    One of the best baseball card video videos I’ve seen in a while.
    You’ve summarized where I’m heading with the cards to collect as well.

    Vintage cards with great eye appeal are what I try to find, I love getting raw cards at a good price that I believe will grade mid-grade but have great eye appeal. I think I need to also start looking at buying graded cards with the same philosophy. Absolutely love your 71 Jackson man that is a beautiful card.

    I collect 1980’s-present Hall of Fame rookie cards, but I use your exact philosophy when buying my cards too.
    I buy a lot of perfectly centered PSA 8’s instead of 9’s and save a load of $$$. For example, I bought a 1980 Topps Rickey Henderson PSA 8 for $325, 1981 Topps Joe Montana PSA 8 for $400, and 1986 Topps Jerry Rice PSA 8 for $300. All perfectly centered as those prices are at the high end of PSA 8. If I would have bought those cards in PSA 9’s, they would been $2,000 each. So I was able to get perfectly centered Hall of Fame rookie cards a grade lower and saved about $5,000.
    I recently bought a 2003 Topps Chrome Lebron PSA 8 for $1,100. The front of the card looks like a PSA 10 as it’s perfectly centered. If I bought a PSA 9, it would have cost me $2,000+. The key is be patient and you’ll find the lower grade centered card.
    I’m moving into vintage next, with the same philosophy as you. Low grade, well-centered. Just trying to figure out if I’m going to delve into just vintage baseball or vintage baseball, basketball, football and hockey?

      Sorry for delayed reply my Sat and sundays are my work days. Chris this was an epic comment to read. I love how your doing it. It just does not make any sense to pay thousands of dollars for a vintage card in high grade. There is no wrong way to go as far as what sport you end up hunting for vintage. You can always mix and max leaves more room for you to find centered lower grades. So glad you left this comment made me smile. Good luck with the collection Chris so stoked . Double SHaka

    Love the video! This is my philosophy all the way when buying vintage. Give me well centered 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s all day long! All I care about is great centering and no creases. That makes the great eye appeal. I just picked up a beautiful 1958 Aaron SGC 2 for $100. Corners are rounded a bit but it is dead centered and no creases. Keep up the great work!

    Love this video. Only thing I’ll say for me personally, when looking at a card online, centering is definitely the thing that sticks out. But when looking at a card in hand, it takes a back seat for me to most of the other categories. Big difference for me between looking at a card online vs in person. Interesting discussion with our lives being more web based now.

    Dylan, awesome points about understanding and taking advantage of the grading scale! I'm more of a corners guy but nonetheless I am so happy for you! Looking forward to your cat's pajama! Clearly, this is next level cool speech! I'm still acclimating to cherry sic! Been contemplating, for example, if a sweet vintage card with an orange background would be more appropriately described as citrus sic instead of cherry sic? Can we mix and match? For example, cherry sic pajama card?! Well, I need to stay in my lane and not risk an attempt at cool speech that would totally expose me as uncool! You have such an AMAZING collection, but I love the fact that you are not satisfied and are doing the work to mold it into precisely the type of collection you want! You are Da Cherry Sic Pajama Man! 😊

I love that you're going in this direction, I don't necessarily care as much about centering as you do, but I 100% agree that the best purchases out there are high eye appeal vintage cards with low technical grades. BTW, when the video started I was so expecting you to walk through the door in a smoking jacket or something 😄

    Vintage baseball , eye appeal. Spot-on. You are not wrong! I remember that in the early 1980s, off center was not even an issue. I remember thinking the same as a kid with the 1979 Topps photos of Cobb and Hornsby on cards. That MVP card was not in the real 1983 Donruss set that I remember.

    You think sgc is a good idea for grading vintage?

  • @jchcollins
    @jchcollins Год назад +1

    I can understand I guess if you are moving higher grade (7 range +) cards that are less than perfectly centered for lower grade (3 - 5 range) cards that are better centered. But on the whole, mild and moderately OC cards do not bother me. 1. It's how they were made. (Yeah, yeah, everyone uses that as an excuse. But it's true. And in a world riddled by TPG scandal, OC cards can actually provide an additional measure of authenticity pacification. I digress...) 2. The cost savings can be dramatic, especially compared to the crowd that wants only NM, centered cards. 3. To me, unless just like 100/0 or miscut, mostly slightly OC cards just don't look that bad. I'd rather have a card that is 70/30 s-s and has a nice image and color than one that is perfectly centered, but has focus or color or print problems. That's just me.

    • @DoubleDvintagebaseballcards
      @DoubleDvintagebaseballcards  Год назад +1

      Hi John,
      I Totally understand your points and they are valid. Im glad we all have different preferences. Also i agree cost is everything when buying cards I could have gone on that tangent for an hr in itself ha ha. OC cards almost always cost less but for me I am willing to spend a bit more especially considering most of my purchases are in the $20-$50 range so the centered premium is not really there on most of my buys. I have paid extra no doubt for some bigger ones but im good with that. I love these types of topics and its fun because in all reality we just collect what makes us happy. Thank you for the comment and watching much appreciated 🤙🏻🤙🏻

      Anthony,
      I can understand that on that example expect for the price difference witch is the entire point. I could own 5 copys of the 4 vs the 1 copy of the PSA 7. I am so glad you watched and left a great comment about that. I was a sharp corners guys for 30 years and totally understand that as well.
