I live watching your expressions during this - it feels like you’re constantly going back and forth between ‘yeah, these guys are amazing’ and ‘well that’s just unfair…’
This is a great one to break down. Any of the “acousticish” videos have more than enough amazing vocal acrobatics to fill a reaction video… but the things Gracie and crew do in “I’m Confident that I’m Insecure”…. Damnnnn…. Just damnnnn.😳. Thank you…keep it up😊
They are basically the band/music version of Ted Lasso. It's just pure joy. Also I love finding reaction videos to all of their stuff but this song in particular because as Crazy as Gracie is going, Clyde is doing some absurd runs when the camera is off him that usually get overlooked. Also love that as as absurd of level of execution as this is, when you see their recent acoustic-ish videos from this year, you can hear how much both of them have improved even from this as vocalists. Which is...unfair. haha
Omg Yes! My emotional response to many of their performances is similar to watching Ted Lasso! You just wind up with a grin on your face while experiencing it. Brilliant, sir.
Maaaan, I have nudged the few big name reactors who give actual good musical analysis to do this performance for years now. Glad to see Beth is the one breaking it into the big leagues(of vocal reactors). Been enjoying watching Lawrence's slow motion explosion in popularity since this song, the Microsoft ad, Jonas bros, opening for Rolling Stones, Kimmel, etc....but it is so insanely different compared to most bands because they're independent and don't just get shoved into the ears of people through some standard marketing package. They even put the LiveNation mafia in their place and STILL are coming out on top 😁 So happy for them to be seeing the rewards for all their hard work the last few years. It's even more satisfying when you consider it's mostly just through the word of mouth by appreciators of music who can tell when vocals are live and REAL when on stage and not the live autotune that tries to keep it exactly like the studio.
@@Whoracle8531 That would surprise me, TBH. Lawrence are not, quite sadly and inexplicably, click magnets. I don't see Elizabeth spending the time or effort if there isn't an obvious payout. Beth's a saint for doing this reaction. Hopefully, she'll lead others to Lawrence but, if not, at least we have this true treasure - utterly enjoyable from beginning to end.
I love how you really took your time and dug deep into their background and achievements ^^ This is what really adds value to a reaction video, and sets it apart from „standard reactions“, you really came prepared and I appreciate that.
To add to the "amazing" factor, this video appears to have no cuts--it's all one take, meaning everyone in this room sang this live from start to finish.
They are exactly as mindblowingly good live too. Saw them in Munich and was probably one of the best concerts I've ever been to energy-wise. They played for at least 2 and a half hours, maybe longer at 100% even with no air conditioning in the middle of the summer. I was drenched from sweeting that's how much I was yelling and dancing, major props to them for holding on through the whole show
There was a mistake in the 'Formation and Members' note near the beginning of the video ( around the 0:25 mark). The band actually has always had the 8 members in it, including Clyde and Gracie. They only feature the rotating ensemble of other musicians in specifically their 'acoustic-ish' performances on youtube. Easy mistake to make for someone just getting into their stuff, since most people only recommend their acoustic-ish stuff to new fans, and leave them to discover the group's core discography on their own. Really loved how much you enjoyed the performance, and all of the musical analysis terms and techniques notes that you had popping up along with your commentary. Really educational and interesting. Great video!
It's not just you, Beth. I'm a grown-ass 53 year old man and I still have to fight back the tears at the end of every time I watch this video. It's talent and joy and creativity all rolled into one. Can't wait to see them live someday.
This review is special! You know what you are talking about and give us background information on the artists while making it fun and entertaining for us to watch you. Thank you very much!
Please note that there are no edits in the video - what we are seeing and hearing is an actual full live performance with no autotune or backing tracks.
Well of course it was mixed and mastered. But done from a single performance. Watch the version they did of “23,” recorded while performing from their bunks on their tour bus, recorded ON THEIR INDIVIDUAL CELL PHONES. Is it subsequently mixed and mastered? Absolutely (and brilliantly by Jonny Koh). But the underlying talent is exceptional.
I can't believe I've never heard of them. I watched a bunch more of their songs the other day and they are all so good! Clyde has such amazing tone and Gracie is sooooo amazing technically.
i have been dyeing for music like this for years and years and years, and man did this particular song just nail the dog shit out of the music lover's experience.
Well welcome to the club. My family and I all have VIP preshow and front of the stage for their show next month in Fort Lauderdale. Can't tell ya how much we've been looking forward to this. It's gonna be bananas!
I've been saying this since 2022. Lawrence the Band is your favorite bands, favorite band. They have many great songs and are touring now with a new album
In all my years, I feel like there is seldom anyone new anymore that comes along and inspires and uplifts musically, but these "kids" have done that for me in the past couple of months. Such amazing, natural talent. Hope is renewed.
I was hoping I’d see you do a react to them at some point, I’ve been a fan of theirs since for a couple of years now and I’m happy to see they are finally getting the attention they deserve!
I recently had the chance to see Lawrence perform live for the first time (been following them since 2017), and let me tell you something: I never thought I could cry and laugh so much in a single concert!!! There´s something about their music that just reaches out to every emotion in me! Their songs just hit me differently!!! Much love from Barcelona!
I remember the youtube algorithm gods blessing me with this video upon its release, and I was immediately blow away and hooked. I downloaded their two records, and while still good, I was kind of let down. They need a producer who can capture the energy and blissful talent of their "acousticish" live versions. Songs like this, or "Weather" are so effing powerful in these live versions, and are just too sterilized on their album versions. Great vid and breakdown, appreciate your love for the apparatus and insightful instructions Beth!
Two of the backup singers, Tema Sigel and Veronica Stewart-Frommer are the lead singers of their own bands, ‘Couch’ and ‘Melt’ respectively. Both have some really incredible voices and songs, couch does an awesome cover of Billy Joel’s ‘Vienna’ and their original song ‘Poems’ is wonderful, I’m less familiar with Melt but their video for ‘Walk to Midnight’ (which I think they filmed in the same studio Lawrence is using right now lol) has some great vocals too
This song makes me smile. Have been following the Lawrence journey for a few years. So much talent in all areas from writing through production and performance. So talented. Their band consists primarily of school friends.
Love the “Pop-Up Video” format of your reactions. The real fun is watching a professional reacting to the band’s performance, because there’s initially some critical discussion of technique and talent, but eventually there’s a point reached where the person just smiles and takes it in like the rest of us. What floors me is Gracie has discussed her upbringing and education in interviews and said she hasn’t had a lot of professional vocal training, which is just mind-blowing.
Funny you mention Christmas..They did the music for the Disney film Noelle, and Gracie has some acting parts in it. That's when I realized I'd heard them before but put it together that they were a serious and talented group!
This is why I love your reactions. They are always so insightful. Even if I've heard the subject material 1000 times, you've got something interesting to add. :)
They're so good. All of their Acoustic Ish performances are equally jaw dropping. Please do more! It's so fun to see people experience it for the first time
Yay!! I've been a big fan of theirs since 2017. Glad you enjoyed :) Fun Fact: Gracie was an elf in the movie Noelle on Disney a few years ago. And Clyde helped write the music that Lawrence performed. I feel like their big sister watching them grow. I'm so proud
Every performance they do in this setting (they label the later ones "acoustic-ish") is blow you out of the water great. Listen to all of them. They're probably open to a chat/interview if you contact them. They're big enough to have opened for the Jonas Brothers, but not too big to do Internet interviews.
I’m so happy to have hopped on the Lawrence train before they were huge, they’re super nice and I’ve met them all a few times, it’s my favorite thing watching people react to them for the first time!!!
Lawrence is so much fun to go see live. I've never been to a concert with so much energy. I also challenge to you to listen to all of their songs and not just absolutely fall in love.
Great to see a Lawrence reaction on here and it is nice that you include so much background information. Not to quibble too much but the band "Lawrence" has always been that 8 piece band since they were established. All four albums have that same lineup. The acoustic-ish "covers" they do include various guests that vary from video to video but they are guests. The main band though is that 8 piece. Lawrence is not just Clyde and Gracie along with whoever happens to be with them on that occasion. That is not to go into how the band is incorporated as a legal entity. I wouldn't have a clue about that. Incidentally, if you want to delve into the music of any of those guests, Couch and Melt are both phenomenal.

Their songs are so joyous, you can hear the gospel take-me-to-church feel, but updated and relevant to kids today. TBH, I think they're better than even the Stones. I know, I'm no one, I couldn't hit a note with a shotgun, but I've never heard any singers with this range, this warmth, this ebullience, and Gracie's voice does everything from adorable to full on POWERHOUSE, and it's totally wild. They shouldn't be opening for anyone. They should be THE BAND. I don't understand why they aren't as big as Beyonce. And I totally agree with @dannyblau3850, they're like Ted Lasso! They bring hope with their crazy talent!
Glad you found this video! Think you could do it with all "acoustic-ish" versions. And maybe check out Veronica Stewart-Frommer's amazing performance singing Harvest Moon with her band Melt in the "Live from Echo Mountain" video, she's the first friend of the choir to be introduced. :)
Lawrence are obviously talented, Gracie sings, like Janis Joplin would have born again. they know so much about music - this song makes me goosebumps ever again!
"This is olympics standard singing" - YES! Very well put. Also, touring with the Jonas Brothers came after Clyde and two other bandmates, Jordan and Jonny, helped write and produce a couple songs on the Brothers latest album under their production name The Diner.
Grats on the album! It's awesome! Lawrence is quite the rabbit hole. Older than Don't Lose Sight, their acoustic version of their song The Weather with the gospel reprise would make for a great reaction if you're going in blind. It's a great showcase of not just their skill but the skill of everyone they include.
You’ve got to do “sweet symphony” by joy oladokun and Chris Stapleton. The contrast in their voices work so unbelievably well. One of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard
Hey, came here because of Lawrence - what a band. Great to hear a Scottish voice! I actually prefer Clyde's vocals. I know nothing of your channel but shall explore! Loving your responses and enjoyment of the music. They're pretty disgustingly amazing. :)
Speaking of siblings, you should check out the sibling power trio, The Warning. A rock band of three Villareal sisters from Mexico who are making waves in the rock world. Consisting of Lead vocalist and guitarist Daniela "Dany" (24), vocalist and drummer Paulina "Pau" (22) and bassist and backing vocalist Alejandra "Ale" (19) They formed The Warning in 2013 and just released their 4th album of original music, Keep Me Fed. My recommendation to start with would be their song "Hell You Call A Dream" from that album, performed live at the Pepsi Center, CDMX (CDMX is the abbreviation for Mexico City)
loved this reaction! 23 is maybe my other fav of these if you want to check more of them out, though I am sure everyone will say their favs in the comments ha
Dunno if you care about such minor things, but 9:18 is missing the C in Clyde 😉 Thanks for sharing your analysis on such a great band and song. Your response at the end is precisely how I feel most times I listen to Lawrence: They showcase joy and talent in most of their songs which makes it even easier to vibe with. Even if it's not your preferred style of music, you can't deny the talent and what I would describe as "optimistic joy" after listening.

For a music nerd, Lawrence is just a candy jar of happiness.
Omg yes and then can you do the ‘watcha want’ acoustic by them too because that is fully insane!!!
It is off the hook. 💯
Indeed! Waitin´ for it too... This was my entering to Lawrence!
She's gonna freak with the new song😂
Can't second this hard enough!
I live watching your expressions during this - it feels like you’re constantly going back and forth between ‘yeah, these guys are amazing’ and ‘well that’s just unfair…’

"Guy I used to be" acoustic-ish!! Let Clyde show off much more for once! He deserves some flowers!! Oh gosh, there are so many!

There is a great quotation from Schopenhauer: "Talent hits a target others cannot hit. Genius hits a target others cannot see." Lawrence is genius.

Wow Beth! Stunning vocal control and harmonies! Their blend of gospel, blues, and R&B is top-notch. Incredible performance!
I LOVE seeing other people enjoy Lawrence. Seen them twice and cannot wait to see them again
Oh My! Finally!!
If you love this, you HAVE TO hear some of the others. Pretty much all the Acoustic-ish stuff is incredible, honestly.
the exuberance of this song just knocks me over, and your reactions & analysis were a delight to watch too
I just came across this. I have watched that video so many times but seeing your joy with it made me tear up too. They are an amazing band.

Lawrence is so good, it's not even necessary to critique them. You can you sit back and enjoy the talent, skill, and passion for what it is.
Been watching your videos for quite a while. YOUR SUBS COUNT!!!!!! Nice, girl. You deserve it.
Going to see them in New Orleans in October... can't wait!!!

23 Acoustic-ish is my absolute favorite
768k, fair play to you Beth, really nice work.
Linus is their little brother also!
Please do me of their acoustic-ish versions they are all insane
You should check out The Suffers and their self titled release. Some great tracks on it like "Midtown" or "Make Some Room".
They are clearly "otherworldly"!! And they're just getting started.... Note to the music industry... LEAVE YOUR GRUBBY HANDS OFF THEM!!!!
it kinda looked like you were tearing up there at the end and all I thought was, thank god it's not just me
If you haven’t done it yet, you need to react to King Diamond Arrival live at Graspop. I think you will be pleasantly pleased and surprised.
loved this reaction! 23 is maybe my other fav of these if you want to check more of them out, though I am sure everyone will say their favs in the comments ha

they way she goes from 0 to 9000 in a few seconds...

i love your reaction to thiss!
