Great Video! Thank You!
Thank you !
Great video, I can see what you are saying with Duratex & roller marks but I find if you thin it a little with water & use the same rollers that you used in this video I have no issues. In fact just buy the spray grade Durtex even if you are using a roller as its already thinned down for you. Works a charm.
Agreed. When applying Duratex, I put the first coat on thick, then thin the second coat, and I put it on using the supplied roller. No roller marks. Biggest challenge actually seems to be to get a consistent texture, rather than avoiding roller marks, but I guess that's down to application technique... :-)
Great video. Thanks for reviewing this product. It looks like it works well. When I built mine I wanted a smooth finish so I used Minwax oil base black stain (2 applications) and then I finished it off with 4 coats of General Finishes High Performance Satin Water-based Top Coat. Came out great. Keep up the good work. Love your videos!
Sounds like a nice finish. I'm glad you like the content. Thanks!
Can you do a video on building a subwoofer isolation platform? I'd love to hear what your thoughts are on the subject!
Thank your for the excellent video! Now if there was only something out there that equaled the single, consistent coverage on MDF that was NOT textured. I like a smooth finish but it is a personal preference! You have great skill and technique.
Thanks and I agree. A smooth finish isn't going to happen as easy as what you see here. If you've seen the base coat clear coat video, that was some work.
Hey I liked the video, I'm gonna try that exohyde on my 3rd sub. Where did you get the hammer kit? I looked on parts express but didn't see it
Thanks. You can try reaching out to Jason at jason@gsgad.com . It may still be available through GSG.
Hey post some spl sound demo for that build please
Love your videos and have learnt so much about my own dual Arendal 1961 1s Subs as a result. In a future video would you elaborate as to why you employ a major rolloff filter around 16hz? You say it in Video 7 I think but would be nice to understand why and what benefit? Also how best to do it? Many thanks.
Thanks. If you look at the winisd tutorial video ep 32 at about 26 minutes I cover this and show you why and what we are protecting the driver from when setting a high pass filter.
Another great video!
With a title like "Exohyde is it better" Id expect some kind of test to prove whether or not its better. Call me crazy. A better name for the video might be: a guy paints a box with Exohyde: doesnt show close ups, doesnt compare it to duratex, doesnt test its durability.
Need some close up stills man. Great video!
Thanks. And yes I should have done that. 🤦♂️
@@hometheatergurus Hahaha, don't sweat it, man. Your videos are some of the more interesting ones in the audio scene on youtube. Also, get involved with the guys over at Audioholics, Joe'n'Tell, Youthman and Technodad. Great crowd and friendly, too!
@@UpgradingAsUsual thanks. I'm friends with most of them. Youth man has helped me a ton back when I was getting the channel going.
@@hometheatergurus nice
@@hometheatergurus Actually, yeah, youthman mentioned you did help him out for his Minidsp subwoofer setup, too. Also, I used your REW video to help set up my two subwoofers as well. Not enough info about how to go about doing it online, sadly. But you did a great job on that video and I got them tuned in my room to perfection with your help.
How long until the room build videos, interested in the floor, wall stage and riser build
Also the fabric panel builds
Hopefully we'll start the foundation in a week or so. After that it will be a few months before I'm really into the theater build.
Can you paint over old finish without primar?
Hey you should consider doing a resin coat, do you have any advice on how much psi I would need in a air compresser to spray epoxy resin pre mixed, I hate using a brush
sorry I've never messed with resins.
So what is the total cost of a build like this and how would the Hammer compare to other subs at a similar price point? If much better, then which subs would the Hammer sub compare to?
How would you do orange peel sir
Hey dude can the exo Hyde be applied with a electronic paint sprayer
I'm sure it could using the same procedure as spraying duratex.
Nice!
I do car audio and have used Dratex in the past for my subwoofer boxes. Do you think this product is a good a Duratex and holds up as well?
looks great ...
Thank you!
Is it blacker than Duratex?
I can't really say. As you may notice I normally do veneers or fancy paint on cabinets. This is my first time doing an industrial look.
Is this for the new theatre in the new house?
No the new theater will have Dual GSG devestators hidden. I'll probably use this one in my new shop/filming area.
so what would be the steps to get a piano finish out of that
This product is more designed for Professional speaker applications, like DJ's and Pro Audio, outdoor wet scenarios and the need for high durability from when your roadie drops your speakers on the pavement. If you want a high gloss mirror like reflective finish you will need a polyester polymer product and possibly sanding sealer.
drop that cord down the inside of your shirt and out the bottom to the transmitter ;)
It's a plug in, you'll see on some videos i do that but there's time I just don't care. Heck I used to tape it between my pecs and hide it. As i've done more videos i don't care as much.. :)
@@hometheatergurus cool. Video was great too.
Would 1 gallon do 2 coats on 2 Hammers?
Yep!
@@hometheatergurus thank you
@@toolanddie9789 I'd say you can do about 2 coats on maybe 4 hammers.
No pun intended
😜
Might as well watch the kettle boil
Thanks for watching!

HAHA... yeah I was thinking there's no way anyone watched it yet...:)
This stuff sucks
