Shechem
At Shechem is where all the beginning of the Nation of Israel occurred.
At Shechem Abraham received the original promise that he would inherit the land. Gen 12:7
At Shechem, Jacob purchased the part of field where in the future , Joseph his son would be buried as recorded in Joshua 24:32
At Shechem, the 12 tribes of Israel preformed the first ceremony of covenant upon their entrance into the PROMISED LAND ( Joshua 8:30-35)
At Shechem Joshua summoned the 12 elders of the twelve tribes of Israel and they rededicated themselves to serving God.(Joshua 24)
Shechem is the name of the city in the Old testament.
In the New Testament Shechem is called Sychar ( John 4:5)
Jesus met the Samaritan woman at Jacob's Well at Sychar or Shechem.
Today the city is in West bank and has an Arabic name Nablus.
