Both are legends. Ullman is master at introspective acting, her performance in Persona is unlike anything else you'd see in film, few actors understand this level of nuance.

I love hearing stories about Ingrid Bergman. Almost everyone who knew her has very admirable things to say. Despite her notorious life, her scandal, and those who clearly misunderstood her, in the end, it's wonderful to leave such accolades behind as one's legacy.

The cinema will never again have a presence like Ingrid's.

I recently watched "Autumn Sonata" for the first time and was blown completely away. I think that the subtitles kept me away from it all of these years. The funny thing is that the acting was so marvelous that you didn't really need the subtitles to understand what was going on. Ingrid Bergman was phenomenal. Her character was a vain, selfish woman and she played her beautifully. I'd hoped for a different ending, however, the actual ending was the most realistic one.

I saw that film she was talking about yesterday. I am amazed with the two of them!

Is there anyone who does NOT admire Ingrid Bergman? For different reasons everyone who does, perhaps. But the bottom line is that somehow, underpinning all the hoopla, all the loudly decried scandal surrounding her unconventional love life, Ingrid Bergman was admirable. Like an arrow from the bow of the goddess Artemis... whizzing swiftly, unerringly to its target. That was Ingrid Bergman.

mckavitt13 I couldn’t have said it better myself. I admire Ingrid a lot from studying her work as a film student, but I also love and admire her as a person. She always spoke honestly and truthfully, even during the so-called “scandal” of her love life. Ingrid often spoke about the “scandal” in interviews saying she was aware of her choices, but doesn’t regret her decisions. She has become one of my all time favorite actresses.

It's sort of sad that she keeps referring to Oscars - Oscars are prestigious, obviously, but they strike me as an indicator of mainstream prestige - I've always thought of Ullmann as someone operating in a more rarefied realm, like Tilda Swinton or Derek Jacobi, or anyone who's worked w Terence Davies - people whose work is above the Oscars

I think she comes from a time when the Oscar’s weren’t as meaningless as they are now. Also I think she’s kinda just joking too.

I understand Ingrid was dying of cancer at that time.
