Thank you for your message! You can use it without the metallic cap (the most difficult part), but the soldering iron's life will be very short, because the graphite is not a very resistant material.

First of all, I'm struggling to even come up with the words to describe how absolutely useless unnecessary ignorant boring and pointless your post is. What would possess you to even think let alone actually follow through with it to come on this man's video go to the comment section and spew off some nonsense about a 5 volt novelty pencil soldering tool looks dangerous to you and you chop your fingers off as if it has any sort of usefulness or relevance is beyond me seriously dude and then to go on and tell people to just buy one and to make that even worse you follow up with a comment about some stupid old saying that doesn't even apply talking about a fire hazard. How do you not realize that that contributes absolutely nothing it makes you look like a complete dick. Of all the f****** videos or whatever else you could troll on the internet this is what you decide to do you suck man. That's really about all it boils down to shame on you for making me have to f****** read that unswivel my head say a prayer for mankind I hope you don't have kids or coach kids or teach anybody anything or talk a lot to anybody about anything cuz it probably is just terrible all right I'm done here you suck man seriously thanks for the video bro

As I explained, this soldering iron can be used only for a limited time. If you look closely at the video, you'll see that the wood starts to burn, because of the high temperature. This is an educational project and the soldering iron can be used when you're in a hurry, and you need to solder some electronics.
