The first point you made about why the elfs discuss about the rings, The elven rings were not made by Sauron, therefore it does not necessarily have a direct link with him or his designs, and this happens both in the series, in the films, and in the books. Some eagles lived in Númenor, and were messengers of the Valar (the LOTR "gods", which I'm sure you don't know) so there is no harm in them appearing. The Balrog, although it is too early for him to appear, we do not really know what he is going to do and it still makes sense, since that Balrog hid in the depths after the fall of Morgoth.
The cavalry charge is not a copy of the Rohirrim charge, simply because they are cavalry in Middle-earth, they are not even men, they are elves, and there is nothing similar in both scenes. In addition, Elrond in the books comes to assist in the siege of Eregion, and it makes sense that he arrives with cavalry.
The only thing that doesn't make sense is that people like to see channels like this.

Sauron taking human form is an insult, Isildur is missing a brother and never came to Middle Earth before Numenor sunk, Galadriel was a sage, not a warrior, she got married to his husband well before anything that happens in Rings of Power. No movie ever goes along with the book entirely. And it's proNUNsiation, not proNOUNCEiation if we are going to be picky. Have you read the Silmarillion? • @markwood6056
    @markwood6056 3 месяца назад +6

Lord you really didn't pay much attention. Now because this is an adaption they are changes from print, and sure to be more changes. But some things have tied to written works.
Only Galadriel(and very likely Elrond) know that Halbrand was Sauron. No one else. When they report to Gil Galad, this is likely very early in the season (likely episode 1) this is where people would be the first to be told the truth of his true identity. And Galadriel is famous or infamous for her pride, so to admit she was deceived, would not be an easy admission for her. Elves are stubborn on a. scale that is hard to fathom. So she is telling it to her King first, her duty. So no they aren't acting like they don't know. They don't know. How can they know until they are told. That is utterly irrational. Communication is generally how knowledge is shared.
You state Galadriel tells everyone and you won't be deceived. Sorry but that is absolutely not how it works. Sauron isn't a man, he is isn't a dwarf, he isn't an elf. He is a celestial being. His mind, will and power are vastly more powerful then the people on middle Earth (Tom is the one real exception, not even Gandalf when both are at the full celestial power is equal to Sauron). Per Tolkien's texts, Galadriel is one of the most powerful Elves to have ever lived. And she might be the most powerful still alive at this time. Once she knows the truth at the end of the 2nd season and Sauron puts his will against hers, she is barely able to break free. This is not what most beings are going to be able to do. He could probably wear a neon sash that says I am Sauron and if he puts his mind to it very few people are going to even notice.
We hear about them (Elrond a couple elves) having fears that the rings will corrupt, thats all they are fears. That don't know. They aren't prescient, for christ sake. Anything at the early stages would just be fears and guesses. Elrond fears because Sauron wants to conquer that these rings might be part of the means of it. But at this point it's just conjecture, they would have no certain knowledge.
Now there is a voice over in the beginning where Galadriel talks about the use of rings being a means to bind people. But we don't know when this dialogue occurs. And as people who do watch films and tv and trailers, you are very aware that voice overs, don't necessarily occur over the events that are being shown in a trailer, just like you know scenes in a. trailer don't necessarily fall in chronological order.
While Galadriel at some point tells Elrond she doesn't believe thats the case for her's. She is correct per lore. The Elven rings are the only rings not directly touched by Sauron, and thus are free from his corruption. And on this show, Halbrand helped set up the creation of the elven rings, but he didn't actually have a direct hand in the creation. Thus I think it safe to say they are sticking with that part of the story. In story once they discover Sauron (after he helps create and give away the other rings and creates the one ring), once the elves learn of its creation, they don't use their rings just to be safe, but that is years and years later (so in the show probably a season or to down the line).
And you talk that this is just bringing up everything from Lord of the rings. You have it backwards.
Lord of the Rings does manage to end the threat of Sauron (that is unique to it), but in reality it's just a pale shadow of the much larger canvas of events that took place during multiple times in the 2nd age. And the second age events (the ones on the show gis condensing) are next to nothing compared to the scale and scope of the events of the first age. So really Lord of the Rings is an echo, of these events.
Now because they are condensing time, there are events that are separated by significant time that aren't going to have that time separation. But they are also going to cut a ton of material because of that condensed time. And frankly in makes rational sense. If you're spending half a billion on a series, you don't want to have to completely introduce all new characters for each seasons. With just 5 seasons on contract to be able to make, it would mean having to introduce new characters to populate the story and have them die off from either age or combat about every 3 episodes. I just can't see a show thinking an anthology series would be that worth that cost.
Galadriel per text stays away from Sauron, stays away from war. Sorry but not factual. Galadriel avoided most major conflicts against Morgoth in the first age, as she believed that unless the other Valar joined the conflict there was no hope. Key words, "most" not all. And once the War of Wrath was joined by the Valar who knows if Galadriel joined (I am guessing she didn't but its just a personal feeling no based on fact). That was what was holding her back. As of for the conflicts of the 2nd age. There is no passage that states Galadriel avoided battle or conflict. We know she sought out Sauron (many assume this is mentally, it's an assumption). We know she saw to the defensive of one of the ares she settled in during the 2nd age. In what manner, we don't know. We know that no force of Sauron was able to best, her save unless Sauron himself came fourth. As for the battles, very few names are actually given for the multitudes of people who are in them. So we can't say. We know a few small details about some of the battles, but there majority. No. We know she can and has fought, we know she has been in places to fit untold monsters and beast. But there is never any description of how she fights. There is the description of how she is when she fought against the forces of Feanor when they attack her's mother's people. But are the descriptions about physical ability are about strength of character. We don't know. Now Tolkien did use two character from various other mythologies for inspiration of Galadriel and both were both strong will and mystic but also great physical fighters. So who knows. But one thing is clear when looking at various notes and changes made before he died is that he keep expanding Galadriel's influence and standing. For a character that isn't mentioned much at all in this greater works.
Now it's true that in the books are different. But why the hell are you judging that as how it should be.
This is an adaption. Adaptions can be faithful and wildly different. Neither make the quality of the product good or bad. It's the execution which is what you judge material on. Not to mention that most of the material that this is based upon isn't a factual telling. Tolkien describes his work outside of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings as his Legendarium. The mythical tales that form the setting of the Events of the Lord of the Rings. Tolkien was very much aware that myths are not accurate historical records of the past. Hell he was also aware that historical records aren't factual tellings of the past. The appendix of Lord of the rings has deliberate differences in it to the events as shown in Lord of the Rings. Thus giving a perfect example of how history gets warped.
There is a film called Immortals (its not that good)which is vignettes of the mythology of the events surrounding Theseus. Its presented very much in the style of the myths themselves. If you were looking for a strict adaption of various events of the 2nd age. This is probably be what it would look like.
The idea that fleshing out a backstory about Gandalf is blasphemy is utter bullshit. Tolkien's talked about how he had yet to tell the earlier stories about Gandalf. His early history is mythology. Not history. And even that isn't told. With Star Wars in your example which rationally makes utterly no sense. You are comparing a mythology presented in tales, to material presented through the eyes of the events themselves.
I certainly hope as adults you can understand the difference.
And for heaven's sake I am utterly sure that both of you have enjoyed adaptions that are wildly different from the source material. Like any arthurian legend. Well almost none of them are close to the earliest tales. How about the Stories that are commonly referred to as the Grimm Fairy Tales. Well guess what we don't have mainstream versions of those that come close to the actual origin of the tales, and you can do this ad nauseam.
Now you might not like material. Thats perfectly fine. And I can certainly understand thinking, while I would do it this way, or would do it that way (thats normal) But saying something is bad or wrong because it's not the way you want a tale told is pretty damn irrational. And it really doesn't;t reflect how tales change in the telling.
