Good morning!☀️
JD! You are the very best storyteller ever! Love it!! ❤️🙏😊
I wonder how many cures there are in forests like the Amazon and the jungles of Africa, Papua New Guinea etc.
I think the French studied the formula after buying and then patented it as a vaccine instead of an elixir such as garrens
@@martinhardcastle9970there is plenty of cures in the Appalachians alone, they are a temperate rain forest, and have over 400 species of flower on just the smoky mountains national parkland.
This was a great video on natural cures long forgotten . I was under VA and public medical care for 6 years and almost died 4 times due to ignorance and being given the wrong meds or wrong dosage . I was told I may live another 5 years . So I started natural medicine and homeopathic self treatments , that was 30 years ago and I'm still kicking it today . 👍
Thanks for sharing this
Rockefeller believed in the power of education to promote wealth and well-being in society, though, so when the American Medical Association Council on Medical Education approached Carnegie in 1906 he was highly supportive of its efforts to restructure medical education in America. They forbid natural remedies to be taught anymore
Flexner Report (1910), and medical research devoted to finding pharmaceuticals to defeat germs to “cure” disease, were all funded by Rockefeller …
His efforts began in 1901, when he founded America's first research institution for experimental medicine: the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research, or RIMR …
Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie dominated their industries during the Rise of Big Business through the creation of trusts and monopolies.
As a retired nurse, I love the the granny witch stories❤
💜
I still have an ancient bottle of “Sloan’s Miracle Ointment” passed down from my great-grandmother. Another great story!
Wow!
I have to be on my deathbed to go see doctors. I still use onion tea to break fevers and treat colds. ❤
❤️
Havent heard of making tea out of onions, but cool! Onions have definate healing properties! :) Garlic too
@@patriciaryan1716 you boil a small onion till the onion is clear. Use the broth sweeten with honey or a little sugar. Drink it hot. If you have a fever cover yourself in a blanket drink the tea when you breakout in a sweat your fever is broke And helps build your immune system to fight whatever made you sick.
Great story as always. And its sad the way this world is but as always when money is involved it becomes more important than actually saving lives. The more they can prolong a sickness the more they make. They don't want a fast cure.
Yes, sir the $makes the world go round
Such a interesting story!! Just think of all the other things that could be helped or healed by elements in our Mtns. Makes a body wonder!
Thanks Michelle, That's the same thing I was thinking as I researched this story
Yes it does. Growing up I remember being told that if you were affected by something, like poison oak or Ivy, that there was an antidote nearby. This was God’s plan. 👵🏻👩🌾❣️
I would love it if you made a video about Mr. Solomon Jones of Henderson county NC (1802-1899) commonly referred to as the Roadbuilder. He is actually my 4th great grand uncle (in law) and was definitely one of the county's most important pioneer residents. He had a lot of fascinating facts and accomplishments in his life that I will leave you to explore if you are interested in his vast lifestory.
Hi JD! God gave us herbs and it states it in the Bible.
God gives us the use of plants and herbs for curative care, both physical (2 Kings 20:7; Psalm 51:7) and emotional (Psalm 45:8; Genesis 43:11).
Medical companies and majority of doctors don’t even want to talk about natural remedies or cures.
The Bible even speaks of cannibas oil. So many references to herbs in the Bible.
I remember my grandmother’s Bible and a passage she had circled in it about snuff. My grandmother dipped snuff and a person had chastised her for dipping. I didn’t even know she had circled the verse in the Bible till she had passed, but I did know about her being chastised for dipping. If you didn’t see her dip, you would never had known she did.
What a perfect story this glorious day and I would like to thank you for all your hard work.
Have a very blessed weekend!
Thank you so much for sharing this ! I always enjoy reading your comments ❤️
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller thank you and God Bless!
Good morning and happy Saturday everyone!
Morning Robbie
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller I hope you have a great weekend!
Hello I'm over the pond in Liverpool 😊 my daughter is now 29yrs and healthy ❤ but when she was a 2yrs toddler she developed a small lump on her neck, so I took her to be checked? Within a week she was admitted to the Childrens hospital to remove the lump which had multiplyed in a short space of time. 😢 Luckily the doctors removed it all, but what they removed carried on developing in the lab.😮 Thank you for you channel I love it 💕 xx
I know that God has placed everything we need to become and remain healthy right around us. I believe Adam and Eve were instructed and passed it down.
Good morning 12.50am sunday here in Australia. Enjoy your day
God created goods and medicine. Praise the Lord

I live in the farthest part of southwest VA. Living in the Appalachians I love these stories
Thank you so much !
It's an incredible story that makes you wonder..
Thanks for chiming in Jim... its definitely something to consider
Definitely an incredible story
That was a great story with some history. You do a wonderful job.
Thanks so much! Have a great Saturday
JD, thanks for the story my friend. On a side note I live next to the reservation in Swain and Jackson County. Until her passing a few years ago I would visit with an old lady, a medicine woman from the Cherokee. She treated 5-6 generations until the very week of her death. She was well over 100 years old but didn't know exactly. Her medicinal tonics, rubs and tinctures for what she collected herself was truly remarkable. Her knowledge was probably lost forever as her daughters, granddaughters, great granddaughters and great great granddaughters were unwilling to learn the wisdom of this fine ancient healer. Times have passed my friend and the knowledge of letting the woods heal you is almost a lost knowledge. Unfortunately.
I would have loved to have met her
That's a shame, now all her knowledge about natural medicine is lost.
@leannbrown7405 There are elders in all the Nations(reservations) that still adhere to the healing of nature. But it's hard to gain their trust as they see the white man as no believers. This knowledge needs to be tapped and passed on before they are all gone. Go to a Nation, not for the tourist part of it, and find some elders sitting on a porch or under a tree and stop and talk. Listen hard and retain what they say. You might be surprised.
Thank you for sharing this story with us! ✌🏼😊
Thank you !
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller 👍🏻😊
I never get tired of your story's.
Thank you James!
I would rather have the tonic than the vaccine. This is such a remarkable (and unknown to the public) story. That Indian was brilliant.
Thank you ❤️
My great grandfather was a Gilly. He was Cherokee. He was part of a family that had escaped the trail of tears march. The wife and daughters of the family died on the march but the man and two sons either escaped or hid. I wish you could have seen a picture of him. I’m 75 and he lived till I was grown.
Wow!
Is this how we, today, know about ,Goldenseal? Through the Native American person who offered shelter in the cabin? Don't know much about the benefits of the other herbs which he listed, but Goldenseal is definitely a highly beneficial herb. In our time now the best source is protected areas of Maui. Across the Southeast US this plant is in danger of extinction, from people collecting too much of it. Goldenseal powder dissolved in water tastes terrible. The effect of it however, is astonishing. Goldenseal is antibacterial and anti-viral. I have found it extremely interesting, to be hearing about its introduction to the modern world. Thank you very much for this video.
Thank you 😊
Always the greedy ones, the world spins on greed. Have an amazing day JD. 🙏👏💜🍁
Have a beautiful day ❤️
Grand way to start my Saturday

Really appreciate the work you put into your stories. You are doing valuable work preserving history, be it an old family tale or a small act of kindness that changed the world. Thank you.
You have combined history and medicine. I really like the combination. Jeez you do a great job. I really enjoyed the members only videos.

I have never heard it called Kings evil or scrofula until this video. I will turn 76 years old next week. When I was a child I visited a tiny house that had a woman inside it who was dying from TB (tuberculosis or consumption). After she died, that tiny house, and everything in it, was burned to prevent the spread of TB. The woman was buried in a grave not burned in the house. I have had the TB test many times. However, they don't test for it very often anymore. TB, tuberculosis, consumption, scrofula, or Kings evil has returned. The vaccine that kills tuberculosis doesn't work as well anymore; because, the disease has changed. We may see the spread of the Kings evil again.
Thanks for sharing this
I'd had the TB test so many times in 2005, 2006 that I tested positive for it July of 06 . They tested me everything I moved facilities . I tried to tell them, I'd had one a month ago, had 3 in the last 7 months etc.. but I agree there is a new 'kings evil' these doctors are still doctoring wo any know how .. gettin us all sick
Happy Birthday! That's scary to think it's returned!
My mother got it from a neighbor…at age 10 she had a lung removed… but had to have a painful treatment every year … at age 21 she quit treatment… too painful….in other countries TB is still going on…
JD, a great story like always. I love hearing the untold or forgotten stories of Appalachia. Yes, I believe that French company bought and passed it as their own medicine when it was created from the natural medicine of the Cherokee.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks so much for commenting ❤️
I liked that. One of my Great Grandparents and both families were from Missouri. My grandma told me that Frank and Jesse James stopped by in the morning and paid very handsomely for the breakfast they asked for

Wow
WHAT A BRILLIANT STORY ANOTHER CLASSIC
Thank you 😊
When my Moma was 16 her Moma got sick and lost a bunch of weight and my Moma had to leave school and take care of not only her Moma but her Daddy and 3 younger siblings. Moma called it a blood disease. My Granny had a woman come in once a week that brought her a tonic to drink. My Moma would bake her a cake of cornbread for payment. My Granny eventually got better but that memory stayed with my Moma for the rest of her life.
Thanks for sharing this
Love the Native American flute music brings me back to my oats as a Comanche as a native
Thanks so much for noticing the music
I wonder if we could find some of these hidden remedies? Im Amish, and a big believer in natural healing!
I actually found lots of natural healing recipes while researching this story
@mrtipsandtricks
"Health through God's Pharmacy.pdf"
In this Book is a Liquid which having the same Results, but be careful the Pharma Industry will bring you in Prison, caused you did Not Study Pharmcy.
This was happend to another Amish Samuel A. Girod who mixed a Black Salve which healed the worst Wounds and also Skin Cancer.
I guess he found an old German recipe.
He got six years in Prison + 3 years supervised Release.
Google:
"How the FDA Made a Felon Out of This Amish Farmer"
Thanks for the telling of a great story!
Thank you !
Scrufula a Lymph node tuberculosis is different from pulmonary tuberculosis in that it is not spread to others through contact because this bacterium only resides and develops in the lymph nodes, not spreading out. 50 years ago my wife had scrofula for at least 3 years before it was diagnosed properly. Fortunately it did not metastasize to her lungs so I was not infected.
Thank you
Many thanks, JD.
I appreciate your stories and all the work you put into each video.
When money is involved, someone is always trying to get their hands on the ingredients and claim it as their own .
Yes ma’am, that’s the way the world works unfortunately
Great story JD. It’s amazing the impact these old mountains and their people have had on the world. 👍
Thanks Chris!
Another great story from the past brought to the present. Thank you for telling it so well
Thank you so much, Michael. Hope you have a great Saturday.
Interesting story. It does sound like it was the same medicine. We never know all the cures we can get from natural roots and berries. Thank you, JD.

Good morning!

Another excellent story JD. I enjoyed it immensely. 👍
Thanks James!
My 3rd great grandfather, "Doctor" Henry Teters, was one of those quacks. He went up and down the Mississippi on a riverboat selling "Dr. Teter's Cure-All" in the 1870' & 80's. It was said that he never cured anyone of anything but sadness -and, boy, were they HAPPY! Apparently he was a doctor at the Battle of Shiloh in April of 1862 where his services were more genuine and really did save wounded soldiers' lives -both Yanks and Rebs. My great-grandmother "Lizzie" Arter from a different branch of the family died in 1899 at age 27 due to "consumption" seven months after the birth of her fifth child. Her father served as Ohio infantry and later Illinois cavalry for the entire Civil War. To the best of my knowledge Lizzie is my only family member ever to have the disease.
Oh, and Dr. Henry's granddaughter Etta Editha Teters, my great-grand mother, was known for recipes she learned from her grandfather. Her favorite was skunk grease, camphor, and lard. It was made from the scent glands of skunks. Dad always said if you were sick and she came up the hill with that concoction, you either died on the spot or immediately got well and did a full day's work because you didn't want that stuff shoved down your throat.
I’ve never heard the name of the king evil before, but I have heard of consumption. A very interesting story that again shows how the greed of man turns a gift from a native American to one man to help people into billions of dollars.
Thanks Janice ❤️
I grew up at a time when the last of the old medicine people of the mountains were passing away. My mother who is also gone used to say if we could have asked them about the herbs of the forest and how to use them before they passed away, the knowledge we could have obtained.
Thanks for sharing this
Thank you for sharing this video
So nice of you
Thanks, JD🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you brother
That was interesting... imagine what other remedies were out there, that actually worked. Imagine if all vaccines worked that well.
It really does make you wonder.
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller this may sound odd, but I remember my grandpa telling me a story about blacksnakes killing copperheads and even rattlesnakes. He said that blacksnakes would eat a certain plant/weed of some sort that made them immune to the poison.. no idea if that's true or not, but he seemed to believe it. He never said what kind of plant it was, maybe he didn't know.
Actually most modern vaccines are extremely safe and effective. They're also crucial to urban and even suburban populations who can't exactly be expected to forage for their own medicines either. But again, that ounce of prevention's worth a pound of cure of any sort. People can't gorge themselves on bad 'food' and then act all surprised when they get diabetes in many cases. At the end of the day, we basically are what we eat. Most people don't want to hear that, and I enjoy a little Guinness myself at times. Just most things in moderation and some not at all.
The French scientists simply went about learning how to synthesize the remedy for world-wide distribution. I have never heard anything like this story, it is quite remarkable.
Thank you 😊
Excellent!

I live about 25 minutes from Asheville (Trashville to the natives) and i dont find it hard to believe at all that someone got rooked from there.
well said Darlene
Is goldenseal and yellow root not the same thing? The way the ingredients were listed it seems they are different?
Ignorance and greed is at the heart of everyone
Agreed
I miss the banjo lead in
I still use it from time to time
He didn't sale his copy of the recipe did he? That's amazing how mother nature will provide just about everything a body needs. Thanks for sharing this JD .
I’m not sure what happened to the recipe, it literally disappeared
I find that if you use the correct natural medicine in the correct dose, it often works better than what the Dr wants to give you. And you know, it’s weird. We live in the age of computers, but I’m still making natural medicines in my kitchen. Some things never go out of style I guess, a good cure will always stand the test of time. Love your videos, thank you!
Thank you ❤️
I love to sit back, relax, and hear these stories told!
