  • Welcome to Episode 14 of Geofatboy’s Everyday Shave! In response to viewer’s requests, this will be a straight razor shave! The Straight Razor featured is the Boker Shave Nation King Cutter. Made by Böker in Solingen, Germany. An excellent choice if you’ve been shaving with a safety razor and want to make the jump to a straight razor. It has a 5/8 round point, carbon steel blade. Easy to sharpen and holds an edge very well. The best shave obtainable comes from a proper sharp straight razor. Many barbers use straight razors on their clients. We know that many of you need to shave every day for your jobs. Geo comes through with this new series where on 1 or 2 day’s beard growth, he will select a razor, describe it, cover the razor specs, and perform a quick working man’s type shave, and then comment about the Razor and also give the razor an Aggression Rating from 1-10. This enables you to get an idea how each particular razor will perform for you. This will help you when considering a razor to purchase. These videos will also be on the item description page for each razor at ShaveNation.com Click on "Show More" (below) to purchase the items shown in the video or go to ShaveNation.com Let us know what razor you’d like to see in an upcoming episode of Geofatboy’s Everyday Shave!

I prefer to use the straight razor on Sunday morning, using proraso menthol and eucalyptus,
With the sandalwood aftershave lotion. Nothing compares with the luxury of this clean and smooth sensation. 💈🍀

Now you should remind and educate for those who don't know to rinse the blade in cold water. Using cold water is so much better than hot or warm. I learned this from Geo and Bill. Don't forget Geo to mention to rinse the blade in cold water since it will be new to most people.

Even though I've been wet shaving with a DE razor since seeing your first way all those years back, I still can't pluck up the courage to use a straight razor. Being right-handed I don't think I could trust using my left with an open blade.

Wife bought me a straight razor a month ago and I was about ready to give up because none of the tutorials I had found made sense. This one however was perfect and I got that shave I’ve been looking for. Thank you! Shaving is enjoyable now (except for the occasional nick) 😅

Another great one Geo! Maybe consider a shave with an artist club shavette by Feather for one of your everyday shaves. Perhaps pair it with something like Proraso wood and spice shaving cream and aftershave balm.

I have a couple straight razors. Have used them occasionally but not a lot. Just ordered the 12,000 grit stone from Shavenation last night. I will experiment with the straight razors more knowing I can maintain them. I need to order a better strop next. The one I have works but I have to use the "X" method.

    Hurrah!
You made it outta the “bunker!” 😆
Seriously, “Geo,” 2 quick questions -
    1. Doesn’t CARBON steel stain more easily than other types of metal?
    2. After the razor eventually gets dull, do we need to use sharpening stones to get its edge back?
    Thx! 👍🏼

I always use a safety razor when i shave, but I'm interested in trying out a straight razor, even though I don't really know how to maintain a straight razor, I still want to try and learn. If I were to buy a safety razor, what kind of stone and strop would you recommend I buy to use so i can keep my straight razor sharpend and in good shape , And if there is anything else, what else would you recommend that I buy besides a strop and stone to maintain my straight razor sharpness?

fine stropping compound, or chromium oxide, 0.5 micron or below maybe slightly higher, could be nice for a smoother edge. or more regular maintenance than whetstones.
might be possible to get a new razor sharp with around 4-5 000 grit stone + around 10 000 grit stone, something coarser might be nice if it doesn't work, or more stones for a nicer progression. i got more than the bare minimum though.
razors might not be "shave ready" despite marketed as such.

    Greetings geofatboy!
I request you to try a shave using milk/fresh cream/curd to lubricate your skin and soften the whiskers. The razor would glide more smoothly and give you a much cleaner shave. Also milk is a good cleansing agent (used in women's beauty parlors for face cleaning for which they charge a fortune) along with this it nourishes our skin and makes it healthy and glowing. This method is more healthier and skin-friendly as this avoids any kind of chemicals present in shaving foams, creams, gels, soaps etc. which harm our skin in the long run. This method makes traditional wet shaving much more economical as now we even save money by not purchasing expensive creams, soaps, gels, brushes and what not. Blades also last longer and give you more shaves when you use milk, also you may not need any aftershave after that as the skin remains moisturized even after the shave.

But some say that when you use a straight razor regularly you shouldn't shave everyday. One, because it's a closer shave so hair take more time to grow back and two, you shouldn't be using the same straight razor everyday - because of metal compositions and stuff.
