Hands-On Review: Denon DJ Prime Go System
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 окт 2024
- The Denon DJ Prime Go is an intriguing and fun new DJ addition to the company’s pro-focused Prime DJ gear range, which was launched today alongside the Prime 2. It’s a standalone, portable two-channel DJ system with a built-in computer, screen, battery, and WiFi music streaming.
I got some hands-on time with a unit at a Denon DJ press event, and this article and the accompanying video are my first, hands-on review. Expect a full review from us in due course.

I really think that Denon DJ are the only manufacturers who are moving things forward at the moment. Real innovators.
They're definitely setting the pace
Thanks.
Ben Holtam my heart wants this one!
DAVIDE STRAMBINO Conservo il silenzio interiore attraverso il rumore..
Denon is doing things other companies wouldn't dare and I love it
That is true - this is definitely a risky product but it's an instantly appealing one!
@@digitaldjtips using the loop and cue points won’t work correctly I don’t get it.... all this technology and you leave that out!!!!
I love it!! I've been wanting a DJ system that is portable and not needing a laptop just sealed the deal. Its all that i wanted, professional, portable, has all the knicks and knacks of a pro system with out sacrificing features. Battery powered for traveling or while your on the toilet. Can't wait!!
Looks like they've sold you one FermbizX...
Great comment mate! I'm up for toilet djing as well, I might start doing the GF baths more entertaining in the following months. Thinking of it as a private lounge performance.
I think this could be amazing for pub gigs where there's not a lot of space and you don't want to lug some behemoth around let alone a laptop. I play out using two mics, one to mic up percussion and one for voice, so if this incorporates 2 mic channels and 2 decks, I can actually see myself trading in my NI S4 MK3 ! - I don't particularly use jogs much other than to find cue points, so this is a much more effective use of space. If the build quality is up to scratch (unlike much of the Pioneer kit), I would seriously consider this for bar gigs.
Don't think you have anything to worry about re build quality.
OMG i want one of these. i do many small gigs. this is perfect. i wish it was 799
Just spend the grand...I love it.
Denon is now leaving everyone else in the dust
They're definitely making a statement :)
I'm very impressed by everything Denon has dropped this week.
Us too
i this is what people wanted Traktor to come out with.
what the S5 mk2 should be.
Yeah, I think you're right. There were rumours...
Perfect for home use to practice and small gigs . Impressed about denondj
I love it, you asked where to use it, I love to DJ on my boat, where space is always a problem, this controller would be perfect to DJ on a boat.
Great idea!
That’s nuts. I might well get one for when I’m travelling around and want to muck about on a train, practising, etc. If I can save up!
Sell some stuff ... ;)
Digital DJ Tips to paraphrase Popeye’s mate, Wimpy, I will gladly sell you my XDJ-RX2 in return for one of these and that sweet looking SC6000 setup you did the “first look” review on the other day (the problem being that I also want them!). Keep up the great work. Love your videos.
It's def great for backyard parties and smaller gigs...I'm df getting one
Nice!
Definitely! Small enough to cower with common umbrella if it starts raining. Portable... does it have blutooth to connect portable blutooth speakers? But even without them extremely vertisale portable all in one!
Great for any gig, whether it's the club, bar or wedding.
I’ve had the prime go for two years now it’s been used in big and small gigs it holds its own really well
Agreed, great little unit.
Think it would also be a perfect first controller for home DJ/music enthusiast, since the setup would take up a lot less space in the living room, wouldn’t require a laptop and can easily be moved to a different room or stoved away. It would be perfect for me!
Good point!
This is a professional unit in every sense of the word. This is not a toy. This would be at home in a club, bar, beach and even festival's.
@@tonykellydjt2805 Why not at a home? Many people have even more professional players and mixers or bigger standalone units in their home setup. But not everyone has space for it. Therefore the Prime Go is a good fit for this as well.
@@munkejens of course you can use this anywhere. Yes, there are people with disposable income that buy the most expensive devices to impress with. All I'm saying is that this is not a toy because its relatively small.
This + 2 Bose S1 Pros = Next Level Game Changer!
Nice 👌
Phil my comment to you on use case is linked to one of your statements when you reviewed the prime 4, something like have this in the corner of your living room as a device playing a playlist then just start DJing with it as and when, I purchased the full prime Sc5000m setup and it’s the best money I ever spent but loved the idea you gave me on the prime 4, the Prime go seems to be that ideal have it ready to go anytime, love the idea of preparing tracks on it, but take it out to the beach with a battery speaker and it another thing again.
Love all of what Denon DJ have done and your open honest approach to all Gear is refreshing in a modern commercial world. Thanks
Yeah it's definitely another good choice for exactly that. Now imagine if it had a speaker built in too...
Denon has no chill and I love it.
Lol :)
👏👏👏 Denon you've done it again... Pushing the boundaries of DJing... You've seen to cram in all/most of the features of the prime 2 and 4 , with the connectivity and portablity of the Denon MC6000 MK2 (minus 2 channels) . 🤔This unit is very tempting, but the price of entry ($999) is abit high to use it as a backup controller. I will be seriously looking at this...As for Pioneer I leave a quote from the great Delia Smith " Where are you...? Let's be having you..." 😁
Hopefully something from Pioneer to come soon :)
I think how things are in the world right now this is the way to go to keep safe from germs and show up with your gear to play. Has everything you need and NO LAPTOP NEEDED. Looks professional as hell!
Yeah it's a great little unit :)
Damn denon back it with those innovations
Killing it at the moment!
Cant tell for bedroom use that the Prime 2 or Prime 4 is worth it over the go.
Prime 2 probably worth it as easier layout for DJing.
@@digitaldjtips i come from 2000 nexus / 900 nexus mixer. Had to sell due to covid as wasnt financially sensible to keep but looking to get back into it.
Would be cool if it could also output the master via Bluetooth (I'm assuming it can only output from the wired outputs on the back?)
One for the Prime Go 2 ;)
Bluetooth is not a professional protocol. That's why you don't see it on most professional equipment.
ABSOLUTELY see myself using this as my main rig. I am primarily a wedding dj. Most of us carry a separate mixer for mics anyway,
Yeah it's a very cool idea :)
I assume that even though this is battery-powered, you COULD use it plugged in as well (kind of like a laptop)? If so, I could honestly see using this as a Wedding DJ. I am 52 years old and I'm always looking for ways to go with smaller, lighter gear. I'm on the fence about all-in-one vs a laptop because I guess I'm just used to using a laptop. I am intrigued by this unit. It might be worth a closer look.
Yes you can
I love your reviews because you show great products (almost all brands) and the way you talk! Thank you!
Thanks very much Alex!
If I had to venture a guess as to why you're saying logically you don't know when you would use it but your heart is saying you want it: With this unit you can bring it with you as a "just in case" and you'll always have some decks on the ready. I think every DJ has been in situations where the thought crossed their mind that they wished they had their decks available. Maybe it was just a small gathering and the mood was right, or you were at a house party and they were just playing a playlist, or you're at the beach and people have some speakers.
Just the fact that it lets you have an all in one, portable box that you can mix on at basically any time if you just bring it around with you is the allure you're feeling. Yeah you probably aren't going to throw down the most technical set you've ever done on this thing but for just mixing some tracks together it should be perfectly adequate.
Last winter I took a trip to Punta Cana with some friends and we had a portable speaker we would use at night on the beach. If we had one of these I would have 100% brought it out with us at night.
Yeah, a "just in case" (ie backup) is a very valid use case Weaver.
This is a professional grade unit. (not controller, it has a built in 4 core processor) You can do with this practically anything you would do with other pro equipment.
Denon have always been a massively innovative company who make really durable , high quality gear. They were first in the world with the all in one media player ,the Dn hd 2500, from 2007 and that's so damned good that many are still going strong today and they do mp3s and Wavs with ease. The unit you have here is perfect for today's over congested DJ booths . This looks superb bit of kit 👌👌
Nice one Isaac, Denon definitely deserve all the praise they're getting :)
Oh, it got batteries!!! This looks very tasty indeed.
Many years ago I had a Numark Idj2 which was also very small, (numark quality and performance) - lightweight.
I could ferry it on my bicycle and set up a sound system pretty much anywhere with a socket...
If I get one of these, I won`t need sockets anymore....
True!
This is a professional grade unit. Idj is a toy by comparison.
I think the mic e qs is the only thing stopping me buying this unit but if a update fixes this then I'm in thanks for all the advice and the great reviews david
It's not going to happen unfortunately, it's a hardware limitation.
I will be adding one of these to my armoury for beach days! :D
Beach and boat seem to be two use cases I didn't think of...
Im getting it. I plan to do a full set on Battery alone, from speakers to lights to DJ gear
Cool :)
This has got me well interested, with its size and feature set, looks like the ideal controller for when i get back into mobile djing.
We suspect quite a few mobile DJs will think the same.
Would definitely use this to prepare music while traveling. One feature I would love to see on the Prime series gear is the ability to use the wifi to purchase and download songs, not just stream them. This would eliminate the need for my dinosaur laptop completely :)
That would be awesome!
Denon: SC5000, X1800 & SC5000M
Pioneer:
Denon: Prime 4
Pioneer:
Denon: SC6000, SC6000M, X1850, Prime 2, Prime Go
Pioneer: 😪
Lol pioneers supposed answer to the prime 4 was the XDJ-RZ but it doesn't even compare
Also Pioneer: 6 channel mixer that absolutely nobody is asking for
Dj St3rling the new Pioneer is a beast of a mixer and perfect for the 5% of the DJ market it is aimed after. Not really meant for most of us DJ’s. I’m sure it they will make more releases soon but Denon / InMusic won NAMM 2020 by far. Pioneer has a long road ahead and real competition now.
@@MQParty I can agree with you on that.
Dennon is full changing the game, Pioneer will probably bring something out, that is twice the price, and less functional, that most will jump on.
I am a loyal Pioneer guy but Dennon are really changing the game.
I am getting one, battery powered is a massive feature portable small parties, DJ busking with a portable speaker is now completely possible.
Love the busking idea!
Prime 4 - best of the best , this little box so good for backup - or friends cal you & you don't want to take the prime 4 - because is only 30 guys with beer - so this so good way to go , your kids want dj system but you don't want to spent a lot of money.
Agreed!
This is not a toy, this is a pro grade unit capable of performing with the best. Clubs, bars, festivals.
How much?
Just bought this in Jan 2024, love it
You mean Jan 2023? 🤣
@@digitaldjtips Yes! lol
Perfect portability companion for my MPC live
Nice!
Great pro unit...picked one up already.
Awesome :)
I’m getting one. Wedding ceremony, cocktail and small gigs. And a great backup to my Prime 4
Nice!
Phil, now sc live 4 cost 1100, i play two times every week in a small club, which one recomend in this situation, prime go or sc live 4? Thanks, you are great
Prime Go is more professional
Thank you for your reviews and helpful info. I would absolutely use this. Here's why: I stream music on Twitch. Just me, my controller, and a little room. I only need two channels, I don't scratch, I would only use basic effects and a bit of looping just to prepare tracks. I want it because it's a standalone unit with a BIG SCREEN!
Yes, perfect use case!
Game changer!?..... professional outputs, however can the technics turntables be plugged straight into it?
It's certainly a very interesting product
It's an amazing unit for home studio.
A cool little controller for sure :)
I would definitly buy iy because< I can easily use it on the read inbetween gigs! The beauty of it all is that its like a micro XDJ, but with a 4 hour battery. WO!!! Thats the best feature. THANK YOU DENON DJ!!! and Because I don't have to pull out my laptop on the bus or the plane to practice my sets. I'm going to order one! Thank you Philly for the thorough review!
Such a cool new product from Denon, hope you have fun with it!
Love the look of it , I’m looking to start djing just for fun and this looks perfect for me .
Nice one, you'll have a lot of fun with this :)
Can you plug a iPad into it and use my files instead of a usb , I don’t have a laptop so all my music is on my files .
this is brilliant from denon although i think its a bit pricey but yeah i love it
I try Denons MC6000mk2 and I must say. What a finest component, portable and powerful with great sound!
Yeah it's awesome :)
Yup, buying. 2 mic inputs too! Love it.
Enjoy Michael :)
Do you think they'll ever make a prime go 2? With serato & engine DJ software
Don't know!
Phil, can you officially comment if it is a controller or just a stand alone unit only? Is there ANY announcement about it being compatible with Serato in the future ?
Not compatible with Serato in the foreseeable future, only the Prime 4
@@digitaldjtips thanks for the clarification
How do you charge the battery? Please let it be a micro USB port.
do you think they will upgrade the system to making it a 4 channel availability?
No I don't think so
Impressive. Yes I would buy it! Wish it had Serato.
Awesome :)
Got one a month ago. Levels is easy enough to work around, you can get it pretty accurate by ear in headphones / cue.
Small jogs do take a little getting used to but they do function extremely well and there's pitch bend +&- as well.
Touch screen is intuitive and responsive.
Sound quality is top notch ... Certainly better than Pioneer units at the price point as I've noticed Pioneer only seem to really push the boat out sound quality wise with their flagship models.
Battery is good for a solid 3 hours with screen brightness up, 4 hours easy if you are playing in a darker environment and then turn brightness down to increase battery life.
Plays all the standard formats.
Analysis on the fly, big point of difference versus Pioneer units that don't.
Buttons carry over from Denon Pro equipment, very hard wearing rubberized and should last for ages.
Overall I'm stoked with it and they have dropped in price lately. $500 - $1000 NZD cheaper than the initial release price which was $2500 here in NZ.
For a standalone, I wouldn't have any other brand as they can't analyse on the fly and the Denon makes it so easy for friends to just rock up with a USB or SD card of tracks and just plug in. 😊
Agree, this is an excellent unit and unique.
It’s so cute. Great job Denon.
It is pretty cute huh?
How many FX are there?

Goooo on denon im gonna buy next year
As an owner of the full Prime (x1800+SC5000s) setup, I have to say that this tiny Prime player is SUPER interesting... I bring my equipment with me for gigs all the time.. I have many times wanted to have a smaller, more portable option. This might be the exact product to have as a compliment to the bigger Prime setup. I think I'm in love! lol
Same comment I would have posted. Great add to the big decks. BUT the price is too high - my opinion. Should be around 700$.
James Piquette Totally agree! I’m thinking of switching to Denon to get this and your setup as a trade-up from my trusty XDJ-RX2. Bit pricey though when compared to the SC5000 and even the new 6000s.
It is really hard to put full build computer inside this kind of thing, with professional balanced output and get it cheaper. Just think how much it cost to buy desent laptop and a controller that has this good outputs... $500 to 1000 for laptop. And 600 for controller of this quality. It will be more expensive and not this portable!
If you are needing a system for a ceremony and your main system at reception site! How many mics?
Two
Yes, for weddings where I will provide mic and music for ceremony as well as cocktail and reception, I usually bring a small PA mixer, lapel mics and an iPad for ceremony Prime 4 is main ballroom and the cocktail is handled by the prime aux. this would replace iPad and PA mixer! Also a backup mixer Incase one goes down.
Not gonna lie; that is one sweet-looking box. I'm not in any hurry to get a new system at this point, as I bought the Pioneer S9 mixer and SX3 controller and will probably consider something after NAMM 2021. Me and my crew are deep into the Serato ecosystem (and some of them also into Rekordbox, and me also into Traktor), so moving over to new gear and a new software system is not going to be a small leap. That said, hats off to Denon for pushing things along. I'll be watching. Did I mention that the Prime Go is a sweet-looking box?!
Makes sense, if it ain't broke!
I really hope to see some more epic stuff from Numark too. I can tell that because Numark and Denon DJ are owned by the same company, there has been quite a few collaborative features on these new Denon products that have a Numark resemblance about them. I hope to see a mass domination world wide of Denon in pubs, clubs, festivals etc. and kick out Pioneer. The SC6000M looks epic! I haven’t had the chance to play around with one just yet but can’t wait to see how they feel between the CDJ2000NXS2 which is industry standard. The Denon Prime Go is an amazing unit to use and practice on to get used to the Prime software (coming from rekordbox) and an easy way to try out new sets and shows on the road and have new ideas of songs that might fit together and trying them out. So I do see celebrity DJs like Laidback Luke making very good use of the Prime Go while on tour. I also hope to see some incredible new stuff from Allen & Heath Xone from NAMM this year!
Definitely, I'm an NS7iii user and still very happy with it - hopefully some more higher end stuff coming from them!
Denon prime is the upper echelon of their companies. Numark is mostly midlevel.
where did you buy it? I've ordered one but canceled because they can deliver in april..
It doesn't appear to be available until March(ish) in the UK either
If you shut it off do you haft to go back and set the drivers and reset everything all over again or once you set everything up is it good to go even if you turn it off? That would be my last question before I purchase it.
Not sure what you're asking exactly, but I think the answer to your question is probably "no - don't worry!"
@@digitaldjtips one feature I’m looking for in a standalone controller is a talk over feature. Is there a talk over button on the prime go? If not, can you recommend a standalone with talk over feature the only one I found so far is the rane four thanks for your time
When I first saw it I didnt think much of it. I had been with Pioneer gear for many years and had a DDJ-XZ, a unit that I love but it is a giant. I just sold my XZ and bought now waiting for a Prime Go, after realising that it might do everything I need or at least most of it. It is a 180 degree change in direction but I only do live streams where blending nicely is all I really do, together with some samples that I can still play as tracks anyway. Other than that I have the odd occasion where I go out for a gig and the Prime Go will excel at being the easiest piece of gear to transport, specially for someone who is used to an XZ! I hope I made the right decision!
We still love ours, and use it regularly.
@@digitaldjtips got it this morning and I’m loving it!
I'm currently waiting for a deal on this. Would take it on my trips around BC, and just connect it to my Elac Navis speakers via balanced cables to get great sound while I'm djing. Love it.
We love it as well!
I feel like this is one of them products that Denon built just for the sake of building it. There really isn’t a target market for this. At this price range it’s not an entry level controller and at this size it’s not something you can use in a professional environment. Not sure where this is going to sit within the market but really excited for all this innovation going on at the moment within the industry!
I know what you're saying though I don't agree that the size makes it unsuitable for Pro environments, Phil said straight away that he loved it but had no idea what he would use it for - I imagine many will think the same thing lol As you say it's fantastic to see the innovation coming from Denon
This is going to be mine, including the SC6000M’s with the rotary platter. Preparing sets without opening the laptop. I like hardware that makes the laptop obsolete.
Nice one Maarten :)
Perfect for djing out of my Car! im gonna get this!
Nice 👍
As for me I'm looking to spread out from a DJ 202 to a Denon MC7000. It's too small. But for a traveling professional DJ artist I can see where it would be an awesome tool to have. I'm like you though, the gearhead in me says "I want one!" , But my next purchase will be the 7000. I want the room and my large laptop screen.
The 7000 is a great choice
This is nice and so are the Prime 2 and 4, but I don't mind taking my laptop and controller to my events.
Fair enough Steve!
I found ditching the laptop to be quite liberating. The plug and play nature of all in ones is great, and if you've ever had laptop issues ruin a set then removing another potential point of failure is reassuring.
My RX2 is a fantastic workhorse, although I'd be tempted by the prime 2 if I was buying now. The main turn off for the prime 2 is the lack of external inputs, as that's a feature I use quite regularly on the RX2
I love it, I can bring to the beach along with my boombox and have a mix, happy daze, well done denon.
Awesome :)
I really want to know if the battery will be user replaceable, because otherwise this feels like i tdd would be pretty pointless after a year or two and it has a battery that won't hold a charge. Would love to have this and one of those 160watt rechargeable speakers by Rave. Party anywhere!
Not sure at this stage, but I guess it would be "dealer replaceable" for sure.
I want one but does it run with Serato or Rekordbox? I use Serato. Is there any way to transfer music from Serato to Rekordbox while keeping all my cue points or would I have to put them in all over again?
Yes, using Rekordbuddy: next.audio/ :)
Very interesting.. wanne buy.. :-) But, the manual tells this: "Note: The Auxiliary input signal is only sent to the Master Outputs." Does this mean the the aux input is excluded on the Booth output? hopefully not.. :-(
Interesting, would need to check - where have you found the manual?
@@digitaldjtips Hi, would be great if you could check this.. I think this is the link.. let me know if you're having troubles downloading it. ;-) www.bax-shop.nl/index3.php?option=com_download_files&product_id=594548&download_id=82984

Have a question about the Prime GO.
What happen after the battery dead. If my Gig is over 7 hrs.
Can i Still using when is Charing. Just plug on the wall and IT Will work during charging
Thanks
You can use it plugged in as well
LED screen on background is very cool!!!!
lol, true.
I have a PDJ aka "Monster GoDJ". For me, this reminded me of their bigger GoDJ Plus. I can definitely see many more features in Denon DJ Prime Go System (e.g. Key)
This is a pro grade unit, not a toy.
The processor in this device is mac/pc level. Godj is a beginners device by comparison.
@@tonykellydjt2805 , the Monster GoDJ was launched back in 2012. Of course there is definitely more things a 2020 device such as Denon DJ Prime Go System can do.
What to use it for? Burning Man. That looks like the ultimate off the grid festival controller.
Good point!
Has this little gem got bluetooth connectivity for connecting to Bluetooth speakers and headphones, please?
Nope but the latency would be an issue anyway
This is being added to my outdoor event rig! Going totally wireless!!
Cool!
I will get on when they bring the price down. As a mobile DJ I will use as a back up.
What would be a fair price to you? :)
Can you record your mix sets on this unit?
will it work with serato dj Pro and laptop if you wanted to?
No
Who is for? Simple answer. Everyone. Denon's Prime Go offers so much flexibility that I can see it being used on every scenario a DJ would need; from studio, to the main stage, and all the moving in between. It's also a little beast that is great for beginners and experts alike. This machine fits in any studio set up no matter how big or small, and it's gotten all the professional tools needed for a live performance. Think about how great it would be carrying this little thing to your buddy's studio for some collaboration, or how convenient this is for when you're invited to a radio station. Same for an impromptu performance in a club, when the resident DJ is feeling the energy to share the booth with you; and do not forget it would be fantastic for auditions, content creation, and so on. The possibilities are huge.
Nice summary, Denon should give you a job!
which sd card you are using? What type of SD card do I need?
We use SanDisk SDXC cards.
Very cute. The problem with the Denon standalone stuff is their software which I really can't be bothered with. Can we maybe expect an update on the super weird and outdated MC-4000 anytime soon?
Your guess is as good as ours Nick
can working without laptop??
I’m curious how you can integrate your Serato crates with this... I’ve been using serato for 10 years but more gigs now just require you to show up with a USB stick. This set up would have value.
You can import your crates into Engine software on a laptop, then export to USB.
@@digitaldjtips Great. Thank you!
Denon is filling a great niche here in the DJ market and this device absolutely has a "wanna have" factor. There's only one problem though, at 1000 euro/dollar the price is just too steep. Especially when you're only going to use it as a back-up/travel device.
We suspect many people will want to see this at the $799 mark, too.
It is cheap considering you don`t need laptop at all!
@@haukionkannel You still want a laptop to fill, manage, sync your library and do all the other stuff on a trip that this device really can't do, like general media consumption and (music) productivity. So really no argument there. The idea that you just buy this device without ever needing a laptop in your life is just a myth.
Hello! Can you record your set with this thing (Prime Go)? Like, for example, doing a set on a plane.
Yes
@@digitaldjtips One more thing: Does it has a drive? What's the capacity on it?
No it doesn't
@@digitaldjtips Ok, so if I want to record the set, I can record either on USB or SD (even if they are in use)?
Not sure on the specifics but yes you record to the SD or USB, we'll check it out when we get one into the studio :)
Denon should make a dj controller similar to that with a built in speaker so it is a truly stand alone setup. The built in battery is great but you need to be next to an outlet anyway for the speaker.
Would be a cool product :)
Not really with the wireless speaker setups available. I use a battery powered mic transmitter and receiver for zone out all the time.
Ever hear of speakers with rechargeable batteries???
wish there was a 4 channel version
Maybe a mk2
I really like the idea behind this little device... but for this money I am not sure If picked this over an RX1 or even RX2. Maybe if the prices go lower... closer to 500-600-ish. But for mobile DJs it can be a good option. Great to have a built in battery as well. :)
Yeah it's an interesting little thing for sure, will be interesting to see who picks them up
its a good looking controller with a lot of bells and whistles. My only complaint and I know due to its size this cannot be helped.
Having the eq knobs in the normal position would be a must if you introducing this to new users unless this gets advertised for bedroom users and just guys and gals wanting to mess around. just my two cents . great looking portable device
Thanks for watching and adding your thoughts :)
This is a professional unit. The position of the knobs don't matter when you play like a pro.
@@tonykellydjt2805 agree to disagree ...Different strokes for different folks I guess,
Will it play wav files just dumped onto an SD card, or do I need to use proprietary software to prepare the SD card for use in the controller?
Yes, it will - although it is best to prepare them ahead of time on Engine Prime software on a laptop.
I Wish it had two phono/line inputs, stick that in between two technics and you would have the perfect solution for going back and forth from vinyl to digital. Yes you could do it with the prime 4 but that places the turntables far apart so mixing a set of just vinyl is cumbersome.
Can't have everything I guess, maybe on a MK2!
Does it have the built in SSD dock like the bigger bro?
Has a single USB slot plus a computer USB socket at the back, and an SD card slot on the front, although no HDD drive bay like the other units
this unit has about all the features I wanted in the past. standalone, doesn't need power (this one is something that I couldn't imagine, I'd have gone with usb powered deck), and small size (dunno if it's small enough, but I use decks that go into a standard laptop case instead of laptop and current small laptop goes to some pocket or such.
I used to play a lot outside on the beach with battery powered speaker and laptop. hanging around with people. I haven't done that much anymore, but it seems like a perfect device for such use. There's also this current bloom of battery powered speakers (we used DIY) so I can see someone using this, although the market isn't big and there's still cheap alternatives with laptop power available. dunno if I'd pay 1000e for this instead of that Hercules dj control air that costs maybe under 100e. It could get rainy or there's some skit falling down from trees or some hippie does a backflip on top of your controller. you don't want that stuff happening around 1000e controller.
I'd still take a controller that uses tablet as a screen rather than this. It's kinda silly how no one has taken the benefit of tablets during these 10 years. everyone had a big screen tablet in their home that you can use to just stream interface. it would take the price down and would give most of the features that this sort of build has. Pioneer had some sort of use for these, but it didn't go all the way with standalone and battery power and the unit I bought didn't work that well with the tablet.
I might buy this if I find one a lot cheaper, but at current price I pass. I still have Hercules RMX2 that does most of the things I need and DJ Control Air that barely works because of heavy use, but works enough for playing on the beach.
Definitely some fair points, it'll be awesome for the right user and there's certainly a lot of options out there these days
