  • The deadly Inchcape Reef, eleven miles off the east coast of Scotland, terrorised seamen for centuries. Robert Stevenson's plans to build a lighthouse on the almost permanently submerged rocks was widely ridiculed, but against all odds, he succeeded, and it continues to save lives.
An epic story of design and construction. The Bell Rock Lighthouse is considered to be an industrial wonder of the world.
I was inspired to write this when I discovered the tower of the lighthouse was made from Kingoodie stone quarried near my home.
