I was at the first one in Melbourne. The crowd loved it, and we all went off when EC played a bit of Sum 41 in tribute. After that snippet, the vibe was electric. Never seen a crowd react so well. So many people I know said that EC, not Korn was the highlight of the entire day!
It never ceases to amaze me how some musicians can do this. I have been playing guitar for 20 plus years, and the idea of something like this scares me. Hats off to those amazing musicians that are able to fill in to keep the train rolling.
Guitar is comletly different from drums. Maybe it sound rude but playing drums is easiest in terms of mastering it. If you have talent to drums you can play in random places on random set. Its just easy to improvise when music is playing. Its not easy overall but for a drummer its pretty easy
@@sajuente8235 I would agree partially - sometimes my band starts jamming a song we hadn't rehearsed before and often it seems like our drummer knows the song too, and then she'll say she actually didn't. So with some cues here and there she can be the backbone of a song she's maybe only heard a few times. The part where I disagree is where you do this with 5 hours notice headlining a festival :)
@@Evy-1988Yeah we aren't downplaying what the man did here... That's something we are not going to do. Five hours WITHOUT A KIT for him to fill in, and the show went off without a hitch practically? Dudes a legend and that was not easy no matter which way you're lookin'. However this was much more possible for a drummer. He had to get the timings right bottom line, nothing else was essential. With guitar if you didn't know the songs you'd just be up there wanking it trying to find the right chords or something lol. Very hard to do. Impossible? Probably mot. Doable? Yeah I'm sure it is. You'd have to be much better than I, that's for certain.
I’ve played drums for 20+ years and this scenario stresses me out so bad. It sounds like it went as well as it realistically could have gone. I like that you mentioned he didn’t hit all the little things in the first show because that would have been literally impossible. What he did is so impressive it’s insane. And the fans should be so grateful that the show went on. What an experience. Holy shit.
Aussie crowds _LOVE_ shit like this! 🤘 We'll always cheer on the underdog, and we're pretty chill & realistic when it comes to situations like this... I've seen all sorts of stand-ins over the years, including guitarists & vocalists from other bands on the same tour _and even_ a drum tech filling in. The roar the crowd gave for that drum tech literally _shook_ the Hordern Pavilion building, and the band kept saying they should get him on stage more often if they got that kind of reaction! 😂 We don't get many opportunities to see these artists down under, and we also have a rock heritage built on live performance. So you'll find there's more recognition by audience members that shit happens & if you need to sub someone in, absolute respect to that guy or gal who steps into a tough situation. Frank Zummo & all the people who worked around the clock to pull those shows off = _absolute legends!_ 🤘🖤
Here you are saying you don't get an opportunity to see these artists as much... And here I am wishing Parkway Drive would make it over to the states more than once in a blue moon.... Best live show ever. I'll switch ya?
Hey mate, I was at the Sydney event, ECB were off the chain, really great show, the boys were so humble but they deserved that time slot. It was so hot, so muggy, and yall still brought it. Much love and respect
I was at the show in sydney and ofc being a drummer I noticed the tiny little things. I leaned over to the singer of my band who I was there with and said "Man Frank can make these minor "mistakes" sound so bloody good and I've never been more jealous" he turned to me and said "And that's why he's up there and you aren't" 🤣 Monster roast but he couldn't be more right, Frank is an absolutely incredible drummer and musician and considering the little to almost no notice he KILLED IT no questions asked.
I was there too, nothing but respect for the guy. I didn't realise his practice window was THAT small, and I'm even more impressed now. The energy was outstanding, from all the guys. Perhaps my best festival experience so far
I was at the Melbourne show and was very impressed knowing it was a last minute gig, I noticed some things that were different only cos I'm a muso myself but none of it sounded out of place, what an absolute legend 👏 🎉
Was at the Sydney show, my mates and I were saying no one will ever see frank play for electric callboy again outside of this tour, and he absolutely killed it! Easily the best live act I’ve ever seen
I’ve learned a set in two rehearsals, but was still massively nervous at the show. But 5 hours with no rehearsal is absolutely insane, I would have shit my pants and cried.
Don't get me wrong, it's pretty impressive he was able to do that in only 5 hours but let's be real, electric callboy songs are not particularly difficult for the drums
These kind of more improvised shows are the most memorable. If you tell someone you were at the EC show where the drummer from Sum 41 played, everyone will know which show you mean.
20yrs ago, I saw Lars Fredrickson play guitar with Dropkick Murphys last minute. Nailed it. Even did all the vocal harmonies with Al and Ken. I’ll never forget it.
This is what musicians do - help out if they can. I'm from a completely different musical world (brass band) but I've played with other bands last minute no rehearsal and other people have done the same for us. People who do this are the best people 👏
I was in Sydney. Frank nailed it. Sure, as a drummer it was noticeable everything wasn’t 100%, but none of it was “wrong” - just different. Honestly, a few of those non-100% bits I prefer to the original! 🤘🏻
attended the melbourne show and i genuinely could not notice a difference at all, i think the beauty of electric callboys shows are that the music is so much fun, you dont really notice the little things because your just in the moment and enjoying the music Thank you to you and the whole band and everyone for putting on such a phenomenonal show, the highlight of the night no suprises
Saw their set in Brisbane and it was AMAZING, you all definitely pulled it off and the crowd was absolutely nuts ! Thank you for the wonderful experience 😁
Kind of reminds me of a show I saw in 2018 or 19. Trivium was touring the sin and the sentence album with avatar and light the torch. Matt heafy had to fly back to Florida to be there for the birth of his kids and missed the last 3 shows of the tour. Instead of cancelling they got people to fill in for Matt’s guitar and vocals for a one of a kind show. Jared Dines filled in for Matt on guitar while Howard jones and Johannes from avatar did Matt’s vocals for the set. One of the coolest shows I’ve been to where the audience carried the band through their set while Howard and Johannes were learning the lyrics on the fly.
I've seen Frank live twice, once with SDC and with sum 41 in October and he's such an incredible drummer. Deserves so much praise. Seems like a true professional who just wants to drum
This is such a wonderful story! Great job and well delivered from Frank Zummo. Such a professional to step in without any rehearsal on another drummer's drum kit.
Having been to a number of shows with fill in musicians, even if I notice a difference as an audience member, it's way more cool to recognized the uniqueness of that nights version of a song. I've never been mad or upset that the live show was a bit different, even if I liked the recorded or previous live versions better. Maybe I'm not a 'normal' fan, but I don't go to live shows to see perfect reproductions of a recorded experience or even the exact same experience between nights. It's the little improv and fun unique differences that happen all the time that make going to live shows so worth it.
I was at the Melbourne Good things festival it was fuckin amazing and seeing this video puts the cherry on top to understand what went down. One of the best experiences I've had at a festival 💜🤘🏻
After all the negativity and bullshit in music recently it's honestly amazing to see the good side for a change. No bullshit, just "you need this, we can't perform so let's get together so the show can go on". Pure professionalism, love to see it.
That’s wild. Much love and healing to David. That’s incredible of Frank. It’s really cool that you’re shouting him out like this. Love your channel and your content!!!
LOVE THESE STORIES. I have worked in media adjacently in rock music and live shows, so seeing this wonderful turn of events with logistics, talented people, and the challenging circumstances of it all is fufilling to see. I would love to see more stories like this, Tank.
One of the reasons i love your channel is that you know the effort it takes to put a show together and the work done by all the people behind the scenes. Its awesome to hear how intense it gets behind the stage and i love that you shoutout everyone who works hard to put on a good sbow
It was so sick that you guys managed to work it all out and Frank is absolutely insane to have been able to pull that off, what a legend. It was awesome in the pit, managed to convince two of my mates to come with me to melbourne, purely because of Electric Callboy, and they had a blast. I know it's probs gonna be a year or two till the boys are back, but can't wait to see them for the 4th time!
Aussie here, at the Melbourne show Electric Callboy were hands down the best act at the festival, Frank's drumming was amazing and the energy was so great from the whole band. Very impressed.
10:30 This! Don't get me wrong, what Frank did was absolutely outstanding and amazing! But the most important in this situation is that the band can absolutely trust that he would nailed the music structure at the same time being comfortable and knows how a gig with this size works. If them start to get distract about if the drummer would play right than being focused in their own performance, the show is ruined. Tank, the brands that endorsees him understood the emergency of the situation or you guys got problems with it?
So rad! I was in a band that didn't have a bassist, just I acoustic and 1 electric guitar and drums. We met a guy, ran through our set once, then he played though with us and we played a show that night
Was at the show in Brisbane, had never heard an electric call boy set or even a song (went to watch Korn & Northlane) mate of mine next to me in the pit, who is a massive fan said “just wait till you hear these guys”. I thought after about 3 songs, shit this drummer goes hard 😂😂😂
What a great story, it is so nice when the music community come together to help each other out, but this does not surprise me as I know we are all pretty good folk!
Just watched a video of EC's set with Frank. Absolutely amazing with only 5 hours to learn. Been in similar situations over the years as a bass player. Either filling in or having a drummer fill in. Beyond important for a bass/ drummer to be on the same page. The way EC plays with playbacks makes it even more impressive! Amazing!!
It's always so satisfying to listen a professional talk about other professionals and giving props to them. True pros are into true art, as it should be!
You definitely deserved your award for videos like this. I always like how you talk so openly about your touring work and issues like tipping and Ticketmaster's monopoly.
Dude, I was in Melbourne and Frank absolutely killed it! By the time Tekkno Train was in the verse I knew you were in good hands. With how much I listen to EC and have been in the studio / on stage so I *did* notice the parts where Frank didn't pick up on a part or slow down, but he made it work every time and was on a more fitting beat within a couple of bars. Didn't hear about anything about David being sick until the Sleeping with Sirens set right before EC, when someone was talking about it next to me, and word spread FAST around the festival. Was very much a memorable show, 4th time seeing EC in 3 years now. Hoping for another Australian tour soon, EC boys and crew crush it every time
Must have been sad for Sum41 as well that they weren't able to play. So in that context both them and EC were the obvious dream team to pull this off... Hats of to everyone who made this possible at such short notice. @Tank: sleep well, be safe and see you in the next video 🙂
I was at the Brisbane Good Things festival last week and saw Electric Callboy and what an epic set. Frank Zummo absolutely nailed it and I was blown away when they told the crowd Frank had learn their entire set within an hour. While obviously the whole situation must have been difficult for everyone behind the scenes …the opposite was the vibe on stage and one of the best shows I’ve seen. Good job guys, you rock and the whole festival was amazing and thank you!
When you've been playing drums for so many years, doing something else while playing your drums almost becomes second nature to be honest. But still, Frank is a legend for pulling that off with such a short notice! Mad respect to him!
Being at the Brisbane show, and seeing electric callboy for the second time. They absolutely smashed it. Brang the energy, hyped the crowd, and was not sure how Korn we’re going to put on a better show. Callboy could of been the festival headliner for sure!! Great work.
I have never been to a live show - local to international acts - that have been played exactly to the album. one of the things I love is hearing how the groups change things in the heat of the moment. I'd have loved to see this show because it's kind of like a mini-supergroup almost.
It was such a fun night and the set was amazing. Crowd when nuts when EC started playing. Also thank you for taking the time to chat and get a photo with me at The Brightside afterparty is Brisbane. Absolute legend Tank!
First and foremost, I hope everything with David is alright, and I hope he is doing better. Secondly, I'm glad that the entire situation at least had a great resolution. Kudos to everyone working together and just absolutely nailing the shows. Thirdly, and I'm not just saying this because you're sponsored, but I absolutely LOVE Raycon. I got my first pair of Raycon earbuds like, 4-5 years ago and they lasted until around March 2024. I honestly think they would've lasted longer if I had changed the ear mushrooms to a smaller one so they fit in my ear better (one of them fell out at work, hitting the floor and bouncing a couple times.) This is why you trust your instincts and keep those mushroom covers in a memorable place so you can use the correct ones. The earbud still worked even though it fell (and it wasn't the first time I'd accidentally knocked it out), but it just sounded a little muffled. Either way, I had gotten a pair of the Everyday earbuds and was so excited. My first Raycon earbuds, was my first "expensive" wireless earbuds (and by that I mean not just picking up a random pair from Walmart). They really are worth it. So for those of you who haven't tried out Raycon before, you should definitely head to the link in the description and use Tech's code for a pair! And if you already have a pair... have you ever thought about treating yourself to a 2nd pair? ~wiggles eyebrows~
I was at the Melbourne good things and thought it was fantastic how he slid straight in and kept the feeling and drive of the band live. There was some half time drumming he did during the chorus of Mind-reader and I genuinely thought it added to the song. Was very good.
I like to say “I ran sound” for a few bands… I did what I was told as I watched the mix for band monitors. I loved getting to meet some cool people, country mostly in west Texas. But I did save a drummer who plays in a gstring while the lead singer chops up a stool with a chainsaw.. he had absolutely zero sticks. It was after 5 and all the shops had closed. I made a few calls and sped across town taking every stick I had and then got another half dozen from a buddies and got back just before they were about to go on. The rest of the nights I was on the house mix but only while the actually trained sound guy was getting a drink or talking with one of the chicks that always think the sound guy is the way to get to the band.. the biggest concert I worked was Cross Canadian Ragweed and Aaron Watson. The production company was just a part time job. I was actually still serving on Active Duty in the USAF. Unfortunately I got hurt which mean I could no longer do gigs and after surgeries and all that comes with those I ended up being medically retired. I never got to watch a big production do a giant show. I loved it though and getting to know some of the band members. Hell, I’d be stoked to actually have friends. We only live near my bro-in-law and his family… I rarely leave the house. It hard to just stroke up to a person and say hi, would you be my friend.
I couldn't be more grateful a solution was found and the show went ahead. The weather was massively dicey too but i waited in the rain for a couple hours in Melb for EC, in fact, they were the main reason I went! Having seen them November 2023 at their own headlining show and been to literally 100s of concerts, dude the energy for EC is something I probably haven't seen since the early 2000s! Everyone was just smiling, having a ball, dancing and singing. Easily one of the absolute best live acts ever! They just keep getting bigger here and I expect shows to sell out in seconds next time they come. Hopefully the do an all ages as my 6 year old nephew is devo he couldn't see them at good things! Thanks heaps for this video Tank, love your work!
I was there in the Sydney crowd for Good Things. Man what a day. It was raining pretty much all day. Crowds were warned to arrive late due to lightning, so I personally arrived just in time to see Bowling for Soup. The rain didn't stop until about 4pm which was when Jet was playing. I just need to say, Electric Callboy nailed it. I know they only got bumped to co-headline act due to Sum41 - but this proves they deserved it. There was so much energy in the crowd and the crowd popped off. Frank is an absolute beast- and yeah. I didn't pick up on any small things he missed.

Just set up ableton Live to replace any musician. Just in case
Hats off to those amazing musicians that are able to fill in to keep the train rolling.
honestly the idea of something like this (also a guitarist who's been playing for 20+ years actually) really excites me.
Dudes a
legend and that was not easy no matter which way you're lookin'.
You'd have to be much better than I, that's for certain.
was in the crowd in brisbane, it was flawless and it was great to have him fill in. EC were highlight of the festival absolutely fantastic live
My 15 yr old daughter went to her first big event Good Thing's. She said Electric Callboy was the best set she saw.
Jesus what a Legend. No hesitation, 5h of dry practice and he nailed it :D
We don't get many opportunities to see these artists down under, and we also have a rock heritage built on live performance.
Couldn't agree more. I was glad the rain cleared up in time for Northlane, and the EC boys/Frank played a KILLER show. I'm still feeling the buzz
Damn, dude is an absolute LEGEND. Thats how you can truly tell when someone is an experienced, professional musician.
I was at the show in sydney and ofc being a drummer I noticed the tiny little things. I leaned over to the singer of my band who I was there with and said "Man Frank can make these minor "mistakes" sound so bloody good and I've never been more jealous" he turned to me and said "And that's why he's up there and you aren't" 🤣
Monster roast but he couldn't be more right, Frank is an absolutely incredible drummer and musician and considering the little to almost no notice he KILLED IT no questions asked.
But 5 hours with no rehearsal is absolutely insane, I would have shit my pants and cried.
cool story, I hope David gets well. Reminds me of "48 hours to learn the setlist" for Floors first show with Nightwish, but maybe even more extreme
Don't get me wrong, it's pretty impressive he was able to do that in only 5 hours but let's be real, electric callboy songs are not particularly difficult for the drums
I'd actually argue you on that one.
that dude has the old adage "The Show Must Go On" in his DNA... Respect 🤘😠
Electric Callboy made the show for me. Sunburnt and exhausted but they brought all the energy back
These kind of more improvised shows are the most memorable. If you tell someone you were at the EC show where the drummer from Sum 41 played, everyone will know which show you mean.
This is a wild story! Frank sounds like a really good dude!
Also!
Congratulations on winning Nik's Award for best Metal Content Creator!
People who do this are the best people 👏
What a *sick* story, Frank is a legend! Love hearing stories about how awesome people in the industry can be.
I was in Sydney. Frank nailed it. Sure, as a drummer it was noticeable everything wasn’t 100%, but none of it was “wrong” - just different. Honestly, a few of those non-100% bits I prefer to the original! 🤘🏻
I was at the Sydney show and was blown away by his performance and the band in general!
They were the highlight of my day! The energy was amazing!
attended the melbourne show and i genuinely could not notice a difference at all, i think the beauty of electric callboys shows are that the music is so much fun, you dont really notice the little things because your just in the moment and enjoying the music
Thank you to you and the whole band and everyone for putting on such a phenomenonal show, the highlight of the night no suprises
I cannot shout out enough the guy for coming to your help at the eleventh hour! As the saying goes " A friend in need is a friend indeed!"
Thank you for reacting to my brother's band (blacktoothed) a few years ago. That's how I found you and I've really been enjoying the content.
Sydney show was sick, well done everyone. The little Sum 41 nod was a fun add on too.
So much love and respect for Frank stepping up like that. What a legend!
Kudos to you @TankTheTech for sharing this recognition
I was at the Melbourne festival show, and it blew our minds seeing who was playing drums. It was an amazing show. I loved seeing them!
This is the content that makes this channel pretty bad ass. Keep it going Tank!
And does everyone know? This guy works for Electric Callboy. 🤘
I actually thought the Electric callboy show was the best show of the night. You guys put on an amazing show and I’m grateful I got to experience it
It was so sick that you guys managed to work it all out and Frank is absolutely insane to have been able to pull that off, what a legend.
This warmed my little musician heart. It's nice to see that, even at such a large event, the community still comes through.
Straight up amazing so much love and praise to frank. Hes the man for jumping in no questions asked. ❤❤❤❤
Hope you had fun in Australia, the guys were great as always, sum 41s drummer was awesome
I was at the Melbourne show and it was amazing as always!!
What a great story, it is so nice when the music community come together to help each other out, but this does not surprise me as I know we are all pretty good folk!
I was there, and Frank absolutely crushed that Melbourne show: legendary!!!
I attended Brisbane Good Things Festival and Electric Callboy went off thank you to everyone involved
Dude, Frank is literally everything I aspire to be; this story is so cool! I hope everybody is feeling better
Thanks Tank. Saw you there and yelled out. Frank killed it. Love you all
Just watched a video of EC's set with Frank. Absolutely amazing with only 5 hours to learn. Been in similar situations over the years as a bass player. Either filling in or having a drummer fill in. Beyond important for a bass/ drummer to be on the same page. The way EC plays with playbacks makes it even more impressive! Amazing!!
Saw Sum 41 live here in Austin a couple months ago, dude is an animal!
Props to him for stepping up and stepping in! Great job!!
It's always so satisfying to listen a professional talk about other professionals and giving props to them. True pros are into true art, as it should be!
That is awesome man, what a great story and memory that will be for years to come.
Hoping for another Australian tour soon, EC boys and crew crush it every time
Frank Zummo’s one of the nicest guy’s we’ve ever met, such a wonderful person and an incredibly talented musician
Must have been sad for Sum41 as well that they weren't able to play. So in that context both them and EC were the obvious dream team to pull this off... Hats of to everyone who made this possible at such short notice. @Tank: sleep well, be safe and see you in the next video 🙂
Watched some videos from the Good Things Festival in Sydney. Frank Zummo... what a mashine... crazy 🔥🔥🔥
I'm SO looking forward to Christian's Aussie vlog drop to see all of this happening BTS
I did not expect this crossover - I mean my fav band ever Sum41 x EC - my fav band in recent months. Awesome that everybody enjoyed it tho
It was such a fun night and the set was amazing. Crowd when nuts when EC started playing. Also thank you for taking the time to chat and get a photo with me at The Brightside afterparty is Brisbane. Absolute legend Tank!
I was at the Brisbane Good Things and the guys played such an incredible set.
Yes! I've been waiting to hear about this story! Amazing
Absolutely Love These Road Story Videos
I was at the Melbourne good things and thought it was fantastic how he slid straight in and kept the feeling and drive of the band live. There was some half time drumming he did during the chorus of Mind-reader and I genuinely thought it added to the song. Was very good.
Was at the Brisbane show he was fucking amazing the hole band was locked in was so happy to see them on the big stage this year
Saw you guys in Brisbane. Honestly, so amazing the work y'all put in for such a great show.
Let's be friends brotha
Electric Callboy are incredible live. Saw them in Pittsburgh a year ago. Did not disappoint!
Not even Show was saved but it was made very UNIQUE! Great job keep them amazing memories coming!
I was at the Melbourne show and electric callboy was my highlight of the day, absolutely loved them!
