The thing about the Excel II, those torpedoes are extreme rapid fire. I mean RAPID!!! If the firing rate of those torps were more like those of most ships, the Excel II would have a harder time in a fight.
Yeah the Excelsior II is definitely a ship not to trifle with. Especially against a Galaxy Class. I mean Raffi said, "Enterprise-D? What's left of that thing is ancient." I agree that was an execution for the Galaxy Class when you were in the Excelsior II.
Ooof hard fought battles. The Excelsior II seems a bit OG though and may need to be nerfed a bit; that was nearly a constant stream of photons and quantums. Getting close, dropping an aspect angle of their shields, and component targeting with low intensity phasers would have served you better in the Galaxy.
Unfortunately I've never seen a Ross class mod in any videos. I feel like a doubling of fusion reactors, shield upgrade, and increased torpedo tubes would reasonably compensate for deficiencies against newer vessels. Of course I thought the saucer needed nacelles and small warp engine like that top part of prometheus.
There is no Ross Class sadly. There are a few ships that come close to it, as in upgraded Galaxy Classes, but we've never had the 100% version.. not yet anyway. Hopefully at some point in the future 🖖

I have a silly question. Are some torpedoes better at taking down shields while others are better at doing damage? It almost seems like sometimes one ship will struggle to get through the shields, then once they have, the other ship is just gone. Other times, the shields go down quickly, then it takes forever to actually finish the target off.
The problem with Bridge Commander is yes the torpedoes are all different. The Excelsior II's are highly Advanced and devastating. More devastating than the Galaxy's. Another factor is Ablative Armour, some ships have this and others don't. It really makes a difference in a battle when your shields have gone. 🖖

Yes! I know... the trouble was the Berlin Class was very weak. However I have seen a more powerful version on a video and will try and get hold of it :-)
I thought the technology gap would give Excelsior a win with about half the hull left. Must not have accounted for the ripple-fire fast/accurate torpedo daisy chains.
One thing I would have liked to see in either tng or ds9 would be a combat variation of the galaxy with all those star drive windows armored over with ablative armor. We all saw how easy the borg.sliced the star drive and when the cleavage sisters attacked her in generations how easy the core took damage. I'd love to see a mod like that with no windows armored up to the teeth
Even a Dominion War refit is pretty old. The Excelsior II is a heavy cruiser. Unless the Galaxy Class has new torpedoes to go with Quantums it is overmatched. I still think you can win, but you really have to focus on a single shield front and take out a sub-system. Perhaps lower phaser strength so you can get faster reload on your torpedoes.
Some body needs to do a Galaxy class refit with a refit to shields and weapons array minimum requirements to defeat that ship . Though if you could give the Galaxy class stronger shields that go miles

So, if the Galaxy class was also upgraded with early 25th century tech (much like the Excelsior II has been designed with it in mind), then its likely they would either be comparable, or the Galaxy would have beaten it soundly. Otherwise, yeah, the Excelsior II would indeed make quick work of a Galaxy class that has 20 years old tech (arguably quicker than this).
At the rate the Excellsior can fire torpedoes, I wonder if it would be a good match for the Scimatar. Also, have you already tried a Federation starbase against DS9 or can that be done?
I have done a battle between the Excelsior II and Scimitar. Yes, with the Starbases the game places them quite far apart. Basically they shoot at each other constantly and nothing happens,lol.
They are true Regenerative shields from the looks of it. Also, it has the ability to re-distribute its shields which it seemed to do. So even though it plugged the gap, it weakened the other sides. Not all ships can do this yet, bit it's such a neat feature.

Request: Earth-Minbari War (Babylon 5 mod pack 1.2.0 or 1.2.1), try to see how many Earth Alliance ships of the war-era (Hyperions and Novas + Starfuries) are required to destroy a small Minbari fleet :P
If any existing ship class deserved to be the Enterprise G it would have been the Excelsior II. This is not to say that the neo constitution is poorly designed, I just do not think it is up to the task. Also do not bring up that 100 year old waterlogged cloaking device. Star Fleet Security and Intelligence would not have left that on the hms bounty as it would be a security risk to leave it.

That's an awesome idea and makes a lot of sense. It's obvious that's the way Starfleet tech was going. At least according to Voyager.

Try enhancing your sensors and maybe your torpedoes would hit. I am actually quite surprised you missed that since usually your tactically savvy.
