This is my favourite song on this album. Rob Baker's haunting slide guitar matches the tragic story of this guys life who has spent 18 years in prison for killing his sister's rapist.
Canada's house band. They weren't the most talented or renowned but up here they were the most popular. Almost a third of the country tuned into their final concert. I watched it at a viewing party on my buddy's 80" plasma with about 50 other people. 😊
Ummm..super talented musicians lol. I liked the simplicity of Gords singing on albums...ive seen great live performances from Gord but sometimes I thought it was over done ....I'll get hated on now lol
True story. On Jul. 10, 1972, 14 inmates escaped from the newly opened Millhaven Institution Maximum Security Prison, a day many Kingston Ontario area residents will never forget.
I used to drive long haul with my father, a country music fan. Late one night, at about two in the morning, dad couldn't sleep, and got up to keep me company while I drove. I was listening to the Hip, and 38 years old came on. He told me about what it was like in Ontario at that time, the fear and hysteria, the manhunts, etc. I'll never forget that night. Miss you, dad.
You should check out their Woodstock 99 set here on RUclips... they opened for Day 2, and absolutely kicked ass. Crowd was full of Canadian flags. Gord was in his own world, adlibbing stories and improvising like nobody I've ever heard before, except maybe Jim Morrison. He was definitely on a level all his own. A buddy of mine was kitchen manager at The Town Pump in Vancouver, and he met these guys a few times. Heck... he even met Nirvana. Dang!
Story telling is the Hip's forte. This song is a story that needs to be listened to, Love the reaction. Stay Safe

OH CANADA....
Another haunting song by the Hip. Excellent. There is a complexity in their simplicity.
Great story. The vocal performance adds just the right feeling and emphasis. Like the guitar work on this one as well.

It's been a long time since I heard this one. 🔥 I used to cover it as part of an acoustic duo act.
they still stare at their shoes when they pass our place . . . if you haven't lived it, you can;t understand it
Vocally, my favorite songs on the album. Also, great piece of story telling..
Hey JP, if you are enjoying this then you’ll really dig their stuff when you make your way to their Fully Completely LP.
Similar favourite song I feel also a bit haunting would be *"Locked In The Trunk Of A Car"*
This song is so dark and old school
The ended up recording a song Later based on a true story about David Milgard wrongfully sent to prison for murder
Wheat Kings?

I have nothing to say but I want to help JPan's RUclips metrics.
Nice song. I actually like Gord's voice on this one. Maybe he's starting to grow on me.
