  • The Helsinki fire department responding out of the central fire station. I am not sure if they were all going to the same call since they are taking different ways. You can see Mercedes Sprinter ambulance H191, Scania Pumper H11, 5-axle Sisu Bronto Skylift F61 RPX aerial truck H16 and Scania rescue truck H15 //

    The alarm call is in finnish "ihmisen pelastaminen vedestä" or in english rescue somebody from water including units Helsinki P4, 11, 16 (ladder), 25 (divers from other station) and ambulance H292. So it can be that the unit H15 is going to the another alarm.

    The H16 is simply an Aerial Platform with a max. rescue height of 200 ft

  • @EnjoyFirefighting
    @EnjoyFirefighting 11 лет назад +1

    well it's a better height-weight-ratio; This one is 39 ft long and has a GVW of 72,000 pounds, with 5 axels they can still access roads and bridges which have a load restriction, and they also don't put so much pressure onto their outriggers

  • @MFRPhotographer
    @MFRPhotographer 11 лет назад +1

    Its just, the alarm in the beginning says H25, not H15 so its possible that the 15 took another response?
    Ofc its possible that p4(chief) changed the unit by the initial information.. It always takes a time when the guy puts up the diving gear before getting into truck, that explains why 15 left far behind than usually I have seen.

    In Poland, the rescuers were going different routes, if one is locked, then the second vehicle reaches and start the action. Of course, as the road is similar in length, usually in cities.

    Guys is Helsinki like Germany where their Firefighters are all Paramedics and doing the Ambulance or no? Plus the US is way more aggressive with Aerials where Europe use them more for surround and drown. I'm ok with what we have.

    • @EricTheBiker
      @EricTheBiker 10 лет назад +3

      I don't know if their firefighters are all paramedics. But a word on the aerial situation:
      I don't think we use them very often for surround and drown. Their main task is in about 80% aerial rescue operations (e.g. when a stairway is to small for a patient or generally in fires - fire stairs aren't popular in europe). Very common tasks too: cleaning the chimney on chimney fires. Surround and drown happens only if there's no other options left - and that case isn't very often.
      But there's also a major difference between aerials in US and Europe: US aerials have ground ladder, europeans haven't, US trucks often got water and a pump with them, europeans haven't. That results in a very different fire tactic.
      But: Our aerials are much smaller and lighter, thus more versatile for their main task: operating the turntable ladder.

    • @M-I
      @M-I 10 лет назад +3

      From my understanding the firefighters do a 24h shift and 12 of those hours they are paramedics and the other half firefighters. Normal firetrucks have all the same equipment than the ambulances

    • @juutalaistenpolttouuni
      @juutalaistenpolttouuni 10 лет назад +5

      In Finland, the paramedics are categorized into two groups: level A (primary/ALS) and B (basic/BLS) paramedics, where level A-paramedics go through a 3,5 university-like school and where B-level paramedics are practical nurses who have specialized in emergency care or firefighters. Some FDs in Finland tend to have 24h shifts, where you work 12 hours as a firefighter and 12 as a paramedic.

    • @EnjoyFirefighting
      @EnjoyFirefighting 10 лет назад +4

      as for the use of Aerials, it depends on where in Europe you happen to be: Thus, some FDs in Sweden have explosives on board of their Aerials in order to blast holes into the roof and through walls for ventilation / 2nd access points.

  • @thisissparta789789
    @thisissparta789789 11 лет назад

    I would like to see a comprehensive approach in American Cities. Maybe we could have a few Ladder Companies have specialised Elevating Platforms AKA Snorkels like H16 while others remain regular. Or we could even develop a system that puts European Ladders, which are higher than the standard 100 ft. ladders in America, onto Tillers for even greater mobility.
