COMMENT: Are you a native of any of these “old money” communities in New England? Perhaps you have a family member or acquaintance who is from somewhere on this list?

Newport RI should be top on the list!

Exactly what I thought! Dover? Really? It's a nice suburb, but a lot like any other nice suburb.

The eloquence of this video is impressive! Compliments to the writer. Sounds like a well written novel. I miss that kind of beauty in language which has become a relic of the past. The narrator also delivers perfectly, a pleasure to hear🙂

@@oldmoneymansions Worked in network TV and film many years now retired. The productions values, video, writing, and narration is absolutely top drawer. Has the feel and impressiveness of a quality BBC production. I'm now hooked on the series, working our way through the FL Wright programs which are also superlative.
Kudos for doing a fine job. Production credits please?

Grew up in Rye, sailed and Dads family was Marblehead. Though in both towns we were just..locals, they were both small 50years ago and the summer kids and us were friends and were at each other's houses. It was pretty chill.

The ropes mansion is in Salem, MA, not Prides Crossing. I was surprised that when you were talking about Marblehead, no mention was made of Marblehead Neck and it's houses. As you first said, the Feake-Ferris house is in Old Greenwich, CT, not Dover, MA. I live less than 20 miles from Dover, MA. There's a store, a sandwich shop, a gas station, an American Legion hall, and a library.

Maybe you'd prefer choice of next-door Wellesley to Dover, it's undeniably "old money" whereas Dover is more "new money"

@@peterruddick1952 There's both old and new money in both towns. Old money Hunnewells in Wellesley and Saltonstalls in Dover for example. Dover and Sherborne were the old money horse set towns.

NOTHING TO SEE in Dover (and yeah there's no Feake-Ferris house there, it must be in Old Greenwich, CT, like the man says). There's literally nothing to see, I know bc I grew up there since day 1 through college, peaceful spot to raise kids but its rural... having a gas station, town hall, a drug store, a small library, and a small over-priced 'market', and a couple realtor offices,,, that's pretty much it unless you count a baseball field & the tennis courts. The ONLY reason they put the town in their video is that the 'per capita income' of the town is the highest in the state... if you go by 'household income', then Weston would be the highest in Mass. But as far as things to do or see, you can forget it. If you need to shop, have to visit Wellesley or Natick. The good part is, very few strangers stop in, and they leave seeing its a one horse town.

No mention of prolific author John Updike who had a fine old mansion in Beverly Farms.
In my corner of Connecticut there are many old mansions left, but they are inhabited by "new" money.
Old money lives in far,far more modest houses. They have a horror of appearing rich and live in constant terror of being separated from a single dime.

lol,,, That is Real New England truth. Yep, old money doesn't show it or talk about it, many go out of their way to buy economy cars and track the gas mileage. The field i worked in (secratary to Boston's 'elite' doctors). I found out old money life looks Really boring. Same dinners, same people. boring.

After the first nine were presented, I thought sure this was written by a resident of MA's North Shore or CT's Fairfield County. The inclusion of Dover was a pleasant surprise, and appropriate, as would have been the inclusion of Brookline, Milton, and Cohasset, also in Norfolk County MA

Rich celebrities that move to town don’t define it. It’s the ones that grow up there that define the culture of the town.

These old money mansion videos are entertaining but very poorly researched. Newport, RI is the epitome of old money not just in New England but in the entire US. But not mentioned at all. Ridiculous. Also, communities such as litchfield, CT, Martha’s Vineyard or Lenox, MA have more old money vibe than places like Manchester by the sea. This list seems quite random and was probably picked by ranking towns in New England by per capita income or some similar statistic. Old Greenwich is the middle class section of Greenwich. The real money is in the so-called back country part of Greenwich. Is the Feake-Ferris house located in both Greenwich and Dover, MA? Do they move it every few hours? Finally, Darien is pronounced DARE-ee-en, not like Maryann.

These are the places on Turtle Island that need a restoration, a return to balanced and level.. that it's cleansed of the crap that a disturbed and violent human species did to it. Allow the land to flourish.. with the lives of animals in their habitats, raising their families again. Return those monstrous dwellings back to Earth. Sweet Dreams. xo
