You are such a gifted teacher! This is such a great lesson. !! Thanks for all you do. I am always picking up stuff from your tutorials. Great explanation of 12/8 time as well.
Blues is a great way on learning how to put it all together, even if someone doesn't like the blues. Some people aren't interested in the "why". I'm big on the "why".
Greetings Steve. Your videos are helping me navigate better and affirming a lot about my style. I like your style & lessons on blues. It speaks to me. Thank you . From South Africa
Damn, another great lesson! Don’t you do any lessons that suck? I know ya don’t. I’m really enjoying cruising through all the great videos on your channel.
Thanks brother. I started working on a video last night and then bagged it. It had potential to be a blower, lol. I do my best to put out helpful material.
That sounds really great. I stopped by here to find the secret recipe to feel the blues instead of sounding like an Oktoberfest humptata band when playing the same count, no offense to the humptata bands intended. I think, or better, I feel the difference a little bit better now. Thx!
Hey Butch here. I was thinking another cool instruction video would be for you to talk about how you learn songs. When you get called for a gig you must have to learn a number of songs before rehearsing with the band. Your process for doing this would be interesting and very informative. Thanks!
Well, the short answer Butch is RUclips. I pull the songs up on RUclips and learn everything by ear. When I moved down to Florida back in 2015, me and the wife were staying at a hotel. I got a call for a bass gig and I had my bass with me. So, I went to the local Guitar Center, bought a small amp, went back to the hotel room, pulled up all the songs the band was covering on RUclips, and just learned 'em all by ear. I played with that band for 5 years until the covid thing. The trick to learning a song by ear is first listen to it and get familiar with it. Then listen for the sections... verse, chorus, bridge, solo, etc. Then find the chord changes. Then dig into the actual bass line. Of course ya need a good ear. I can learn most simple songs by ear in 5 or 10 minutes. More complicated pieces of music will take a little longer.
I posted them so people can play/practice over them. Here's the track with no bass: ruclips.net/video/nNzjfk-0UJw/видео.html Here's the track with the bass in but no guitar solo: ruclips.net/video/iSFQnteXnrc/видео.html
