Dude, I love that you called a spade a spade. It’s an incredible production rig. That said, I love the simplicity of my C70 rig and I try to influence in my inner circle of young Sony shooters that I can to switch, either way; everybody has their own sauce they love. And it’s all about getting paid to do what we love with a Gear we have. 🙌🏼
I agree on the dummy battery tip, however I run my setup with usb pmd power. Only downside is side is yes you still need a Sony battery in it which is not really a down side but I wish I had a cable clamp for the usb C portion like I do with HDMi. Solid setup . Love the ND ring !!!
Nice build! I noticed you said "Tilta Half Cage", though you're definitely holding the SmallRig half cage. Probably force of habit... "Tilta" is ubiquitous.
Hey bro sick video ! Loved the in depth ness to this and the breakdown 😊 Quick question does that Smallrig baseplate just slot on the the Tilta cage just like that ? I have the full cage with that little QR plate on it does the small rig base plate slide on that or ? I’m just new to rigging so I’m struggling a little Thanks mate !!
One thing that is racking my brain is, how do you get that less digital ‘cinematic’ soft look like the Sony Venice and or Arri produces out of the FX3 without any filters? I currently use the black satin 1/4 which really helps but I’m wondering are you producing that look and feel in the edit alone plus of course using soft light?
A combination of everything. Lensing will help the most, vintage lenses with some light filtration does a ton. Some post work with a colourist helps too, if you can add some softening / blooming in post. Definitely start with lensing though.
@@TenfoldProductionthanks for the reply bud. I’ve been using Dehancer which really helps but just though there may be a cheeky cheat/shortcut to getting it in camera. Will defo try some vintage lens. 👍🏽🤟🏽
Damn dude, what a beastly rig!! Totally relate to what you were saying about how shopping around for camera gear can get addicting. I spent a ton of time researching before buying my first camera (Sony ZV-1), and still occasionally find myself looking around. But the truth is, gear hardly matters. And sometimes, more gear more problems 😝 I actually ended up getting some cheap third party batteries for my ZV-1 and luckily they have been fine, but not sure if I would put third party batteries or a dummy battery in camera over 1k cost, let alone 4k+ 😜 Looking forward to see what you guys end up posting~ :)
Super modest energy. 0 high stepping. Great video. Cameras are my “precious” and rigging them out is my Lego’s. I need them look as good as they function. My word is sexy. I show up and they say damn… that’s sexy. Yes it’s a tool and all of that but sexy. This rig gets the sexy stamp!!! Dude there is no link for the VND… please a little more info. I have the revolver for the komodo and would love to know more about those nd’s. Great video.
the closest Small Rig Arca-Swiss quick release I could find as on Amazon US right now (late March 2024) is the 4234. But I'm sure other brands would be fine, too.
hey man! nice rig. I was considering the ND adapter for my Canon FD lenses. Any drawbacks to using these? No noticeable loss in quality? Thanks in advance!
Hey great vid :-) Was wondering how you power your fx3.. through usb-c? Any problems powering 2 interconnected devices with the same battery? (via hdmi?) Thanks!
Hey! Just had a quick question, i have a 13400 mAh with 190Wh v mount battery, i just wanted to ask to see if i can use this v battery safely with sony fx3 with dummy to d tap cable???
I've been looking for alternative ways of powering the FX3 and I saw some setups that use a usb-pd that sends 9v 2a to the camera which is the recommended power as described in the FX3 manual (9v 2/3 amps) through the USB c input on the camera. There's even batteries and v mounts with a USB pd outout. Is that something you would recommend? I've been using a USB c method that only has 5v, and even though it charges the camera battery, the battery still drains (although a lot slower). Just wondering what your thoughts were.
Yeah i even talked directly to sony germany and they dont have a real solution to that. I power mine through a v-mount plate with a 8v pin output to a dummy battery. It works, but i would love a usb c pd solution so i dont have to shut down the camera every battery change (and it always displays a "not original sony battery" warning wich pops up after 15 seconds). The only thing i could find is a pd adapter from tether tools, but it is cumbersome to rig it in a nicely manner, as it has no mounting options (u could use velcro). I hope some one comes up with a d-tap to usb c adapter that has good mounting options.
Nice video, appreciate all the detail, although I wish you’d have mentioned what cable you’re using to power the camera from the v-mount after talking about the dangers of frying your camera. Are you not using a dummy battery to d-tap to power from the v-mount???
This the type of dude to come to set with all sorts of good energy and work ethic!

Your handle setup makes so much sense. Thanks for the insight. Def going to try that out
Insane. I have no plans to get this camera but the presentation and information is great for any rig. This is awesome!
Great tip on the dummy battery, thanks!

Smallrig sells a dual cable clamp I put on cage that holds my USB C and HDMI cable (also use HDMI clamp on cage) but keeps them tidy and out of way.
Nice build! I noticed you said "Tilta Half Cage", though you're definitely holding the SmallRig half cage. Probably force of habit... "Tilta" is ubiquitous.
I was going to mention the same thing.
Great lookin rig! 📽
Thank you! Great video! Nice looking rig!
With that right wooden handle positioned there.. do you find it difficult to adjust the iris dial?
ZITAY is the only brand that makes voltage regulated Dummy batteries, I've used it on my FX3 for over a year and change and haven't had a single issue
Nice rig, nice video 😎👌🏼
It’s the SmallRig Cage, not the one from Tilta.
Keep it up!
Haha I came here to mention! 😂

What do you use to power the camera do you use d tap to usb c?
We use usbc from the v mount battery with a usb to usb c cable

Great video.
Lovely rig. Do you power the canera with a d-tap to usb?
what's the Arca Swiss Quick Release in video? you listed a different one in the description
It's the smallrig quick (2144B) release one.
Oh good catch. I was going through the links and scratching my head lol.

Bier nice build but isn’t that the smallrig cage?
How did you achieve those colours (at 1:32). Looks amazing!
You should do a video on your Nikon cine mod set!
thanks man!! question, what are options for memory for the FX3?
hey man! nice rig. I was considering the ND adapter for my Canon FD lenses. Any drawbacks to using these? No noticeable loss in quality? Thanks in advance!
I dont need V mount battery, no need for pull focus, no need for Matt Box, what is the best rig?
Hey great vid :-) Was wondering how you power your fx3.. through usb-c? Any problems powering 2 interconnected devices with the same battery? (via hdmi?) Thanks!
Hey nice rig! What would you suggest powering the FX3 correctly without frying the camera? @Tenfold Production
Using a v mount battery, you can power the FX3 via USB while keeping one Sony battery inside the camera.
Do you go HDMI Out from Monitor > HDMI In Teradek?
if you dont use a dummy battery then what do you use?
usb-c.
2:16 Tilta? It looks like Smallrig
Which hollyland tx/rx do you own for yourself? I’m torn between Mars 400s Pro and accesoon CineEye 2s pro so I’d like to hear your opinion about it.
@@TenfoldProduction thanks! I’ll definitely check in Mars!!
So you dont power your fx3 with vmount?
Hey tenfold, do you recommend the nike cine lenses over like slr microprimes or dzo vespids?
@@TenfoldProduction wordd, yeah man the dzo’s are in my view as well. Thanks for the knowledge brotha

@@TenfoldProduction thank you very much for the useful information and your help! Much appreciated!!
What cable or dummy battery do you recommend to power the camera ?
@@TenfoldProduction Oh ight, I been thinking bout just powering it via usb c wit a Sony battery inside
Dude, sick rig! How's the vnd throttle and color shifting?
so how do you power the camera itself ? I fried my a7siii cost me 1600$ to fix
@@TenfoldProduction What about power camera by usb -c ?

IndiPro Tools sells D-tap Dummys with a regulator that limits the input before it goes to the camera. They're $75, but they are reliable.
@@djrt8179 thanks! I had one for my a7sii and never gave me any problems.
Bro 😎 very nice

2:14 it’s a SmallRig half cage 3278 🤣
The camera is out of focus when you're talking. Too much aperture on that. Despite of that, nice info :)
Would not agree for low level
Few theater big production films has used this camera
Plus Netflix approved, it won't be if its low level
that's clearly the small rig half cage not the tilta full cage
