I call this magic trick “one hour in the bathroom”
A makeup tutorial about self acceptance, the power of makeup and the dark side of the internet.
I uploaded this image to Tumblr and Instagram about 2 years ago, after going viral for all the wrong reasons i thought i better explain myself. This isn't about 'trust issues' or 'betrayal' this is about self love and an art form.

I think there is a huge problem with the people. If you don't wear make up, they say you are ugly. If you try to be more attractive for them, and you wear make up, they say that it's wrong, because it isn't your natural beauty. So how it is?

Honestly I don't know why people get insulted when a woman doesn't look her best at times. But nobody says anything when a guy looks bad. For instance i have seen people bash women on social media for going out to the store in sweat pants and messy hair, as if you are supposed to always look good because if you don't somehow you are offending them with your presence . I have experienced the same thing, after i had a major surgery, my own parents actually suggested i wear make up on because I looked too sick and i was bumming them out. I felt too weak to even care about how i look because i was concentrating on healing, but i guess looking good is more important. Sorry for my rant, but im tired of all these expectations on women to always look their best. As if that's our job.

Funny thing that majority of those mean things are written by a women. And she wears all those layers of makeup on her fucked up skin, which is already fucked up by years of makup and does nothing to improve the situation, just worsening it. + i will tell you how things look from male perspective, that in one way we are completely deceived, by how women look, we are told and showed that women are so different of us, physically and mentally to the point, where i see some girls without makeup it comes to me naturally that they look very simillar to men and it really makes them unattractive.

I watched this video for the first time in six years ago when it was first posted. I just want to say that to this day this video encourages me every time I’m feeling down about my looks. I love the message. Love yourself and save your energy for more important things in life. And if you want to put on make up go for it girl. Don't worry about other people, you will eventually come to realise in life if you have not already that you cannot please everyone - people will always judge whether its something good or bad so just ignore them and laugh it off (laughter is the best medicine after all). Instead, focus on being self that makes you special from everyone else. And yes, makeup does hide who you truly are because it is essentially a mask women put on to hide their flaws. But again, I'm not against makeup, I'm just against people overusing makeup to completely reshape their face.

Im 14, and I wore makeup for 2 years straight, pretty much every day. It's summer, and I haven't worn makeup in 3 weeks. I can definitely say I'm proud if myself from being so insecure, to not caring what I look like in public. I'm going to be a freshman this year, and I hope that I can display the same confidence I have now every day, and make people know and see that looks aren't everything.

I'm going to be a senior and lemme tell you, you don't need makeup so young. It will ruin your face. Wear BB cream, concealer, powder, at most on your face (also eyeliner, lipstick,mascara, is whatever) IF YOU NEED TO. But you really don't. From freshmen until junior year I wore makeup everyday because of my insecurities. Junior year I just wore moisturizer on my face and I felt so free, and no one cares lol. Now I only wear makeup if I'm going somewhere nice.
The people who wrote those comments might think they are beautiful on the outside, they may be but, on the inside they are ugly. And I bet that they don't look as good as you when they wake up!

honestly I feel for men like me too, we get such high standards when we constantly see women in make up, the stereotypical "hot woman" look which is essentially the same for every woman, lots of mascara (symbolizing long eyelashes), no eyebags, fair colored skin, colorful lips, etc. and that kinda gets ingrained as "ah that's what [hot] looks like" so it's a surprise when you see a normal woman like her (who I adore now after watching this video).
partly men are to blame too, they don't realize how being casually judgemental or rude affects a lot of women and their insecurities.
needless to say, most men find women attractive based on how honest, nice and their personal interactions with them, at least that's the case for me.
also hook up culture is always disappointing, and you don't have to hang around people who you think are too self conscious to look at things that aren't materialistic.

I don't use makeup because I'm lazy. And because I work in a very steamy environment (spa) so I don't feel confortable with makeup. But I like to see makeup tutorials to use some of the ideas when I go out or when I have a special dinner. The tutorials sometimes are very exaggerated and they change completly the woman's face to a drag queen which I think is too much. But... Like everything, you just take what it will work for you and leave the rest. This girls that use loads of makeup, it's OK. Is their passion, is their life, is their habits! We shouldn't bully them. This is a beautiful message! I was the girl in seventh grade who never talked or ever got into much trouble. not because I didn't want to talk I had social anxiety. I woke up really early every morning and put on pounds of makeup I curled my hair so much that now its burnt up.. This is so hilarious, I love the way you read the comments, that's probably exactly how they said it. You all are ignorant, if you have one bad thing to say about her. Let me also add, that majority of the people you see on tv, that u r drooling ovee, u wouldn't recognize without make up. That is why I always say, your goal shouldn't be how to look your most beautiful with your makeup done, ur goal should be how to look your best with no makeup on. Believe it or not, with a little adjusting, she could easily look like she does with makeup on, when she's not wearing any. You just have to want to walk that road.
