- As family and friends are preparing to lay celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain to rest, one of Bourdain's closest friends and mentors, Jacques Pepin, remembered his life and legacy from his home in Madison, Connecticut.
A little known fact is that with Tony's first book, he could not find french chefs or publishers that would back it. Jacques stepped in and vouched for Tony & the rest is history.
Wasn’t it just ‘a lucky shot’ at the NY Times where his mother worked or something like that? Then based on the article the book was published and off he went.
@@larreye8451 New Yorker, I think it was.
She worked at the NY Times and other publishers, and she suggested he send it to the New Yorker, where it was published, and within 48 hours his life completely changed...
You might call that a "lucky shot" but others would say that he put his hard-fought soul on paper and made the effort and took the chance that few others do.
At the height of my cooking career in the Bay area I read Anthony's "Kitchen Confidential" and I instantly had a connection. I was like him and he was like us! Cooks! As long as I am alive and cooking I will always be thankful for Anthony's constant inspiration! And that gose double for my hero Jacques! I love you both!!
Jacques has lost so many people close to him, Julia, his wife and now Anthony. Rest In Peace Chef. We still miss you.
he's 86--he's lost way more than them
Pépin and Bourdain, same passion and kindness. Rare in today’s tv cable kitchens.
Léo Pold theyre real on their crafts as cooks thats why theyre not on food network just like ripert and even zimmern
Kindness is not part of this business sadly
God Bless you Mr. Pepin, my mother loved you and Julia. She died,45 years ago, Everytime I see you both on PBS create, you bring her back to me. Cheers.🍷
Rare everywhere
My Aunt Janice raised her family in Madison CT and knew J.P. she has recently passed but always spoke highly Of J.P. May Bordain RIP he was legendary
I was working the line about the same time as Tony and also discovered Jacques about then when watching the infamous Tomorrow show where Julia got cut. I learned about cooking from all of them but from Tony I also learned more of humanity. Prayers and peace.
Bourdain was truly a global citizen. The world needs more people like him.
PFFT. The world needs more suicidal maniacs? Hate me. NOW.
CooManTunes what a dumb fuck comment
@@iamsheep The only dumb thing is YOU. What's wrong with it? Guy is living the dream, then offs himself. What gives? Ridiculous.
@@CooManTunes another dumb fuck comment. Its almost like people suffer from depression. I commented on his world view and his empathy. Is your assertion that people of opposing views to him, nationalistic fanatics who are protectionist and don't care for other cultures immune to depression and suicide?
@@iamsheep Killing yourself =/= depression. It = insanity. I MUST BE A DIRTBAG, SINCE I WANT TO LIVE. :'D Imbecile.
Poor Jacques. He's so sweet.
Just a beautiful person inside and out. A true treasure.
He's also on camera. WATCH WHAT YOU SAY.
@@CooManTunes Do you get off on being a total asshole? Grow up.
Pepin was the first TV cook I watched when I was a child. Anthony was one of my modern favorites. I love the respect they have for each other. 2 years on I miss Anthony.
Seeing this, it occurs to me that the sadness for Pepin would be so much more acute insofar as he would have expected to pass away before Bourdain, just as a parent would expect to pass away before a son or daughter does. Outliving somebody who was so passionate, talented, vibrant - full of life, in short - is hard to process. Pepin remains a treasure and his own passing will be greatly and deservedly mourned when it occurs, but it is sad to think that there will no longer be Anthony Bourdain to carry the torch afterwards.
We only have one life and let’s make the best out of dark times. I don’t know Anthony but I miss his spin on life.
I believe Anthony Bourdain is still alive! Memories, Videos - Proof!
I enjoy everything he says, all the stories, dude!
Thank you, Chef Pepin.
My favorite Bourdain show was about a 'Tower of Sea Food' he ordered while in Normandy.
Don't seem to be able to find the link.
I knew people like Tony that had very similar personalities and views on life & death. There is nothing you can do to stop them. One of my best friends was on the top of the world -had a high paying dream job & a drop dead gorgeous wife, and kicked himself on a whim. He’d always said he wanted to go out on top and was the type that got nothing from material wealth or what turns most people on. It’s frustrating and maddening for awhile but then you’re just like ‘c’est la vie’.
Whim?
Are you so shallow that you honestly believe that someone would end their life on a whim?!
Your lack of understanding and empathy is what defines the dregs of society.
That person was not your friend. At most, an acquaintance that could have been your friend if you weren't such a blithering idiot.
two greats, timeless
I sobbed the day I learned about his death.
Bewildering subtitles!
Poor Jacques. he feels like all of us.
RIP Chef.
Jacques Pepin = Food Good I miss Tony so much
This one still hurts:/
no patience with snobism or fakery
Evidently, enough patience for suicide.
@@CooManTunes idk if i would necessarily say it takes patience to commit suicide unless you do the old CO2 thing or something. so your bit doesnt work homeboy.
That sigh at 0:22
We miss you Tony✊
I liked "A Cook's Tour" even more than "Kitchen Confidential."
RIP Chef
one badass toasting another.
It was so obvious the last few years of his life that he was depressed . I wonder if people around him tried to help. Also wonder if ketamine or psychedelics such as psilocybin could have helped. There are clinical trails going on now at Johns Hopkins for their use in PTSD and depression. Miss him very much.
I read that he was most likely murdered because he spoke out against human trafficking. He and 2 other celebs.
that is a theory, but man, he was so preoccupied with the uselessness of his life always in a hotel/airport...not with his family, etc.
How dud he die?
I think anyone who followed Anthony, his cooking, his travels all have the same attitude, same motivations and same drive. We like to explore new different things and don’t give a ffff about other people’s opinion and we all hate Rachel Ray.
Anthony been dealing with a lot of shit so did I
me too..AB and I were born same month/year---we are both Cancers, but they say it's more difficult being a male Cancer. I dated 2 male Cancers and they were similar to him. Talented as hell, but always melancholy. (And Robin Williams, Ernest Hemingway both same b'day as me...all male Cancers)
Anthony treated you..according to if he liked you
He was deeply hurt maybe destroyed by his girlfriend. But he took all that pain and gave it to his daughter when he took his life. Very sad.
Why????? What did his girlfriend do to him??? He spoke of his depression 😔
very true - it isn't easy to keep going however
Chef Bourdain did NOT take his life.
@@rmp7400 yes he did! Look it up!
PepPON
It's a lie! He didn't kill himself! I will never believe that! RIP Tony! 🙏 You are missed! ❤
It was not a suicide!!
Oh piss off find a better conspiracy theory to waste your time with.
Whey hey i hear Malaysia!
The spiffy expansion definitely attend because rugby erroneously rob during a fantastic plaster. adorable, broad fox
Suicide was his part unknown
How can a person suicide when he eats the best food in the world.
theres no way he would have hung himself...spade either or williams...symbolic of the
He was definitely murdered
Yeah right, a 6'6 tall man hangs himself from a door knob 3 feet from the floor with not a drug in his system. And I am the Queen of England!
Ah, a fellow red piller. Greetings friend :)
ava rey tottlay agree....week before kate spade...an williams its symbolic of the ..
Agreed. He was murdered by the elite sex slave trafficking racket
Anything's possible. Its hard to be he had no drugs in his system. I also find it odd that he would pay the young man his G.F molested. There's something wrong with that. That makes him complicit and I'm a huge fan of Anthony. May he RIP.
I didn't even know who Bourdain was, didn't seem all that interesting to me.
