    I’ve canoed up to those granite stones from Barton Springs. Daddy and Granny paid $25k cash for 1418 Gaston Ave in 1947 now a million dollar home! Austin during my time there was magical but I left in 1985 and wouldn’t wanna live there anymore.

    The city could have been moved away from the flood area

    Mansfield Dam for Lake Travis was completed in 1942. That is the dam that protects Austin from floods. Without that lakes ability to hold entire flood event, Tom Miller dam would have washed away by January 1991. This drizzle from KVUE is a definite fluff piece. We deserve better is local reporting.

    One of the few cities in the US with its own power company? What do you mean by few? I'm in a city in CA that has its own power company. There are a number of other cities in CA that have their own power company including Sacramento. Best part of my city is the $0.11/kWHr rate, about 1/2 - 2/3 less than the public companies in CA.

    These dams have also ruined the natural habitats that relied on the flood waters for soils, nutrients, and natural irrigation. Now every home in the U.S. just about uses a non native very invasive grass for their yards that uses to much water.

    The Colorado River must have done something real bad to be dammed.

    The hood was west downtown back then most people don't know that. Pushed to other side of the new I-35 and then pushed again with gentrification, Yup Austin is still Austin. 🤷‍♂️

      They're still trying to get the rest of us out of there but we won't go. My grandparents purchased our home in 1917 for $2500.

    Are we to understand that Texas is so special that y'all have your own Colorado River that you have the audacity to call *the* Colorado River?

    • @RobertRidout-ub2cu
      @RobertRidout-ub2cu 24 дня назад +7

      Actually it was named by the Spanish explorers before the other Colorado River was discovered.

      ...and the other Colorado River, where it runs through the state of Colorado, wasn't even named "Colorado" until it was renamed by an act of Congress in 1921.
