Man RIP Chadwick Boseman. He would of been lit in this role 😭
Denzel Washington son would be great at the role
No he wouldn’t he’s not tall enough
@@armedwithwings3953 absolutely not true. He’s actually the same height is Yasuke. He was 5’9” when the average samurai was about 5’. I lived in Japan for 4 years & my fascination with him and his story became an obsession.
@@armedwithwings3953 who? Chadwick would’ve been perfect as Yaskue
I agree 1000 %
Hollywood would whitewash all the greatest black icons and performers of the 20th and 21st century if the could. We should tell our own stories 💯
Agreed. The Samurai with Tom Cruise.... Really?
We should, but we've chosen not to. Africans seem to prefer to make'em cheap and fast at the moment, especially Nigerians. And we, Black Americans prefer to work in other peoples' systems than putting in the effort to build our own infrastructures for some reason.
Go back to From Nothing
yes
there are also 3 more outsider samurai then yasuke
*Note*
On the portuguese sources... the portuguese generally referred to all of East Africa as 'Ethiopia' during the general time period inwhich Yasuke lived. When hometeam quotes them discussing 'Ethiopians' around 2:00, that's in reference to general east Africans, not the Habesha or 'Abyssinians' in specific.
Hidden go back to Jabari 🤣🤣 jus playin
Great observation. Sometime people use the term Ethiopian and not fully explain to the audience that they don't mean the modern country called Ethiopia.
His sculptures are nice, too. Very interesting figure here. Afro-Samurai.
I can’t wait to see this movie. I will read more about this too.
Christian El TRUTH BE TOLD HE WAS NEVER REAL HE WAS MADE UP
Vicente Rodriguez Yeah i just happy cause Chad is from Anderson Sc and so am I and we grow up in the same neighborhood but his is older then me. I do get what you saying though.
Christian El I’m saying that the black samurai was never real, he was just made up
Vicente Rodriguez dang well that suck thanks for letting me know
Christian El yeah no problem trust me I was happy about that too but my grandma and most of my family shut that down with factual evidence
Great video, I see you've been grinding out a lot of quality work my brother.
Only a black film studio can truly do his history justice, we shouldn't expect for a white film studio to do it right, especially when they have a white director behind it.
Since black America depedance on Hollywood then Nollywood is the only option but they are a low budget company
That makes no sense. Race has nothing to do with talent regarding the arts.
Not necessarily true. It has to be black Africans because black Americans were taught eurocentric history therefore it might still be white washed.
That is how I see things now, please do not profit from our blood.
We need to jump on opportunities, especially diasporas in our home country or anywhere in Africa.
We are best to tell our stories
Ohemaa AnG I hate to break it to you but even Africans are still tough euro centric history. African countries are the only countries that don’t teach their students in their native language.
“The Japanese distributed their prejudice equally” lol
Racist equality, everyone get criticized fairly lol
So glad you finally made a history video of him!
I just learned about Yasuke today. My grandmother is Japanese. Today Chadwick Boseman passed away. He worked on movies while going through treatments. I am sad to hear this news. He played Black Panther from marvel.
I was so excited when I saw the article about this!
"Returning to Africa" I like how that sound in my eardrum.hahah
I like when you remind us about the timeline and the baggage of that time. Today is my history evening, thank you.
Please do one on Bunce Island in Sierra Leone, West Africa. I have before and after pictures and passion to restore that island.
Good video, although I believe the “u” in Yasuke is more silent and it sounds more like “Yaas-Kay” (though I could be wrong)
Yes, its YA-SK-É
Nah u right man
Bro. I cringed every time he said it lol. But I loved this video so much I couldn’t turn it off
Like Sasuke in naruto
@@ShaQuilaRoberts Haa Haa!! Yessss! Same! Cringing as I write this, LOL!
I would rather see a film about the African warrior queen kandake Amanirenas who defeated the Romans, I am sick of these slave films.
Jenjen 100000 it would be nice if Africans made these movies about their people. Movies about my ancestors who were slaves are still important. They paved the way for others to be here. I highly recommend Birth of A Nation about Nat Turner or 1804 about the slave revolt in Haiti.
I never watched "12 years a slave" no matter how much Hollywood ramped and raved about it. I agree with you we need movies about great black history long before slavery happened.
And the Tyler Perry movies are getting kinda old now.
I am intrigued about this Queen you have stated. There is so much of our history that has not been told.
@@cinnamonstar808- Exactly.
@Ray Kemet Exactly, I want to see films about the Kandake Queens or the black hero of the Trojan war who was Ethiopian and was called Memnon, he was supposed to be the greatest archer and the Greeks held him equivalent to Achilles. Hollywood should be doing stories like these, not slavery films, forever depicting blacks as victims, I am sick of it.
Excellent presentation of your well researched opinion. Professor Gerald Horne's book "Facing the Rising Sun: African Americans, Japan, and the Rise of Afro-Asian Solidarity" adds to a more recent view of African-american and Japanese people too.
Excellent video like always. I hope they take note to make the movie as authentic as possible...not holding my breath though. Btw the pronunciation for 'Yasuke' is (YAH-skay).
Congratulations
His prononciation is good,simply ,Yasuke
Make it real
I dont se how he is wrong. Its spelled just like Sasuke from naruto. Why would it be any diferent?
I wish I'd seen this before I commented 😂
Thanks for posting the correction. Glad to see someone else knows how to pronounce his name correctly.
I anticipate a lot of pushback from Japan for this movie. It will be an interesting story but I doubt that the historical context will be respected and presented accurately without 21st prejudice After the massive profits made from black panther there will be more films featuring black historical characters and hero's. I ll be very surprised if the film doesn't portray yasuke as a tragic slave treated as inferior and dangerous by everyone .
That's true
Hollywood does have a history of destroying Black man's image. On the upside, could get folks to start reading history again, African and Asian.
Japan loves Yasuke. They have cartoons, video games, children's books etc based on him. They know more about him than black folks do honestly
It's a dilemma. If the movie is based on the real records of yasuke from the book, world people will call my ancestors such racists af. If the movie is based on the youtubers' story, Japan will become much more lovely country for all over the world but Japanese politician s will start using the story as their new dirty propaganda. Sigh.
I don't really understand how historians can really buy into the "yasuke was a slave" thing.
Speaking only with logic and drawing from my own experience in martial arts: you simply CAN'T learn to fight effectively in a short time if you're never been exposed to fighting before. He could not have risen that high and that fast in Oda Nobunaga's service without having previous military experience and training with weapons. You can learn to shoot a gun pretty fast, but to fight with a sword you need to basically be born to it. There is one, minor, group of historians who keep suggesting the idea that Yasuke was not a slave, but a mercenary/bodyguard in the service of the jesuits, with previous experience in warfare with muslims or christians in Africa and India, which would make much more sense than being a manservant with no weapon skills. (one of such route is followed in the excellent book: Yasuke: In search of the african samurai by Thomas Lockley).
I'm seriously intrigued by what Hollywood will do. They ought to milk that "Wakanda forever" sentiment, hit the iron while it's hot. I legitimately fear that this will bend the historical truth of Yasuke's story in order to cash in those sweet virtue signaling points.
Exactly i smell the bs soon as they said first
たまたまこの動画がお勧めに出てきたけど酷い内容だった。弥助は侍では無いし、英雄でも無い。たまたま最初に日本に来た黒人なだけです。
侍になるには血統か功績が必要です。弥助にはどちらもありませんでした。
I don't know if it's language contact or just coincidence but have you ever noticed how some Japanese words (in Romanization) look similar to Swahili words even if they don't look alike, it's just the spelling that gives that feeling?
Yall i notice that
Like the ambassador of Japan to Kenya, Toshitsugu Uesawa. Sugu and Sawa are Kiswahili words.
Not a coincidence, but an evolution.
@@BitotaNkongolo-ws9wd yes!
Even Italian has some swahili links.
Yasss- Kay The pronunciation is
Yasss- Kay
Love everything you reported but you may have overlooked the fact that there were more than just one black samurai
Thank you lol was hoping somebody said it.
Oh really? Who were the others...?
I'm so excited for the movie, friend referred me to this channel when I mentioned it.
Look at the Black in Japan interview of the author of the book African Samurai: The True Story of Yasuke, a Legendary Black Warrior in Feudal Japan. In the interview, the author notes that Yasuke more than likely was not a slave since the priest he came with was against slavery. Also, it talks about how the color black had positive (guardians of the gods) and negative (goblins?) impressions. ruclips.net/video/MFbL9pf08ec/видео.html
Its unlikely Yasuke to be a slave, but a black christian from a well off background. I must point that from a historic point of view on that time the portuguese armadas or trading ships in the Indian Ocean employed people from many nationalities, portuguese, spanish, italians, germans, christian indians from the church of St Thomas, former muslims, maybe chinese and indonesians... Slave routes where controlled by Muslim traders all east africa, and the Portuguese only possession by that time Yasuke lived was the Island of Mozambique and a small fort at Sofala. The first place was a base to rest and water ships, the second one, an attempt to have access to gold trade from today's Zimbabwe. Whatever Hollywood decides, Portugal will be portrait as the devils epitome!
mkmgramirez actually I read Yasuke was a missionary that travelled to Japan with an Italian missionary.
Excellent! Thank you for the link.
Early portuguese documents clearly state that he was a Muslim
I have never heard about this black samurai l am sock.
I swear that intro/outro chant have me on level 10 thousand ❤🖤💚
His name is pronounce yahs-key, the u is silent in Japanese.
Thank you! It annoys me his pronunciation
Same
Japanese here. Both are correct. In natural, fluent speech the u is often dropped, but pronouncing the u is not incorrect.
If there is anything to nitpick it's that the emphasis should be on the first syllable (YA su ke rather than ya SU ke), but it's okay
@@Liliphant_ cool. I usually get corrected by Japanese when I do that lol.
Once again , thank you for the history . Keep it coming.
Swear to goodness when Hollywood get they claws on something it ain't going to be right! 💕
It should have been done in Japinwood
The point that made Yasuke interesting was not only his skincolour, size or generall attractives. Yasuke also learnt Japanese quicker than others. Which made him endearing.
It was probably easier for an African to learn. Apparently it's still like that. African immigrants in Japan and China pick the languages up quick.
For the mere fact that Yasuke became a Warrior under a Japanese ruler profoundly states the strong possibilities of not being a slave. None if the Art express such according to Japanese records.
Love this video!
Peace and greeting to africans all around the world
Thank you for your insightful story of a mighty Black warrior.
I hope so & can't wait to see it on the Silver Screen
We must support the truth when it is told, so hopefully hollyweird gets it right.
I apologize for not saying it earlier outstanding video very informative my brother.
If I could time travel, I love to see this man in person. To learn about the legend and see what happened to him afterwards.
Cuh.... The moment I heard they were making a Yasuke movie I already knew the route hollyweird was going to take. Great video as always. B1
Black people have a very rich history .I have learn so much on your channel. Keep up the work
Thank you for this video !
I love my black families!! Though we're all more than the color of our skin. No matter how beautiful and strong we are.
Anjin (William Adams) and Yasuke... these 2 are my favourite non Japanaese Samurai! Ah... if there was more backstory on Yasuke which is not fiction.. that would be great. I think a great deal of historical research must be done in order to tell the Story of Yasuke the right way.
The problem with this movie is the fact that it will dismiss the earlier presence of Blacks in Asia. Actually, the first Asiatic man is Black.
Great I was Pushing for this Yasuke was the Man they have status of him Awesome I can't wait to see this hope they get this Right
is old boy going to play every African-American or African across the world in movies this is his 3rd biography pic lol ?
Unfortunately hollywood typecasts a lot. Not just Black actors too. Like, have you seen Stallone play something other than an action character?
Well, his no more now. Your wish came true, and now someone else will play the role.
I wish you'd do a follow up on this video now that weirdos are trying to erase Yasuke from the history books 📚
この動画は間違っている
Damn bro had my headphones on and volume a little extra and you video started...ya deep ass voice came through and I thought the ghost of Barry white was dropping some knowledge on me...plus it startled me
Johnny Rock Lol!
They should allow the director of the black panther to direct this movie, because I’m sure any other director won’t don’t such a movie any real justice. As a brother living in japan for 16 odd year Yasuke isn’t known by your everyday Japanese, I’ve watch many Japanese documentaries about Nobunaga and never did they mention anything about Yasuke ever. My own wife who’s Japanese never even knew of Yasuke existence. It’s as if the deliberately erased him from Japanese history.
The older folks know of him, but not the youngsters!
Coming to this late, but this is one of the most honest and interesting videos on the subject.
The only real, solid evidence that Yasuke was a slave was that the Italian missionary was paid when Yasuke changed service to the Shogun.
The controversy over whether he was a samurai comes from there being no official ceremony or documentation of him being given that rank. But all the circumstantial evidence points to it.
This is going to be a interesting movie
@Ray Kemet it will be alot of money put behind this film, i wonder who's directing
I hope your right homie.
I always thought the ainu were the first people of japan. You can also youtube chinese trace origins to africa.
Exactly!
Louis Banks You people are pathetic. Always trying to make blacks the origin of everyone and everything. I bet you also believe the North Africans and Israelites were black.
I've got a theory it's called everyone came from Africa and there is a link between Ainu and Australian Aboriginals which came from Africa.
@TheCrazyKid1381 Argue with can't argue with genetics kid.
@TheCrazyKid1381 Well they still have links to Aboriginals. Did you you know Caucasoids and Mongoloids of different ethnicities can have multiple links.
It's good to know that he was likely from my home country (Mozambique 🇲🇿❤️)
keep em coming!
Peace love and light my brother we really enjoy watching your videos very educational, one question where did you find that theme music from I would love to download it very energetic and Powerful. Peace love and light
History of the Mbundu please?!
Interesting, I've never heard of this man before. I'll have to look I to him more.
GHOSHH HOLLYWOOD !! CRINGE !! :-/ THEY ARE GONNA MAKE YASUKE AND EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM UNHOLY WITH THEIR TOUCH !! :( :-/
Love this
The Yasuke anime on Netflix is 🔥 Hollywood..we are a beautiful, strong and intelligent people!✊🏾💪🏾🙏🏾
great video..very informative..
I'm from Rwanda and I don't know why but I've always felt as though japanese and kinyarwanda are a somehow related.
For example the word "kamikazi" in kinyarwanda is just a name for mostly women.
Vinci sounds like the Zulu word “Nkosikazi” which means wife or woman. It’s nice how the African languages always sound similar and connect.
Damn Bruh this was so on point!
Komojin means red hairy man that is Esau right there! These Negros saying Esau is the Arab are all in a sunken place! Thankyou bro!
Im just going to point out there is no official paintings etc of Yasuke nor is his history prior to Japan that well known. In fact it isn't really known what happen to him after being captured by the warlord.
Kamikaze Hound There are several statues and a temple of him in Japan. Where are you getting your information?
Kamikaze Hound is right. There are no old statues or shrines of him. What is your source?
Can you make one about the African that went to India and became like a politician or something there? Please
Great vidéo, About the great gaïjin Samuraï
The way he said yasuke sounds like ya-suuuuuske like sasuke
I can see a statue of Yasuke being built somewhere in East Africa soon.
There's already a museum for the first English samurai (William Adams) in Britain.
Great video. I dis similar reseach. Looks like theres one book on an
Amazon dedicated to Yasuke. I wonder if JA Rogers did any work on him?
@spider879 excellent article. I did not know any of this history
@spider879 if you look on ole photos from that period their clothing & features are very African.
If I can find the book title i'll leave here, I believe there are 16 volumes in total which depicts people from around the world in their traditional clothing.....very interesting!
could you do a video about the siddhi particularly the ones in Pakistans who live in the sindh region
African Americans are quick to complain about non-Americans playing roles of American characters yet they have no problem with American actors playing African or Caribbean characters-SUCH A DOUBLE STANDARD!
Very true sir. I bet that moron Tariq is not complaining about an American potraying an African who did not set foot on Amerikkkan soil, but he would bitch and moan if a black british or African ever played an American. Those populist black Amerikkkans have double standards for sure, they have a feeling of self entitlement and its why i don't follow them anymore. They are divisive and Xenophobic especially this new ADOS crap they started, they are openly hostile to Africans,Caribeans,Black British and any none Caucasian immigrants to Amerikkka. Its pathetic.
Well, since Chadwick Bozeman is going to play Yasuke, then maybe we can have some hope that they will do justice to the story. Boseman should have some good pull in Hollywood now with Black Panther and Avengers under his belt. Everyone will be expecting someone powerful and dignified like T'Challa.
Bruh Chadwick should not play this role. It should be played by someone not so famous, someone most people don't already know from somewhere. That gives it a more "real" feeling like you're actually watching a movie about this man Yasuke and not a movie about some African ninja dude, played by Black Panther.
Great topic!
I gotta say. I didn’t think they would make a movie out of this.
Can’t believe he past away. Rip To a young legend.
Greatness always
If you haven't already discussed, what's your thoughts on Sakanoue no Tamuramro.
terrence williams I don’t have an opinion on him as I’ve never researched it
I will definitely watch the movie. I hope they will adapt it well.
I can't wait to see the movie
I'd rather see Trevante Rhodes as Yasuke than Boseman, I love both actors though
I hope they show different Japanese opinion not just on Yasuke but on African people and other races so we can different range of views on race. Also I hope they do good job on battles with oda nobunaga( every time I see his name i think of Samurai Warriors interpretation ) and as for the ending IMO they could give not very exciting ending he just goes on with his life no longer as a samurai but as normal person working and drinking and getting laid until he dies.
I just realised something absurd. Yasuke wasn't in the Drifters manga of which Oda Nobunaga is a key character.
Antoine Fuqua will give the character justice. If he directs the movie.
Some people believe the enemy pitied him and showed much respect for his bravery, but that they spared him by pulling the "too inferior to deal with" card
Hollywood shouldn’t even touch our history
Let the movie tell HIS story, not a Whiteman interpretation of it. Hence we need, historian, Japanese and a possible Black director input.
nitetimejohnson Exactly.
Yasuke has no record since the war of Honnoji in 1582, but if IEYASU TOKUGAWA was active as NINJYA in SENGOKU-JIDAI until the unification of Japan in 1603, it seems to be interesting as a movie series.
I'd like to see Smaurai vs ninja as well. As this was the year Nobunaga defeated the Koga.
I pray for one badass black samurai absolutely shredding enemies with a giant pole axe. C'mon Hollywood!
They should make yasuke come back to Africa, and teach some Africans Japanese ninja stuffs and then show some hidden elite force of Africa ninjas that only the black panther knows off, and black panther goes to call them back sometimes in the future in some marvel movie to help with some certain difficult war. I have whole series already rn lol
As long as they detail Portuguese slavery in Mozambique Zimbabwe Zambia Tanzania zanzibar and Mombasa Kenya.
I think the Portuguese and Jesuits lied when they say the Japanese didn't see Black people or African people before. Black people lived in Southern China, the Phillipines and South East Asia during that period. Black Indians merchants traded in China and India in the Classical era and during the Middle Age. Swahili merchants traded in China. The Japanese most have known about the Black Indians and Swahili Africans. The Japanese worshiped a Black Buddha. Yasuke wasn't very successful in the long run because his Japanese ruler lost his life and kingdom during the war in Japan.
Japan is the first country in history that has proposed the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination to the world @Paris Peace Conference (1919)
May I ask for sources on the historical info in this videos?
I adore Japanese culture I was smitten when I heard about Yasuke
I'm reading a book about Yasuke now and it appears he might be of Dinka origin given his height and although he was a slave he became Valignano's bodyguard and was skill full tactician and warrior even before joining Oda Nobunaga.
You have faith in Hollywood? Think about Gods of Egypt. I know Michael Jai White is older but this should be his part. Yashuke was describe to look as if he had the strength of 10 men, Michael Jai White.
Larez Moody The Egyptians were always Caucasoids.
This narrative is historically innacurate !!!! It's low key insulting to the legacy Africans who have such a long rich history in early Japan that is often times conveniently ignored. Yasuke is "not" the first black or only black Samurai ! In fact, Sakanouye No Tamuramaro was a damn Shogun. Interestingly many believe he was a black man who was the first man to be given the title Shogun. Yea, let's make a movie about a random soldier and ignore the existence of Colin Powell.
RIP Chadwick Boseman, he would have been great in this movie.
Thank You.
Lets hope its a Japanese writer/director who makes the film!
Betty Thomas I hope so too. But we all know Hollywood wouldn’t do that.
