    I'm not qualified to answer this but I am an aspiring creature designer so I think about these things a lot. About bird eyes: I would chose a reference closest to the lifestyle of the dinosaur you are drawing.
    For example: owl eyes are not perfect spheres, they are actually tube-shaped so they cannot move them very well. Basically at all. The tube-shaped eyes give them better depth perception, and obviously, the larger eyes are better for nocturnal hunting.
    Eye colour also seems to be important. In general, nocturnal owls seem to have darker eyes while diurnal and crepuscular owls have yellow or orange eyes. According to one website, the black eyes are to better blend in to the night. I just googled it though so I'm not sure on the fact behind the answer. Barn owls are an exception to this, but they get style points.
    Many other factors influence bird eyes, such as eyes of a predator vs the eyes of a prey animal. Predator species like eagles need good depth perception so they face forward, yet they have a nearly full 340 degree field of view at the same time. Ducks, on the other hand, have a 360 degree field of vision with their own unique shape and placement. So it all varies.
    I'm sorry if this is all redundant information to you because you are (I assume) a professional and I'm just a student but creature design is my passion and your video was a lot of fun to watch. Just a few days ago I found myself flipping between bird, lizard, and horse anatomy to try to figure out how the neck muscles of a dragon should look. I eventually settled on referencing the parasaurolophus, which is neither a bird, lizard, or horse and was in the end also an estimate and not as accurate as a modern animal. Yay for speculative animal design.... (sobbing)

    whenever i draw dinosaurs i base the eyes off of modern birds that fill a similar niche to that dinosaur, something like a t. rex would have eagle eyes, and something like ornithomimus would have ostrich eyes, sometimes dinosaurs that are less bird like i will base off of a mammal but give it a bird spin, an animal like edmontosaurus would have horse eyes but with a bit of turkey mixed in and pachyrhinosaurus would have muskox eyes but with a bit of puffin mixed in, these are just some examples and i hope it helps if you can understand what im saying

    Dinosaur facial tissue was probably very stiff and wouldn't have the little muscles allowing for movement of lips, nostrils etc like in mammals. For me the best reference for theropods were always monitor lizards. Yes birds and crocodiles are more closely related, but are way to specialized for flying /semi aquartc ambush predators respectively, while monitor lizards are the only non mammals that fill the niche of an active large, agile, and terrestrial predator like theropods. If I remember correctly there was a study on Daspletosaurus face integument, maybe you should look into that. In other words there is two ways you can go, what you see in most lizards, small nostrils sourrounded by scales, or somethign more stiff and ceratinous, kind of a mixture between what you see in turtles and crocodiles. In both cases I doubt they would have been able to flex those.

      @@kanatigothwhat is shrinkwrapping?

    • @kanatigoth
      @kanatigoth  Месяц назад +2

      Great question! Shrinkwrapping is when dinosaurs, for example, are drawn with their skull and skeletons extremely exposed under the skin. Lots of old 90s paleoart and back show this a lot.
      For example, look at the side profile of the 1993 Jurassic Park T.rex and the Prehistoric Planet T.rex. The antorbital finestra or that big hole in the skull between the eyes and the nostrils is very prominent in the JP rex. That's shrinkwrapping. There should be muscles and sinuses before you'd see any bone. The Prehistoric Planet rex doesn't have this problem.
      Does that help?

    Heres a tip: When googling anything put -ai- or/and -prompt- to filter out ai generated stuff. The hyphens make it so that any file that contains the word "ai" or "prompt" dont show up

    You should prabably give them eyes resembling those of predatory birds, as they would have relatively similar lifestyles.

    Fun fact: its not the size of the nose itself that make the t. Rex sense of smell strong, but the part of its brain called olfactory bulb that proses the smell, in the brain cavity scan it was discovered that the olfactory bulb of the t rex was unusually large indicate that this mega theropod has an impresive sense of smell

    my gosh i am so confused about dinosaur nostrils too

  • @rupertdabear3148
    @rupertdabear3148 16 дней назад

    I think that a good rule of thumb is to look at the skulls of modern animals with similar skulls to get an idea of how the soft tissue would sit on skull for nostrils. For eyes again use similar skulls for eyelids etc,but for the eyeballs etc look at how the Dino hunts and compare to modern birds,snakes and lizards etc. Hopefully then you'll be able to know if they had binocular vision etc. If they are predators or prey will again guide you on how to proceed in regards to eye placement, type etc. I'm far from an expert in this,and in fact I would say that I am not even a novice and am just going from basic deduction and common sense so I'll defer to anyone who has a better idea than this. Just hope it helps in some slight way!

    Well, idk how to help you, but criolophosaurus was fluffy, if this helps, there is a fossil of where (probably) a dilopholosaurus had lain down, and shows it was fluffy, criolophosaurus is a close relative of it and lived in colder areas, so it's safe to assume it was also feathered (not wing feathers, something that looked like cassowary or kiwi feathers)

    • @kanatigoth
      @kanatigoth  15 дней назад

      So it actually turns out that the dilophosaurus trace fossil was the cracks in the mud that it was sitting in. So far there's no evidence for dilophosaurus having feathers.
      Cryolophosaurus has been placed in Allosauride and dilophosaurus is in Dilophosauride which is in-between Coelophysidae and other larger later theropods.
      Antarctica in the early Jurassic was a lot warmer than what people think, since it was WAY closer to the equator. Relatively tropical. Sure, maybe cryolophosaurus had its dino fuzz, but so far there's just no evidence.
