getting the game speed settings in sonic 3 air (read desc for tutorial)

if the screen went dark after the Sega logo, quickly press UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, UP, UP, UP, UP at the speed of light before sonic pops out the screen in the intro

Here's a easier way, when sega appears press start then do up, up, down, down, up, up, up, up as fast as you can then that should work.
