Simon you are giving me whiplash! Thank you for this new vlog, I am in a reading slump too, and just looking for something to get me started. I read Mrs. March and loved it, the end was very surprising...nice twist! I really enjoyed Memphis too! Safe travels, and see you when next you post.
So sorry I missed this as a premiere. Was laughing so hard at the “slightly rogue” black and white asides. Brilliant! Just got an ARC of Night Ship and also just got the new Emezi novel. Quite excited for those and for the new Emma Straub novel This Time Tomorrow (also for House of Fortune at the end of the summer). Afraid to watch The Essex Serpent because of how much I loved the book. Reading is definitely good for mental health! Hope you find some reading time over the jubilee weekend!
Never apologise. Life gets in the way. I certainly know that to be the case at the moment. Ha. Quite excited for Kidd and Emezi… sorry we need more excitement than that Cindy. Hahaha.
Just finished A Terrible Kindness and Sorrow and Bliss.... blinking loved both. Starting Lessons in Chemistry and then to Great Circle....what a selection of delights.
Hello Simon!😁Absolutely loved the monochrome moments🥰- wonderful books especially the hard cover of Pachinko, Tomb of Sand & Bittersweet & Joan of Arc book😁. Looking forward to your thoughts on them🥰Happy Reading😁👍👍👍🌟
Got VERY excited when I saw Mrs. March surface to the top of your pile. Read, read, read! Was the first book I picked up in 2022 and remains my favourite. Everyone I’ve recommended to (ok, two people) have loved. Something truly unique about this book.

i would love to read Pachinko with you ;) I need all the encouragement I can get to read that book, I've been putting it off for long enough. Also, I was loosing it over your black and white asides in this video hahaha! I think I need that jumper! Tomb of Sand sounds so great, at the moment none of the book shops in Australia can order it in, but I'm hoping i can buy it directly through the publisher or something! At Certain Points We Touch sounds incredible as well, and I have been seeing it in a few Queer lists lately.
You do need this jumper. Everyone does. I’ve even an eye on another one. I’m reading At Certain Points We Touch as the moment. It’s a slow burner, in a good way. How about we read Pachinko in July? We could even start on the first?

Still have Tomb of Sand on my tbr! This is not a pity memoir is on my books to get list. Just bought The Merciless Ones second in the Namina Forna YA series. So many books I sometimes struggle what to read next. Currently reading The Maid.
Funny video. Have you considered getting an eReader so you can read while you are traveling? I prefer reading print books, but when I was traveling a lot for work, I found having an eReader useful so that I always had something to read. Plus, didn't have to worry about what book to pack or damaging any book while traveling.
I read Pachinko this year. It was a 5 🌟 read for me. I was so surprised how easy it was to read, while being full of historical detail. Once I started reading I couldn't stop because I was so hooked into the characters stories and their lives. I hope you also enjoy the book and it helps you with your reading slump.
I’m sooooo looking forward to reading Pachinko. If that’s the right term for the subject matter. I’ve pretty much seen raves about it across the board.

I was in a bit of a book funk and then I picked up and listened to on audiobook, Anita and Me by Meera Syal. I really enjoyed it, which I'm glad about, as I always say it's one of my favourite books of all time but I haven't read it in years, so I was pleased to find that I still loved it.

It's impossible to get hold of Tomb of Sand at the moment, and I guess its popularity is a good thing. I envision emergency re prints taking place as we speak.
Yes. It can also be sooooo costly to a small indie to win, so they might be partnering with other publishers. I’ve seen it’s got a publishing date in America now for next year which is exciting.
I just got approved for The Night Ship on NetGalley and I’m so excited! I struggle to read digitally but I made an exception for that book because I love Jess’s work so much. Really enjoyed Mrs March: the writing gave me Shirley Jackson and Daphne Du Maurier vibes so hope you’ll enjoy it!
I'm really looking forward to the Night Ship, I've just finished reading the The Island of Missing by Elif Shafak Tree's which was wonderful! I'll be picking up the Facemaker by Dr Lindsey Fitzharris next. Happy June reading!
Glad you enjoyed Missing Trees. Let’s hope we both love Night Ship. I’m nervous of that new Dr Fitzharris and how she will handle that subject matter. Do report back.
I just looked through my shelf and picked 7 books for my five star predictions and it was super fun and got me excited! I read When We Lost Our Heads a few months ago and absolutely loved it! I hope you enjoy it!! Also - Pachinko is an epic and amazing!
I’ve just got the latest Merrily Watkins book. The Fever of the World by Phil Rickman. Been waiting forever for it. I am itching to get to it but I never allow myself to start more than one so I might read late into the night to finish Little Black Lies which has been great. Loved this video, you were so animated. Thank you
Hi Simon Pachinko is great. V readable. Japan invaded Korea. I know u dont like to know too much b4 u read a book but i did read Mrs March as u mentioned it a few weeks ago. interested to know your opinion of it. Cheers
Hoping to read Mrs March soon. I’m definitely going to be reading Pachinko at the start of next month… is that fact you’ve told me a slight spoiler of the book 😬
Whaaaat?! A sequel to The Miniaturist? Exciting. I laughed all throughout this video. You are such a hoot! Thanks for the laughs. How is Oscar doing, btw? ❤ And, your wall pictures are missing behind you...redecorating again?
No, I moved the picture as it often looks like it’s growing out my head. So just vanity. No decoding. Glad you laughed a lot. Oscar is doing really well. Cuddles for hours.
Books I am hoping to get too next: Iona Iverson's Rules for Commuting (little bit of London in Vancouver!), Miss Aldridge Regrets by Louise Hare, The Mermaid of the Black Conch (on sale in Vancouver in July), and Sweet, Soft, Plenty Rhythm by Laura Warrell (Fall title getting lots of USA buzz).
Ive got Young Mungo glaring at me from my shelf too, suffering with the hype, silly really, we all know its going to be a belter. Time to be a big brave girl …
Yeah that’s the crazy thing isn’t it? I know I will love it. I’m just being really daft. I have decided I’m going to aim to read it by the middle of the year… I think.
Not coming up in the next couple of weeks, but, of course, the new Maggie O’Farrell has me positively drooling! In July, I’m super excited for Silvia Moreno Garcia’s The Daughter of Dr Moreau, Sarah Pearce’s The Retreat, and Ruth Ware’s The It Girl. Couple more crimey books coming in August as well, Clare Mackintosh and someone else I’m blanking on. I’m very excited for the new Mieko Kawakami, which I have but am a little worried to start.
I can share the news that the new Maggie O’Farrell is very very very good. I’m looking forward to the next Ruth Ware, though I still need to read the last one. I also really want to read Silvia Moreno Garcia full stop.
I'm still laughing about the comment asking for books "men might enjoy". You're reaction is a hoot! Several of these books sound intriguing. I loved Mrs. March! I found it to be dark and tense...in a good way.
Hello Simon ! I hope you will have a wonderful time with your job ! For the moment I have Tomb of Sand by Geetanjali Shree in my "love to read" list, but I know it is going to be an emotional journey, as my grandparents were Indians and had to come to Pakistan before settling in France .My grandmother never returned to India , and never got the chance to see part of her family again. So I am preparing for some teary moments. See you soon !
Maybe you should watch BrownGirlReading's interview with Tara M Stringfellow! It put me off reading Memphis. I think it's one of those books that sadly has been over-marketed(?) Love Didi and she had a very difficult time with Tara M Stringfellow!
I would absolutely call Mrs March a narrative thriller (I loved it)! Also, please cry for us Americans who don’t get that beautiful cover for Joan (I was kind of obsessed with Joan of Arc for a while as a child… Actually seems to be common amongst the queer women I know…?) - the US cover is so sad. I’m scanning my shelves and there are SO MANY that I want to read immediately but I think Everyone Knows You Go Home by Natalia Sylvester and Elena Knows (which I just bought yesterday) are towards the tippy top ☺️ if you make it to NYC, do you think you’ll do a meet up?
I have thought about a meeting up though at the same time it seems quite grandiose. Hahaha. It could be fun though. I can’t cry for you as y’all could order from Blackwells with free postage. Hahaha.
I have a feeling I will love it. I’m not going to ask if you did or not as I am super excited about all these books and always say if you didn’t love them, tell me once I’ve read them. Hahaha.
Do you have a new Tattoo on your left arm? The Night Ship sounds good. The Tomb Sand looks good for a long plane trip- but a bit chunky to carry!! Don't know why but I cant get into short stories. Love your videos but if you need a break for well being- everyone would support your choice.
I think just filming as and when will work for me. I think I had a chat about it in a video a while back, as I did my tattoo which is newish, three weeks old. I included getting it in a vlog, polarising content. Ha.

So pleased that you enjoyed those two, a very good sign. Which seven books did you pick?
A Certain Hunger was so good! Hope you enjoy it :)
Oooh I’m so pleased you loved it, that’s a good sign as I’ve seen a few people DNF it 😬
I’ve just got the latest Merrily Watkins book. The Fever of the World by Phil Rickman. Been waiting forever for it. I am itching to get to it but I never allow myself to start more than one so I might read late into the night to finish Little Black Lies which has been great. Loved this video, you were so animated. Thank you
Hahaha. Tiredness makes me more animated as my brain is all over the blinking place. Haha.
@@SavidgeReads no no spoiler
@@SavidgeReads Great news about Oscar! Ha! The pics are growing out of your head! Ha!
Oooooh The Mermaid of Black Conch. A book that’s very special to be.
@@SavidgeReadsI’m looking forward to reading it!
@@SavidgeReads SQUEE! September’s only 3 months away!
Tomb of Sand is a strange read which you can get lost it. It is a difficult read but worth it
I’m really looking forward to it. Strange can be good. So can difficult.
I'm still laughing about the comment asking for books "men might enjoy". You're reaction is a hoot! Several of these books sound intriguing. I loved Mrs. March! I found it to be dark and tense...in a good way.
Dark and tense is good!
Natalie Haynes new Medusa retelling is top of my list 🥰📚☕️
That arrived here this week!
Elena knows is wonderful and devastating- would love to know what you think.
I’ll hopefully head to it soon, when the mood takes me.
Wow. Sounds like that could be an intense reading experience.
Not gonna lie, I kind of love overtired rambling Simon. lol
Hahaha. He returns in the next book haul later today. Well not quite as tired.
Mrs March is excellent. 👍
Looking forward to it!
When We Lost Our Heads sounds great - first time hearing about this one - my bank account is growling 😅
Hahaha. Oops. I think I might read it this very weekend.
Maybe you should watch BrownGirlReading's interview with Tara M Stringfellow! It put me off reading Memphis. I think it's one of those books that sadly has been over-marketed(?) Love Didi and she had a very difficult time with Tara M Stringfellow!
Really? Oh my goodness. Is that on her insta or her RUclips?
Hahaha.
You do 'rogue' well🙂 lolol@ 'contrary fairy'😀
Hahaha. Thank you, I think 😉
Tomb of sand is not out in the United States
I am sure it will be now it’s won the International Booker. Might just take a while.
Mrs March! I hope you are not disappointed 😔
I have a feeling I will love it. I’m not going to ask if you did or not as I am super excited about all these books and always say if you didn’t love them, tell me once I’ve read them. Hahaha.
Hola from Canarias, Simon! 💖
Hola Daniel!!!!!
Can you suggest books men would like …. What ? !? 😂 so bizarre
I love your waffling videos… it’s real ..☺️
Awwww thank you. You’ll love my upcoming wrap up then… hahaha.
Ha.
You are 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Oh you!!!! Thank you Sandra. That’s lovely of you to say.
Ooooooooo !!!!!!! ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
Glad you’re excited Jacob 😉
@@SavidgeReads Happy Pride Month !!!!!!!!!!
👍🏻👍🏻
😃
I guess you have to start recommending war and sports stories for MEN. 🙄🙄🙄
I mean how would I know?!? Hahahaha.
If any of you are artists can I please commission a sketch / cartoon of Simon riding the Waffle Train to Waffle Town? 🧇😂
Hahaha. Imagine.
