I like how Korvold is so powerful that "building him wrong" is pairing him with the set mechanic the designers intended him to synergize with
Wizards: okay, you can eat the food with korvold, very fair
Players: okay. I play fetch, sac and draw
Wizards: wait...what are you
Players: I make treasures, sac and draw
Wizards: ....stop...
Technically, it wasn't the "set designers". All four of those commanders (Korvold, Chulane, Alela, and the other one) were designed by guest "designers" with minimal to no modification by the professional designers.
@@MagicalHackerMTGreally? Wizards should've known that cod make things quite imbalanced. 2.5 of those commanders are very broken. Chulane and korvold are busted af and aleila is extremely strong as well.
@@camael4209Alela stax is quite a potent combination. All you need to do is just keep playing stax pieces and she just passively builds you an army as a result. 😆
@@stfinalwrath true she is very strong, but not on the level of chulane and korvold who just go infinite so easily and reward you heavily, with card draw, for the most basic things in mtg
I love the whole crew, but Phil has really grown on me over the past year. What a great addition to the goldfish family. Phil's love of his buff dudes/6 pack tribal deck makes me laugh every time it gets played. Keep up all the great work guys!
🙏
Yes, love Phil. And I always feel bad when he gets teamed up against, because he never talks his way out of it. 😢
Phil's dry, witty delivery is my favorite thing about Commander Clash whenever he's able to join. And "misery's back on the menu!" ought to be Crim's catchphrase. 😹
Crim: Theres not a lot of good cards so i don't understand why im the threat!
Seth: Me either but that's where we're at.
Best.line.ever.
Spoiler:
Crim's winning line:
He had Maskwood Nexus and The World Tree out. Therefore, all of his creatures in his deck were Gods and could be fetched out for 10. He even had enough mana to do it.
I totally missed that and realized afterwards lol! To me world tree is just a chromatic lantern 🤣
The moment he played the Nexus, I thought "this is game over next turn". And then I forgot about it until Niuttuc's note popped up, and then I thought, "Oh, right! Ertai could be tutored instant speed!"
Does that win through the Spore Frog?
@@jackl8025he'd do it in response to Seth sacrificing Spore Frog. One of the creatures he tutors would be Ertai, which has an ETB trigger that can counter an activated ability.
Nobody expects the 11-mana Stifle out of the manabase
Ever since "Golos Scout Tribal" in a previous season this has always been one of my favorite themes.
Fun fact - Seth *couldn’t* play Yavimaya or Urborg! The Fox requires all your permanents to have activated abilities, and those lands do not!
Ha, good call!
They give themselves activated abilities by becoming a basic land type
@wilholloway2924 I'm not good at explaining the rules interactions, but Judging For The Win made a video explaining this on his channel. He used Urza's Saga as his example, but Urborg and Yavimaya work (or rather, don't work) similarly in this example.
@@wilholloway2924 once they're on the battlefield yes
@@wilholloway2924they don’t become basic lands until on the battlefield, so they aren’t basic lands during deckbuilding which means they can’t be played. Somewhat similar to Grist, as they can be your commander because they are a creature during deckbuilding
This has beena great game so far. Crimms dilemma makes me wonder if we wrath too often for "value" rather than actual control. Sometimes it might be better to keep the agressive player going to do your dirty work xD
I don’t know if the cards are on MTGO yet but I would love to see an episode where everyone builds Aragorn, the Uniter but in a different way. Human tribal, Multicolored matters, Legends matter, maybe LOTR themed
Ohh, that could be fun!
Aragorn ditches Arwen and pairs up with Eowyn instead 😂
The originality and humor of Seth's deck was amazing. And the week when infinite mana on the opponents side is particularly unlikely was just the right time to play it.
This episode is just one giant proponent for graveyard removal.
Can't believe it has been 14+ seasons and this might be my favourite this far! Awesome!
I was playing a mono green stompy deck against a fog based deck. The look on his face when he finally read the 3 paragraphs of Questing Beast to see his fog did nothing was priceless.
I call shenanigans! Tomer has been talking up his Korvold food deck for years. This isn't built wrong! Tomer's just jank.
Korvold as a commander is so powerful, it barely matters what theme you use. Food, lands, Horse tribal, whatever
@@stevenyukabacera160horse tribal outside of white leaves you with like 3 horses lol
@@kaemonbonet4931and korvold will pick up all the slack still
Korvold was actually designed to work with food. All the brawl commanders were designed for eldraine mechanics (Chulane and adventures, Gwyn and knights) but they decided to make them open-ended and overpowered for various reasons. So it ends up being that Korvold is so busted with good cards that building him as a Food deck is the "wrong" way!
@@MTGGoldfishCommander I think it would have been fun to build him as a jund dragons deck. He's just too good to put in that slot for normal games I think. It's like putting esika as your commander for a shrines deck. Yeah she can help you ramp and tutor up enchantress pieces but anyone who sees that is gonna think, "I'm about to deal with some bs."
That's kinda what I'm thinking when we say playing it wrong. I'm using the card but it's primary synergy is not my focus. That said, cards that popular are so popular because they're good. Kenrith is the same way, yeah he could be a commander for a zirda style activated abilities deck. But reanimation card draw and haste from the command zone is just flexible and good.
Crim Bodied and Minded the table whilst playing Party and it even tooked him one turn less than needed. What a GAMER
I know the Eldraine precon Commanders were pushed Legendaries in an already pushed set but I feel the card would have been so much more flavorful and fun to play with if it was limited to sacrificing food specifically and not just any permanent.
Mechanically speaking sure but flavor wise that would have been a huge fail.
Wow, Phil and Crim were really attuned at the end, they did the goodbye sign at the same time very naturally.
The new intro screams "hello fellow kids"
Korvold was specifically designed to play well with food lmao
and yet building Korvald Food with no fetches is still building Korvald "wrong" (really it's the no fetches that's super wrong, they juice korvald like crazy)
Yeah for Standard.
@@Spaced92 for Brawl
As someone who has played against multiple different "fair Golos" brews, I completely agree with their conclusion at the end.
"how am I the enemy all of a sudden?" - "I just watched you end a man, dude" .. :DD
The new format for these videos is such an upgrade. Nice work, gentlemen.
Crim told me at Commandfest to watch the episode this week, Body and Mind continues to be an S-Tier sword.
I think my husband has spotted the obscure winning line: Sack the World Tree and put all the creatures from his deck onto the battlefield. Maskwood Nexus means all his creatures are Gods.
I don’t think maskwood nexus applies to creatures in the library. You “control” permanents on the battlefield and spells on the stack, but not cards in the library.
@@Cheerwine091nexus explicitly applies to creature cards you own that aren’t on the battlefield
That's what I saw too -- with Ertai he would've been able to Stifle the Spore Frog.
any talk to bring back the premiere? live chat is always fun.
I can confirm: I play Linvala in my fliers deck and at this point, I so don't expect to get a full party that I don't have a warrior in my deck. I didn't remember what her party ability is until Crim said it.
I did this with my Gyrus deck. Turned it into Jund Control while reanimating creatures that either return my spells to hand, shuffle my graveyard back into the deck, or help search for spells. The build around for the deck is Seasons Past.
Loving this season so far!
I don't even really like commander but this was great. Listening to Crim try to talk his way out of a wrath was hilarious.
2:07:10
Seth had a win there with Staff + Zirda active and passive.
Staff to tap the flying token if Crim responds by sacrificing linvala Zirda active can still target the token to guarantee the manticore hit for 15, if no sacrifice to protect the flying token Zirda can target linvala instead. Staff to tap the Dragon on Crim's turn to prevent the card draw. Seth wins next turn with manticore + staff/wishmonger or setup for riskier 13 cards in hand win.
Actually, at that spot ( 2:07:10 i.e. once he'd drawn Wishmonger ) I think Seth has exactly enough mana for a direct line to win that turn through combat.
Quick summary: use Wishmonger (cheated in cheaper via Arcane Artisan), giving 2 colors of protection to get through the two fliers, and then pumping the Flailing Manticore with remaining mana.
Details:
At that point, Seth had access to 11 mana (8 untapped lands, 1 from The Celestus, 2 from Mana Cache).
1. Activate Arcane Artisan for U (reduced from 2U by Zirda) to draw an arbitrary card and exile Wishmonger from hand, putting a token copy of it onto the battlefield
[10 mana available]
Crim has 2 flyers available for blocking: Linvala (white and blue) and Faerie Rogue token (black)
2. Activate Wishmonger twice, for a total of 2 mana (1 each, since reduced by Zirda), giving Flailing Manticore protection from Black (for Faerie) and from Blue (for Linvala) [could also do white, but would need to make sure that pro-white resolved last to avoid giving the Manticore protection from Wishmonger's ability]
Crim is at 22, Manticore is currently a 15/15 (originally a 3/3, but pumped +12/+12 by Coat of Arms since Crim's 12 creatures are all types due to Maskwood Nexus)
[8 mana remaining]
3. Activate the pump on the Manticore 7 times, making it 22/22 (with flying, pro black and pro blue), and attack for lethal
[1 mana remaining]
IF Crim decides to sac Linvala, to reduce Manticore down to 21/21 (i.e. Coat of Arms only pumping +11/+11), Seth can use the remaining 1 mana to pump Manticore back up to 22/22.
@@erikshimshock9315 Crim had Teferi's Protection and could have used that to avoid all combat damage
I'm impressed that they managed to build Kenrith wrong.
Nice long clash, I wonder if there was a way to win with the Triskadekaphile but getting the Colossal Skyturtle was already a huge W.
Great job on the intro and effects!!
I can't wait for another sliver episode featuring the sliver gravemother!!
KENRITH GAINS YOU LIFE *FACE PALM*
when i see kenrith and seth face so close next to eachother they kinda look alike, just that seth doesn't look like he looks down on you
So just looking at the intros and, come on Richard, don't tell my my Narset Monk deck is wrong!
The editing on these is god damn impressive these days. Top tier.
Crim could have activated the world tree and get every creature out of his deck, because every creature he controlls has all the creature types thanks to maskwood nexus
Was that the game winning line of play the video referred to?
@@hellmans_fury490 i would think so. As we saw crim had some anwers to the frog Reanimation Combo/synergie in his deck, bis boardstate was quite unchangeable, with the worldtree he had the anwers faster

Form of the Phelddagrif
GWU
Enchantment - Aura
Enchanted Creature becomes a Phelddagriph with
{G} Enchanted creature gets +1/+1 and Trample. Target opponent creates a 1/1 Hippo creature token.
{W} Enchanted creature gains flying and protection from black and red until end of turn. Target opponent gains 2 life.
{U} Enchanted creature phases out. Target opponent may draw a card.
Seths line at 1:07:44 legit made me laugh out loud. Tha ks for that one!
everytime I see crim play, at some point the man is scrambling to just keep his board state so hard XD
Man, I'm so glad Richard the Codfather is back.
Seth had the win the turn he drew wishmonger. He had 11 mana available, 8 on lands, 1 on Celestus, and 2 on Mana Cache. Crim has 22 life, and only 2 flying blockers (Linvala and a faerie token), and no mana available. Activate Arcane Artisan for U thanks to Zirda cost reduction to draw and exile the monger, making a clone. Down to 10 mana. Activate monger token twice, once for pro blue, and once for pro black, targeting the 15/15 manticore, that has flying, so it can bypass the only blockers. Down to 8 mana. Swing with manticore. Pump it for +1/+1 8 times, bringing it to a total of 23/23. Crim dies. Alternatively, pump for +6/+6, leave crim at 1, let him die to Bitterblossom trigger on upkeep.
On a completely unrelated note, Teferi's Protection should have never been printed. 3 Mana win the game spell seems a bit OP.
but its not 3 mana win the game. its 3 mana save your winning board state.
if they didn't lock counter spells behind blue though we wouldn't have a lot of these kind of over tuned interaction cards in colors that aren't allowed to counter spell.
The obscure winning line I see: use worldtree, every creature is a God so every creature ETBs, one of the creatures yet to be played is Puppeteer which steals Seth's frog from the graveyard and then exiles it.
46:00 The message that Crim sends here will last several games. This totally earned my like. 😂
The turn Seth drew wishmonger I think he missed lethal by not discarding it to arcane artisan. He counted he had 11 mana and could spend U on the artisan to draw and discard the wishmonger. Then he spends 2 mana to give the manticore pro-ub and 7 mana to raise its power to 22 giving the swing for lethal.
Richard wants to get the lights from "Cash Cab" and for them to go off when they say clash on
Phill did a great job of....philling in.
I'm surprised Crim discarded the clever concealment at the end. He might have been able to use it as a backup if teferi's protection got countered. If he phased out his coat of arms Seth may have not had lethal (I didnt count it up to check).
Ok but hear me out. I sing along with the old chorus. That shit brings me life on my morning drive
Grudge-skips his turn and then pulls it through 🤣
Loved the episode! Music maybe a little loud in the audio mix in the intro tho
I also call shenanigans…. Crim had too many lands in his starting hand…. Rigged!
One minor complaint and I don't know if this is a modo thing or an editing thing, but not being able to see how much mana was left in the Mana Cache because Phil was covering it made it a little difficult to judge the board state at the end. Like when Seth draw Cyclonic Rift I had no way of knowing if Seth had the mana to actually play it or not because I couldn't see how many counters were still on the cache. My guess is that it didn't matter but its just kind of a visibility thing?
What a crazy end to a game of commander though. Seth did it he broke mongers.
Korvold food is just "Korvold with the set mechanic he was designed to synergize with" 😂
On this week of "Punt or Bluff?" It's PUNT CITY! Will Phil find a way to "fix" Korvold or will Crim just bring back his "Dragon" deck to steal the win? Tune-in to find out!
I respect the new decision to play on camera, but this game wouldn't have been nearly as fun in paper on camera just becauase this had so much more great banter and team play. Great episode tons of fun!
I am just so happy about the S15 lineup.
Seth had the 'wrongest built' deck, so he wins.
Tomer failed the assignment. Korvold "eating food", which is an already sac-able synergistic mechanic is too in-line with what Korvold wants to do.
Imagine that...the guy that always pre-metas against the theme tried to do it again...
U know youtube considers commander clash a podcast lol
My favorite played wrong Commander was done by my friend who played kenrith The returned King with clash and traps, with a end game plan of monument to perfection
It was a close one, but Phil's pose wins for the thumbnail this week
FYI, I *love* mana cache. I used it back and the day and it was pretty funny because people just couldn't use the mana. Nowadays, it's more abuseable and less fun.
dying because of a mana cache is too funny hahaha
I love Seth's group hug deck
crim can world tree and due to maskwood nexus, go find pupeteer clique which steals the spore frog and gives him the win. He can also put all the other creatures in his deck into play too.
2:12:04: is it world tree + maskwood nexus? It would get the earti into play and he would counter the ability? When he toodecked the maskwood nexus I was screaming at my screen and he just never activated the world tree
Seth under utilized the tiny text at the bottom of zirda. So many moments where "-one blocker" would have solved the equation.
Phil is really not playing his commander wrong.....well the commander himself is op
Somehow phil has snuck his way into two episodes already, lets go.
Also because tomer built his deck it wont be too busted a d he might actually be able to win lol
Love to see Crim popping off without playing hard control
If Phil had used Pheldagriff as Commander his deck could have been Hungry Hungry Hippos.
Korvold just knows to BYOB
I am required by law to support Richard's Narset deck. Also, I am pretty sure it is damn near impossible to play Korvold wrong.
Damn one minute since posting I'm early, cool themes this season
Why didn't Richard counter the taste of death? Seems strange to me.
YES! I double-checked the text on the zero mana counter to see if I was missing something!
I think intro music was too loud compared to voices of others, instead of creating an ambience it was taking priority. Thankfully it's a tiny, unimportant bit of the great video.
I'm super confused at why Seth never used his vanquish the horder. Crim didn't have enough mana to replay the ur-dragon and Seth could have just recast Kenrith and swing in for lots.
Linvala can be sacked to make all your stuff indestructible. It's really good wrath insurance.
Oh thats a great point. thanks!
One Fog to rule them all, One Frog to find them, One Revel to bring(er) them all, and in the darkness bind them.
Best squad, lets go!
Turns out tribal tribal is pretty good, crim.
Fell the pheasant, Eldraine Limited Sideboard ... not all star :D
I've missed seth wish Tom had been able to stay
2:00:15 Seth could've bounced ur dragon and made crim discard afterwards so he wouldn't draw cards
"Who eats soup?"
Tell me you're an american without telling me you're an american :D
Crim is right tho, hes always the target despite Richard always swooping in for the win lol.
Does...does Seth not like fluids with his hot soup??
Imagine if Richard hard spot removal... who knew?
Well he did say that he was running it. Just didn't have it in hand lol
Crim brought the Andrew WK deck this week 😂
Good game. Party 🎉 and sword BAM body and mind. Hawt 35:09
THE CHANGELINGS ARE ALSO MANTICORES LOL
the end of this game had NO right to be that close lol
Spoiler:
When Seth draws the Wishmonger, I think he did have a win if he puts it in with Arcane Artisan, as this saves enough mana for the protection and pump that he was missing from hardcasting it.
He did put it in with Arcane Artisan
CLASH ON!
I miss the 2.5 hr modo games 😭😭
CLASH ON!!!
Dream clash lineup
I mean... we all love Crim and all, but it feels like its getting to be more and more every game.
