    This has really helped me I feel more confident` when re-taking my exam in May-June 2016. I did watch your video's during yr 11 2015 but the last few months so I have decided that I would start early this year to gain my C as I only got a D last year but I have great determination to get my C because there are only 10 marks between a C and a D and my target grade wad a G so I did really well, so I could've been 1 mark off a C grade, I really appreciate what you are doing to help students all over the country. I bet you have great pleasure in the comments you get from your own actual students when you have taught them in the lesson and they have watched the videos and they get C's you must feel really happy, that your hard work ha had a brilliant outcome.
    Thanks explaining all of the different topics to make it easy to understand what you actually have to do and how you approach different questions on the same topic.
    I am so grateful that there is someone that can explain maths like you, would you link some FOUNDATION videos below please as I'm taking foundation and I didn't realise that this video was for the HIGHER paper.

      Hi thank you for making this video, it has helped a lot. However, I have a question about the 1st exam question 17(b) the answer was 3x+6y but the question asked for it to me in the simplest form so wouldn't it be x+2y as you divide it all be 3. To get the final answer?

    • @austinkingsley
      @austinkingsley 7 лет назад

      AMRIT BAINS No, you can't just simply like that in algebra. If there was a fraction 3/6 it could be simplified to 1/2 but you can't simply algebraic values like that. Think about 2x + 2y, you can't simply that to get x + y as it would completely half the result. Hope this helps!

    Just taken my National 4 maths and looked ahead at National 5 (wondering if I could crush in an online course before the May exam) - that's when I saw vectors, laughed, and thought "What are those?"
    I could work out the column vectors fine (except the ones on the past paper I have here have 3 figures per column instead of 2, another axis I'm guessing), but the questions on parallelograms were well beyond me. Much, much clearer now. Many thanks!!

    You make a decision. You can do either way you want and you will get the same answer.
    E.g. if AB you need to use b-a and it BA use a-b. If you stay consistent with the direction you chose you will get the same answer.
    However given in this question you want AP (start at A) it is easier to use AB as that one starts at A not B (BA starts at B)

    Pythagoras. you square the two shorter sides and add them and then square root to get the hypotenuse. So 3^2+4^2 = 25 and then square root 25 to get 5. Hope helps

    you can add in any order. If i said what is -2 + 6 that is the same as swapping the numbers around (addition is said to be commutative) and working out 6 + -2 and 6 + -2 is the same as 6 - 2. Therefore -a + b = b + -a = b - a - hope this helps

    For Exam Q2, 19 (a)
    Could you express the answer in a Mixed Number rather than a Top-heavy fraction?
    So it would be from 3/2s > 1 1/2 s

    for the first example question part (a), what would you write to sum up what you said?

  • @HEGARTYMATHS
    @HEGARTYMATHS  11 лет назад

    It could and I get why you wrote that as it is correct. The way you wrote it and the way I wrote it are exactly the same and you have a great question. For example in numbers -2 - 4 works out the same as -4 - 2 and -2 + - 4. We are both correct

    You really should combine. You have 1 S plus 1/2 S so it's 3/2 S. Best practice is to combine so would try and make sure you can do this. Good luck!
