Originally, Spyro was supposed to be able to swim, but if I remember correctly, they couldn't get it to work in time, so they made all water-like surfaces deadly. There was going to be a homeworld called Aquifers that would've had at least a few underwater levels, but obviously that had to be cut. I think I remember seeing something related to promotional materials that made reference to it, but it may have been for the cut Machinists world that they ended up using as Gnorc Gnexus. Thankfully they were able to get swimming to work for Spyro 2.
I never played Spyro myself, but I came across a Tumblr post the other day that was talking about how the background textures for the sky boxes were made. Apparently they were painted directly onto the vertices and the "box" was molded into shapes to form the background elements, and that's why they have as much detail as they do and also look all gradient-y, because vertex painting apparently produces a lot of gradients. I don't understand it myself (and I'm working off memory without even remembering who reblogged that post to put it in front of my eyed balls so I can't easily look it up again), but either way it's Super Neat :o
regarding the castle in artisans: it initially DID hide something! in some of the earliest magazine screenshots we have of the artisans homeworld, there was a room hidden behind a gate right in that wall that we don't know if it was intended to be accessible or not. it is in fact a remnant of a room once there! source: TCRF and me being a spyro turbo nerd :)
Always loved Dark Hollow. The late night feel combined with the warm lanterns and fire, the comfy music and just the atmosphere in general gives the level a a real warm, sleepy and comfy vibe, all while you get serenaded by croaking frogs
The first Spyro Game has one of my favorite overall aesthetics of any game I've played, so it's great to see a video taking a long look at many of the beautiful environments. I was caught by surprise that you found the room with water in Dark Hollow foreboding an uneasy. I've always found it very tranquil and cool. You're just in this secluded tranquil space with nothing but you and this glimmering water that is reflecting off the walls. It's like being in a cave used for meditation or something, a secret, cozy nook. I never really noticed that it was purple before, I always saw it as a really deep blue and I feel like they used purple because they wanted to communicate that deep blue, but they had to differentiate it from the rest of the level's blues. I'm also surprised that you didn't feature any of the dreamweavers levels, as those are some of the prettiest and whimsical environments in the game.
I thought about covering one of the stages in that world, but I didn't think I'd have a lot to say about them that I didn't already say in the previous sections. I do like them a lot though.
I think this is the first time i've heard somebody say they found getting to the area above the exit in Tree Tops hard. Usually its that area seen in the distance on the left at 20:28 that is considered two of the hardest areas and dragons to reach. I fucking died like a million times trying to reach that area as a kid.
I remember getting onto the boundary area of Stone Hill, then trying to do it with the other maps, I was CONVINCED. that you could do it in the Artisans world, it was only until I used a map viewer in adulthood that I found out theres nothing there :( I wish there was a mod that added such a thing, the mystery made it all the more fascinating
I liked the last homeworld. It made me imagine that Gnasty's domain is so hostile that this little island is the only place the balloonists could safely land. You are definitely in the enemy's territory now.
Ice Caverns can actually be done backwards and in Tree Tops you can still get to the high 2 hut area with just that one ramp. You just have to continue the super charge to that small "ramp" on the edge near the gold home portal. If you hit it just right and super charge up it then turn, you can make it up there. Spyro is one of my favorite games that I grew up on, so really enjoyed this video! Would love to see another video checking out other stages.
I adore the backgrounds and colors in the Spyro Trilogy. You should make videos about the other two games as well! I want to see their own beautiful odd areas up close.
These videos are great. I'd love to see one on World of Warcraft, even if it'd likely be 3 hours long. Tons of cool spaces around that no one ever pays attention to.
World of Warcraft is DEFINITELY one I want to cover some day. Problem is, I've only played like 10 hours of it nearly a decade ago. I'd have to REALLY put in some hours to give that game a fair shake.
This was my first video game I ever played nearly 25 years ago, and you really put into words the childhood wonder I experienced while playing it. Thanks for helping me relive it!
I've always wondered what the experience is like for someone who hasn't played a game I talk about. It's good to hear you still like the videos despite that.
Awesome video! :D I admit I'm a little surprised that Dream Weavers was the only world exempt from this tour. I had so much fun in it upon revisiting the game in the Reignited Trilogy! Haunted Towers is really a stand-out level for me now.
If you ever look at another Spyro game, PLEAse look at the Ancient Grove in Eternal Night from the Legend trilogy! It always fascinated me as a kid- Spyro wakes up on the shore (he had been flying there, but passes out during the flight for some reason I cant remember), and it just feels so isolated and empty. The beach is small and surrounded by an ocean of bright pink poisonous water with no trace of the edge of where you came from. And that's not even touching the stuff inside the forest!
OMG, THIS IS JUST NOSTALGIA FOR ME AS A KID, just unfortunate that I never finished the game.. tho the remaster looks too overly fixed snd doesn't give off the same vibe ig it's just the nostalgia that I had with this game on the PS2..
Oh man, I remember that game from an old Matthewmatosis video. Thinking back, it definitely did have a unique vibe. It'd be a weird one to cover, considering it's a puzzle game and you can't really explore the "environments", but it could be a fun challenge. I'll put it on my big list of things to check out eventually.
believe it or not, dense live wood is incredibly hard to set fire to, unless the wood itself is very oily and sappy. which is why firewood has to be set aside for drying for several months.

Huh, that's interesting. It seems like a LOT was cut from the first game, based off what little research I did for Machinists.

Its crazy to think of ppl only recently playing Spyro. I been playing Spyro games since I was 8!

Love these world tour videos, keep up the good work. Nothing better to watch after a stressful day.
Very interesting concept for a series, and fun to see unfamiliar areas!

This game is still on my list but hunting the original game down for the ps1 has been difficult. Great episode as always!
this game was my childhood, i loved this video! it was basically the only game i owned for years.
I would have played this A TON if I had it when I was a kid. It seems like such a fun thing to replay.

I did this with the reignited version, moseying my way around every level and looking all around.
I would really love one of these about Year of the Dragon, the third Spyro game. For me, it’s aesthetically the champion of the original trilogy
If you ever look at another Spyro game, PLEAse look at the Ancient Grove in Eternal Night from the Legend trilogy!

Intro went so hard on my soul
I love this channel
Watching this made me realize a interesting game for this series might be Vexx from the PS2 era.
I vaguely remember seeing that game on shelves in stores. I never played it though 💀
@@PretzelYT It had a real weird tone to it, definitely worth a look when you get the chance.
your videos are just so soothing. keep it up dude!
Thanks!!! 🙌
I loved this game as a kid ❤ my first PS1 game I got.
I hope to see more Spyro content. It's my favorite series.
I LOVE SPYRO!!
i recently finished this one on the reignited version, cool to see this vid

do you think you could make one for year of the dragon? Love these type of videos
Would you mind to take a look at the PS1 game "Kula World" ? It has nice vibes
