  • @peakestmelt
    @peakestmelt 6 дней назад +42

    That has to be one of the greatest games I've ever watched as an Arsenal fan, the way the team finally put City to the sword was such a joy to behold. Especially after the equaliser, in times gone by we would've panicked and lost a game we deserved to win but the team were just outstanding in the way they came back. To get the early goal, for MLS and Ethan to both score, Havertz to bury one after the miss, Raya making a couple of great saves and everyone performing at an 8/10 or above was incredible. Nearly shed a tear when North London Forever came on at the end. Hopefully this can be the springboard to finish the season strong, roll on Newcastle - COYG!!!

    Your point about a classic 9 not necessarily getting into the team ahead of Havertz is spot on. This team is so dynamic, it will take a real workhorse striker (à la Jesus pre- current injury!) to get in ahead of Kai.

    Kai Havertz is consistently the most over hated player in the league. I’m tired of it. His finishing could be better, sure. But the rest of his game is so tantamount to our success on the pitch. Completely agree with your point on an Ollie Watkins-like striker. Not sure if he’d start over Kai. Hes been so important for us over 1.5 seasons. Trust Arteta knows ball, Gooners.

    • @G00N3R7883
      @G00N3R7883 5 дней назад +1

      Gary Neville went into this game with a predetermined narrative about "Havertz is lacking confidence" and absolutely made sure he was going to push the narrative. I found the critisism of Havertz assist on the first goal just bizarre. "A confident striker takes the chance himself!!!". Who cares? Havertz pass took the keeper out of the game and left Odegaard with a tap in. Sure, Havertz should have made it 2-0, and it was a bad miss. But he got a goal later and I couldn't have been happier. I actually screamed at the TV "is he still lacking confidence Gary Neville?" 😀

    Arsenal can get best striker in the world. Havertz will still play.That run for his goal completely destroyed those 2 City defenders. They just didn't anticipate he could just run behind Martinelli and pop outside instead running to the middle, into them. Very smart player, and his movement both offensively and defensively is a proof of it.
    If he gets his finishing right, and he's only 25 and not in his prime yet, he could become scary. But even if he doesn't he still a very, very good footballer all-around.
    33 games and 20 G/A is nothing to sniff at either. Same as Watkins funnily enough, and yet Watkins is seen as a superior player.

    I'm buzzing....that was an all-time performance. I was a bit nervous that we drew with City just before their string of bad results and were getting them just as they were hitting some decent form but that was an absolute mauling. Only the second time a Pep team has conceded 5 and no shot after their equaliser. The whole team (and the manager) were superb.

    I think people forget sometimes what physical and mental pressure Kai Havertz has been under over the last 2 seasons, this bloke has even out worked Martin Odegaard, which is saying something, so its not surprising that his goal scoring record has suffered this season..... is there a player at A) our club and B) in the league that has played as many minutes and/or worked as hard as Kai Havertz has?? I'm not sure there is......
    We'd all love him to score more and hopefully, him scoring a fantastic goal v City, will give him the confidence to kick on and bury some more for us!!!

    Let's not get carried away with Havertz. That first half chance could have been the game. We absolutely need a far more clinical striker. Getting the 4th goal on the break against an already beaten side did not make up for the miss.
    You said it yourself on the podcast a couple of weeks ago - there will be times over the remainder of the season when these forwards will get a few goals but they've already shown us who they are.
    We must get a more instinctive goal scorer.
