This commercial brought me happy tears 🥲 as this was the first brand new car that my late mother bought in 1977, she had the 3dr Villager Wagon from 1977-1984 and traded in for an '81 Ford Fairmount.

Funny how so many jingles just took existing songs and changed the words. In this case, "hold that tiger" became "love that bobcat".

I remember these commercials. I really want to see the Granada commercials, where the newly weds can't find their Granada, versus a mercedes

I have a few commercials like that posted. Do a search for "Granada" on the channel homepage. =)

Stepdad had a Bobcat. I think he said that it was the worst car he ever owned. It was fun for kids though. Growing up in the 70s, the family would go grocery shopping or somewhere in the Bobcat. 5 kids in the family, and if we all crowded in, one of us would have to climb up to the area under the back window and ride laying on our side or scrunched up or something like that.

the Bobcat didn't seem to have the stigma of the Pinto either.. Maybe there were some better features because it was Mercury, not Ford ?

I don't think so, unless you consider a larger grill and double wide tail lamps to be a better feature. BTW, it lost both of those distinguising features in the 1979 refresh.
