man is amazing... such masterful connection to the music
So there's maybe something to be happy about ^_^
Absolutely world class ❤
Thanks so much for sharing your insights. Many people don't realize/understand the world of musical percussionists. There is so much more than "drumming", out there. Exposure is the key. Thanks again.
Not often one says "beautiful" when it comes to drumming....Larnell makes me say that often. Perhaps my favourite video so far. Loved this.
It’s so good Phil! 🥁🤜
I just love Larnells playing! I also like Rooneys ability to pick and point out interesting things about these different players, their techniques or their gear. It's fascinating! 👍
What I say that to all drums lol. Beautiful larnell is just magnificent. He's a delicacy. Hes the ultimatum
Yes!!! Such a gorgeous solo. Larnel is easily one of the most well rounded drummers of all time.
Yes! 🥁😍
Jesus, that man flows like water then walks on it like he knows where every molecule will be.
Yup! 🙌
I keep coming back to this. Larnell is top 5 ever to me. Brilliant musician!
Man i can’t stop watching this. He’s amazing and the soul in him that’s projecting out you can just feel it. And you right when he paused and came back, he shook up the game with that one. Great video
What a marvelous, flowing river of grace that this man just created through drumming. Beautiful
Couldn't agree more!
In this and many songs, Larnell using space so effectively. Beautifully. Hes a true musical genius
Total musician. GENIUS
Hahah. 0:07
"Hey what's up Andrew its RUclips here!"
I can see that coffee mug is still full...
Thanks for the vid again man!
Yeah man! 😂
I didn't even notice!
I agree with you. Larnell is a pleasure to listen to. You can feel his musicality as he plays. Just great.
Yes Gary!
Like watching Matisse as he paints. Absolutely gorgeous drumming.
Nailed it! 🥁🙌
He's pretty much following the piano on every hit with the bass drum during the solo. Impressing.
" Hey what's up Andrew, is RUclips here .." haha
PS: Larnell the best drummer, what a style to play drums ffs!
As a drummer of 50 years I don't enjoy listening to a most solos, but I like this one with the vamping. Helps keep the drummer contained within an understandable context, which I found very listenable, especially liked that long pause. Haven't seen that before. Having said this it should come as no surprise that In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is my favorite solo.
I hear ya! 💯👌
Freaking all in 5/4 + 6/4 too and it flows so well one doesn't immediately notice
Flow is the word for Larnell. Music flows out of him Joshua
I love this drum solo. He's definitely an incredible drummer and musically delightful to listen to. I'm still awaiting the Tosin Abasi / Larnell Lewis / Jacob Collier jazz fusion album.
Also, your comments at 6:50 speak about negative space, not just in visual arts but in all sense perception. We interpret negative space not as being space that is void of content, but space that is void of expected content; which includes filling that space with similar colors or sounds. Instead of filling space with the expected, try filling the space with nothing. Nothing has a lot of substance in art.
Amazing Tyler!
John Cage made a career exploring this idea.
Thanks for educating me on the terms “vamp” and “ostinato” too. I’m not a big jazz lover, but I can listen to this on repeat because of Larnell’s playing and your insightful commentary.
YES!! That was magical.
Absolutely Kren!
I have a top shelf and then a small shelf above that one for Larnell 😎👏👏👏🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🥂
Yeah so amazing and lucky we are to have free vids like this... if it wasn't for some1 video taping/recording this we never would've been able to witness it ourselves. Love it
It is not easy to keep that music theme going and keeping it even when someone is 'pissing around' on drums. Another tasty pick! Very musical and artistic class act!
You got it! HAHA
Another Toronto drummer besides Neil Peart , this guy can do all styles ,and a great personality so humble of a person
Hooboy...if I'm not mistaken, he's soloing over the vamp in an 11/8. Or as a mixed meter which alternates 6/8 and 5/8? Soooo tastefully played and awesome, as always.
Yes Barbara! One of the best in the world right there!
WOW. Instantly made me smile. Thank you so much 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks James!!!
Substantive comments. Enjoyed.
Much appreciated!
I mean in Snarky puppy he came up with whole album, sans 2 tracks on one flight ✈️
It's absolutely insane. Next level
HOWDY FROM NEW ENGLAND...IM A SUB TO THE DRUMEO CHANNEL ANS HAVE SEEN HIM IN A NUMBER OF VIDS...DEF A TOP NOTCH PLAYER..PEACE
Great Brian! 🥁👌
Great pick!
YES!
Hey wats up Andrew its youtube here lol love it 😆 il be Andrew for a bit I guess haha
Yes Zack! HAHA
Thanks Andrew - and thanks to tonyrobinson.co.UK for transcribing This solo, really good job
Tasty!
Thanks Andrew
Thanks for watching Jake!
You can keep all the theatrics of the Turners and Siberianos of the world (not hating). I'll take Larnell every day of the week. He's operating at a Max Roach level of technique and musicality.
LL is a BEEEASSSTTTTT!!!
Yes Randy!
Vice-Admiral Holdo on the sax.
Oh right!?
Most percussionists are struggling with keeping a simple beat going. This guy manages to break up the rhythm for minutes without loosing the beat.
If you haven’t done unleash the archers Awakening full band play through you gotta! You won’t be disappointed
Thanks Hailey!
here's a cheeky one for you Andrew...kids got moves!! ruclips.net/video/U2ve1XuIa6M/видео.html
As for Larnell...WOW!! He always whips out some flare that feels new and fresh...an inspirational drummer always!!
6:25 :o
You corrected yourself on “drum solo,” but we still call guitar solos, solos when there is still a full band behind them.
The only guy I have seen on par with this is Herlin Riley. You have probably heard him. If not check out this, ruclips.net/video/KFvgCtomkqE/видео.html
Hey Derek! He was talked about in hushed tones when I was at music school. New Orleans vibe?
@@AndrewRooneyDrums I assumed you would know of him. I liked the tones he got from the drums and the way he bent the cymbals impressed me. Hope you react to the solo I sent you. Even the way he throttled the cowbell was unusual.
Have you checked out Dirty Loops yet? Work Shit Out
It’s on the way. A patron has picked it!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums that is great. This band is special.

That’s what SHE said, but that’s not what I wanna hear.
Oh dear...
Idk what's wrong with me...this dude just hasn't ever done it for me. He is clearly amazing but there is something about his choices that I don't feel. Maybe I'm an idiot...probably
To each their own 👌
