Thank you for these encouraging ideas! What a blessing this is for me to ponder as we start homeschool in a couple weeks.

I am such a simple mom too. All the stuff they do, even though my kids might be jealous, it’s okay. I love the breakfast idea. Going out to eat too.

Yes, I think my kids have heard rumors of the fancy first day celebrations and asked why we don't do that! They may be a bit jealous, too! 😂

No traditions here. 😅 I love taking things slow the first two weeks, working our way up to a full schedule, and getting back into the routine. It takes a bit before we find ourselves in full steam. Especially after a long break. Love all these ideas. 💕💕

I'm simple too! I added a "Reading Circle Time" or as homeschoolers call it Morning Basket time this year. It got them excited to start!

I also try to beef it up with experiments or drawings or some type of game.

Yes! The disappearing kid while I run to get a thing! Haha! So true! Or worse a mess gets made in my absence.
This year I'm going to put out all the supplies on the table and wrap a few of the games. I might hang a banner nothing crazy. I also want to wtite each one a note to start the year with affirmations. Cinnamon rolls for breakfast special and simple. 😉
I planned to start last week, but covid struck. Maybe next week will be better.
    Happy homeschooling! ❤

Yes, it really happens... And you're right, they make big messes! I love the idea of wrapping games and having notes for each kid! ❤️❤️ So sorry to hear Covid hit your family! Praying you all get better asap!

I think it is so amazing you are honest with yourself that it isn't your personality to do the big extras for the first day, instead of falling into the comparison trap. What works for one family isn't what works for all families. I often to need remind myself of that.
This year will be our 2nd year homeschooling and I am only keeping my oldest (10) home while my younger 3 (5, 6&6) are returning to the school system. I keep trying to think of fun things to do while still being "fair" to my 3 that aren't here. It is a hard balance.

That definitely sounds hard to balance going on the field trips/fun outings while your other kiddos are at school! I hope your year is going well so far!

no traditions here lol I am one of those who just doesnt have it in me to be creative lol I do plan for the start of the school year and remind them for about a week. We are on our 2nd week homeschooling this year and enjoying it. :) Thank you for popping in!

We definitely have a special breakfast. My son usually chooses donuts. I also start gradually moving his bedtime a couple of weeks before. He was used to staying up late in summer so we end the late nights 2 weeks before school.
We also don't start on Mondays. I have found starting on Wednesday gives a bit of a relaxed feel than stressful Mondays. We don't start all our subjects either. We started with 2 subjects. I let him pick his favorite subject to start.

Oh yes - I definitely need to work on the timing of bedtime too! Summer schedules definitely get bedtimes out of whack! I love the idea of starting mid-week as well! It makes it an easier bite-sized chunk that the kids can stomach! ❤️❤️

Awww, I love it! Enjoy this time with them! I wish I could go back and spend more time playing, exploring and on field trips at that age! It's so fun to see new experiences through their eyes!
