I think this song is about a college dorm and one of the members, a freshman at the time, reflecting on the pain caused by a girl who lived on the fourth floor of a dorm named "Townsend", which is the name of a building at Illinois State University. The writer is losing sleep from being torn up on the inside over the girl he loves because she has another guy in her bed, therefore she is hooking up all night and not "getting much" sleep, hence the line "I don't sleep anymore, knowing you're not getting much". Another line to note is "Last December only made me feel more alone". December is when winter break begins for most American universities. They probably split up before the break started leaving him feel alone during that time period. Kevin or John likely wrote it being they are the only ones in the band who attended college, at least in KP interviews they are the only ones who mention going to college.
LYRICS: You fucked me up and left me hanging from the bottom rung And now my wrists are sore, these hands no good for anyone So now I'm trying to make it through my first June without you Without you I can't feel anything past these broken bones And this last December only made me feel more alone (Don't come home) I'm not saying you're something that's stuck in my head Cause it takes more than a thorn to keep me out of the garden I spent three summers here with my eyes open wide But now everything has crumbled along with your spine It's more apathy than anything anymore And less of where I'm standing at your front door Begging that you let me in So go cry to your father in hopes that I'll unwrite these songs about his daughter I can't feel anything past these broken bones And this last December only made me feel more alone (Don't come home) I'm not saying you're something that's stuck in my head Cause it takes more than a thorn to keep me out of the garden I don't sleep anymore Knowing you're not getting much On the fourth floor of Townsend On the fourth floor of Townsend [x2] I don't sleep anymore (Don't come home, don't come home) Knowing you're not getting much On the fourth floor of Townsend (Don't come home, don't come home) On the fourth floor of Townsend (And you're a little too close to home) I don't sleep anymore (Don't come home, don't come home) Knowing you're not getting much (And you're a little too close to home) On the fourth floor of Townsend (Don't come home, don't come home) On the fourth floor of Townsend I can't feel anything past these broken bones And this last December only made me feel more alone (Don't come home) I'm not saying you're something that's stuck in my head Cause it takes more than a thorn to keep me out of the garden
One of the best, if not, the best Knuckle Puck track. It’s executed flawlessly. It’s got so much damn catchiness. Love this band and all their music is the SHIT.
They played this entire EP w/townsend and dead wrong, along with the weight that you buried EP around the time you posted this comment. Lol It was at their 2017 anniversary holiday show w Real friends in which they played maybe this place is the same album and their put yourself back together EP I was lucky enough to catch both nights. It was so much fun.
My guess is Townsend was originally an unreleased demo off their debut EP (maybe they didn't have the money to record/produce it?) and I think they later just recorded/re-recorded it and released it under the album it was originally planned to be on. Cause this sounds like a newer recording than the rest of material on Don't Come Home. idk
+Георгий Кругликов It's the name of one of the buildings at the University of Illinois. Where probably some of the band members went or started school.

LYRICS:
You fucked me up and left me hanging from the bottom rung
And now my wrists are sore, these hands no good for anyone
So now I'm trying to make it through my first June without you
Without you
I can't feel anything past these broken bones
And this last December only made me feel more alone (Don't come home)
I'm not saying you're something that's stuck in my head
Cause it takes more than a thorn to keep me out of the garden
I spent three summers here with my eyes open wide
But now everything has crumbled along with your spine
It's more apathy than anything anymore
And less of where I'm standing at your front door
Begging that you let me in
So go cry to your father in hopes that I'll unwrite these songs about his daughter
I can't feel anything past these broken bones
And this last December only made me feel more alone (Don't come home)
I'm not saying you're something that's stuck in my head
Cause it takes more than a thorn to keep me out of the garden
I don't sleep anymore
Knowing you're not getting much
On the fourth floor of Townsend
On the fourth floor of Townsend
[x2]
I don't sleep anymore (Don't come home, don't come home)
Knowing you're not getting much
On the fourth floor of Townsend (Don't come home, don't come home)
On the fourth floor of Townsend
(And you're a little too close to home)
I don't sleep anymore (Don't come home, don't come home)
Knowing you're not getting much
(And you're a little too close to home)
On the fourth floor of Townsend (Don't come home, don't come home)
On the fourth floor of Townsend
I can't feel anything past these broken bones
And this last December only made me feel more alone (Don't come home)
I'm not saying you're something that's stuck in my head
Cause it takes more than a thorn to keep me out of the garden
Props 👌👌🙏
