When I had to quit drinking, my therapist demanded I learn to knit by our next appointment, or she would teach me herself, and charge me her regular fee, so I learned, and it was the best therapy EVER! It truly helped me through a very dark time!
Oh my goodness. If I didn't knit every day I don't know what I would do with myself. I need it to help my arthritic hands, and if my hands and my brain are busy knitting I'm not eating. I've been knitting every day for a year now. I've made socks for the first time in my life. I've discovered knitting podcasts and have online knitting friends now. I feel like I have a whole new lease on life.
I banged my head in the fall of 2016 and my neurologist and a retired physician sister of my best friend both suggested meditation to help cure the headaches and keep my brain healthy and I hate meditating. When they heard that they both suggested knitting. I used to knit so I picked it up again and it reduces my headaches, my stress, lets me knit to podcasts and TV and music, and I'm churning out practical stuff as my husband says who is the beneficiary of one of the sweaters I'm knitting now and is two scarves and his favorite pair of bedsocks richer since I started. :-) So I'm a big believer in knitting at least for a half hour every day.
Thank you for justifying my obsessive knitting existence! Just one question, how do you knit for just 10 minutes??? I often fall victim to the "just one more row" syndrome!
I am basically a quilter but have recently started to knit again. There is definitely something positive about having a smaller project to take anywhere with you. And since circular needles came to the market years ago, I never turned back to straight needles unless I have to use dpns. Thanks for your upbeat videos. I love them.
Love what you’re both wearing! ♥️♥️♥️. My daughter has anxiety and is learning to knit. She is loving it! I am a little jealous of how quick she picked it up! I find it interesting that I knit continental and she prefers English knitting. And we have the same teacher! I just love that she’s enjoying it!
I knit and crochet every day! It helps me with my stress. I love it been doing it since I was 9yrs Thank God for this craft! Thank you, ladies two you are so fun😘😘
Yay! I'm so happy for you. You are too beautiful to hurt yourself. Remember always, there are others that can love you more but you have to live yourself too. Hugs sister.🙏💗
I knit everyday I always take my knitting to work it helps me so much through stress and wanting to scream plus there is a great benefit from knitting is the finished project like my shawl I designed with matching hat thanks ladies for great tips.
This first sock I'm doing is SOooo long! 16 inches before I get to work the toe... Yes, I forgot to read through the ENTIRE pattern before I started. I just looked at the picture, skimmed the pattern (no heel, cool!) and cast on. I'll post a pic when I finish the first sock, and another when i finish the pair! I'm knitting several times throughout the day, when my Shop is open, and at least an hour or so before I go to bed most nights. I think crocheting will always be easier for me, and faster, but I'm loving my knitting! Thanks for being such an inspiration GG's! PS- I'm watching your vlogs too
I was having terrible problems with sleep. Then I learned about the blue light from screens, and made a change. Instead of using my computer/phone/kindle before bed, I would start getting ready for bed about an hour before the time I wanted to go to sleep. In my pjs, I'd sit on the bed, listen to a podcast or audiobook, and knit for an hour. It was such a wonderful way to de-stress. When I started yawning I put down my knitting and snuggle into the duvet. My sleep patterns were improved greatly. I'd recommend knitting before bed to anyone who was having sleep problems.
Knitting helps me reduce stress and depression. What usually gets me to loose my mojo is when I pick a project that my skills aren't developed for yet. I've only been a knitter for 2 yrs. Gonna try to knit everyday because my goal is to use half my stash before Maryland Sheep and Wool festival!😉
Love these reasons to knit! I totally get every one of them. I does help me relax and sleep better. It helps you lose weight as well. When you knit with two hands, it's a bit harder to snack. Also, you don't want to get potato chip oil on that alpaca yarn!
I loved this... Who knew teaching myself to knit and knitting everyday would be so rewarding!! Btw LOVE the coffee mugs!! Do you have a website where they are for sale? 🤞
I love to knit and regularly. i think it's great stress reliever. I have read many places about the dopamine factor. I was in a car crash last week, totaled my car and i think picking up my needlesagain will help this concussion heal faster. Or so I hope so. I think there needs to be more medical research done and implemented in medical practice.
Hi, I also knit so i don't hurt anyone. Sidenote: I saw Jodie wearing the Plaidaptation Poncho and I'm trying to find your video where we discussed that. I wanted to make that and wanted to hear your commentary on it; its quirky like and looked really good on you!
I’m a very dimple knitter... I don’t like complicated things, do Zi stick with the easy stuff...That I can easily see.. I have serious vision issues.. BUT...?I knit every day... And often crochet... granny squares and my GrAnny Stripe blanket,usually.. Knitting makes me feel the same way hsndquilting does...happy, creative, and peaceful... ... I give away everything I knit, so... I get the added benefit of knowing I have helped someone stay warm...or provided a baby with a tiny first hat..
I definitely can feel the stress melting away when I knit. I has been a good thing for me to do for anxiety, stress, and sense of accomplishment when I finally take a project off my needles.
But it keeps me from the ironing basket! Hahahaha! But yes, I certainly love the idea about the dopamine, stress relief and the building neural pathways - I'm staving off any dementia-related conditions by learning new physical and mental skills in my...er... mellower years! And knitting is one of them!
I have a bad habit of knitting until the arthritis in my hands hurt. Than oil, heat, and a hand massage is needed. I couldn't live without my crafting. No arthritis is going to stop me. LoL
Hi Patricia, I feel the same way you do! I don't let my arthritis stop me. It may slow me down at times, but as soon as my hands are feeling better, I pick up my knitting needles and keep going for as long as I can.
Interesting points. I would add 12 th reason you should knit every day...its the only way you will ever get rid of the massive amounts of yarn in your home!
Plus, knitting burns an average of 102 cal an hour, twice what just sitting around burns, so with a little mental manipulation you can convince yourself that "well, at least I'm getting a bit of exercise" - lol

Awesome! I would say this applies to crochet too though.

I begin everyday with coffee and knitting, and knit every night after supper and cleanup is done. I couldn't survive without it!
I use to be a cutter and since knitting I don’t even think of self harm.
Yay! I'm so happy for you. You are too beautiful to hurt yourself. Remember always, there are others that can love you more but you have to live yourself too. Hugs sister.🙏💗
MoJo Smyles Thank you

Knitting burns 165 calories an hour. This is my exercise program. LOL
I knit everyday, even on break in my office....it helps the world look better! Hugs gurls
I agree with you knitting every day is good for you. I knit most days will make sure I do it every day this year.

I taught myself to use chopsticks, and I can now snack without getting my fingers (and yarn) icky.
Keep up the excellent work, ladies!
I want to the cinema today with my sister and my knitting!
I love to knit and crochet. Knitting is my go to thing!! I knit and crochet for a charity in my area. So much fun!!

As if I need any more encouragement. Also, it is cold here during the winter (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) and knitted or crocheted items keep us warm.
I do that too!!! Leave it and pick it up after a week or so...

Its my first reason too... craft (knit/quilt/crochet/make a card) to avoid cleaning the house hehehe
Does quilting or crocheting count as well? Because there isn't a day I'm not doing any handwork
YES!!!
I knit and crochet at least 3 hours a day. I broke my back so knitting keep me from being totally board.
I have a bad habit of knitting until the arthritis in my hands hurt. Than oil, heat, and a hand massage is needed.
I couldn't live without my crafting. No arthritis is going to stop me. LoL

Love the podcast, I hate the music in the background. It's distracting.
