I have long hair, and occasionally I find it nicely knit in with my project. Doesn’t that just add strength? ;-)

Trying to stop the cats from sitting on my lap is like trying to stop a raging river with a sieve. It just is not happening, and when there is knitting (or any project)in my lap, well...I am also partial to eating. I do try to keep my fingers sort of clean. Does licking them off count??

I am a gross knitter. An example is the ball falling out of my zip lock bag and rolling across my brother's hospital room floor yesterday.

Well, I don't think I'm a TOTAL gross knitter-no knitting in the toilet-that's for reading!-or with sticky fingers BUT I DO accidentally knit dog hair & my hair into projects. I heard somewhere that when Irish or Scottish knitters make a sweater for someone they always knit at least one strand of hair into it so the person will always think of them as they wear it. Don't know how true it is but it sure SOUNDS good! AND it gives me an excuse for not pulling them out all the time 😂

    • @telola56
      @telola56 6 лет назад +1

Margaret Burleson I wonder if a Scottish or Irish knitter made that up just explain why there’s hair in the sweater. 😋

You know you could be right!!! As a person of Irish descent I have to stick up for them though!! 😂

I’ve tried pulling my hairs out of garments, but my hair is really long and generally ends up just pulling a section tight. I’ve learned to live with the unintended personalizations 😁

Years ago, when I was first learning to knit, I noticed that occasionally one of my hairs would get knit into what I was working on. And, because my hair is quite long, it was entwined and almost impossible to extricate from the work. My knitting mentor told me not to worry. "It happens to everyone," she told me, "and this makes it truly yours." LOL! I learned from a pro. Much love to you both and anyone reading this. ~hugs~

If a skein of yarn smells of lamb-y goodness, my cats will drag the skein under the bed and proceed to sniff and lick the yarn, and will often growl if someone tries to take it away. I find the yarn in a tangled mess but manage to ball it up and knit it anyway.

There are at least a few pairs of socks out there that have my hair from when it was super long. I try to pull it out, but I am not frogging to get rid of it LOL... Arne and Carlos did a video on taking care of hand knits and one of the suggestions was to air the hand knits out a lot. After all, you don’t wash the sheep in wool wash :) So I like to hang them out on the line to air them out when the weather is nice

I am obsessive about my knitting. No one can touch my knitting, I keep hand wipes in my knitting bag, and while I do not wash my knitting in between wearings, I do toss my knitted sweaters, shawls, hats and mittens in the dryer with a dryer sheet on low heat for 10 mins. to freshen each item. I do wash all of my knitted items in the spring before I put them away for the summer. Love your show!

So glad to find out I'm not the only one who has furbabies and have the occasional dog hair to pick out. I try to keep my projects fur free, but it's impossible.
I would like suggestions on using different yarn than the pattern calls for. Sometimes I like the yarn, but not the pattern. Just having the right gauge isn't always the best way.
Different yarns drape different and have different stitch definition.
Thanks, enjoy watching. You two are so fun!

I saw the title for gross knits and immediately knew I was on this list for one main reason. Birth. Nine years ago I went to the hospital which is the grossest place in the entire world and I was knitting a shawl. Very basic Harry Shawl. I dragged that shawl all over the hospital. I was walking and knitting it. Sitting on a birth ball with the yarn going all over the room. On the toilet. I went to the cafeteria and the yarn fell out of my bag and someone had to crawl to get it for me and my husband had to wind it back up. I stood and watched him and just kept knitting. The shawl ended up on the floor under the hospital bed while they were telling me to push. Then it got run over when they realized I was not doing so good and they threw the sides of the bed up and decided to run with the whole bed. The needle it was on broke. I called my mother and sent her to Webs (its my local yarn store) for another needle. She had no idea what she was looking for. My friend works there and that was how she found out I had the baby. Because my mother showed up saying "She said a US 6 circular and make it huge. What the heck is that? Help me." I bound off the shawl and had to toss it in the tub to wash. I did not trust that shawl.

I do several of these things but my worst tight now is adding my hair to each project. Luckily it's the long silver strands that are visible as natural sparkle! I can't let yarn onto the floor at any time but certainly not in a public place. Sticky fingers yes I'm guilty. Most of it I'm boringly normal, not gross. Yes I wash my knitwear but probably not as often as I should. I have some 30 year old pieces stored away but they were washed and thoroughly dried before storing.

I don't believe I have ever knit while sitting on the toilet. But I do remember knitting at the airport and my ball of yarn fell on the floor and rolled a little ways. I did pick it up pretty quickly but who knows what gross stuff stuck to the yarn and is now in that particular project.

😂🤣😂. This was fantastic!!! I’m totally a gross knitter. Just for the record, Carlos (Arne & Carlos) said you should never have to wash a 100% wool sweater. He said wool is self-cleaning. He just airs out his knits once a season.

How funny!! I knit around my pets and I know I knit their fur into my projects. I always wash my socks after each wear but my shawls and sweaters don’t get the washing attention they need. Nor do my hats and mitts. Thanks for the reminder!

Hilarious as always!!! I can honestly say I don't do these gross things. I wash everything at the end of the season before it gets packed away. And some items like my wear day in and day out mitts get tossed out and I make fresh ones in the fall. There's nothing like a good wool wash!

I finished my first sweater over the weekend. Machine washed it on a delicate cycle hoping to soften it and opened the washer to a shredded sweater. Ugh. Will be using your technique next time for sure!

I've never washed any of the scarves that I've knitted... I made the first scarf about 12 years ago.

Oh gosh I'm pretty sure I have knitted my hair into everything I've ever knitted 🙈 this reminds me I have some knit wear to wash!

I always wash my socks and sweaters; however, my shawls were never washed (except for the first time blocking). Guess I should start washing everything! Thanks for bringing awareness to ugly habits.

I knit my hair in sometimes!! I hate 'sticky' so I regularly wash my needles while I'm working with them so the yarn isn't dragging.

I am guilty! I have an Australian Shepherd with soft long hair! I have knit it into all of my projects over the last year and a half! I actually have washed several of my knits but I'm sure I have something that could use a wash now... Otherwise, I'm a pretty clean knitter. I love your videos!!!

Hi, I am working on my first sweater and have eaten potato chips, spilled coffee, tea etc. and still have the sleeves to do! My hair is very long and is in everything I have knitted! I will wash the sweater when finished, I am pretty good about that. Love the shawls you are wearing!

I am guilty of knitting my hair into projects but when I discover it, I can’t get it out without tinking back, so it stays! I like to say a little bit of me goes with every gift I make! 😂😜
I’m really liking the new format with lots of short videos! Nice!

I always have a project (usually socks) in my purse that I knit everywhere including doctor visits and I don't always wash them before giving them away.

Learned about your suggestions on washing the wool sweaters. I have gone the easy way out and have them dry clean. My fear that the knitted piece come undone with the waters it terrifies me. With your method I will try. Thanks for your educational videos.

I’ve definitely knit quite a few hairs in my projects and my yarn has seen the floor of airplanes and other public places. I say it gives my projects more character.

Another hilarious episode. I’m a new knitter, have only finished four projects and did wash them all. I do snack on almonds, well some might have chocolate on them, while I knit. I’m glad to learn what can happen if I don’t wash 😳

Yes sometimes get hair in project, do my best to remove. Do not eat with project. Keep yarn in something when working on it. Yes I wash often. My husband hates when I do everything lying flat, drives him nuts. Luv you shows

I'm a new knitter!!! I'm knitting my first project, a pair of socks!! But yes, I do eat and knit at the same time!! My cat sits on my lap while I knit! Thanks for the washing tips!

I’m sure my kitties are a part of my knit projects! Yarn stays in a bag though and I try to avoid all those other things!! 😂. Can’t wait to try some soak. What is the follow up for letting things dry?

My kitty loves wool. Her favorite place to sleep is a wool blanket that i keep in front of my wood stove. But when she wants a change of pace she looks around for any wool garment i have left draped over the back of my knitting chair and settles in for a snooze.

I'm a doc and influenza is in full swing. I squeeze some knitting in between patients while waiting for them to be roomed. Even small chunks of time are precious knitting time!

I’m a fairly new knitter so nothing I have has been worn that much but I do have two red haired dogs that I know are a sweet addition to every hand knit item!
