Lyric:
f I was free from you my darling
I would start my life a new
We've been tied down, oh so long dear
I no longer can be true
Now I know that I should tell you
It would be the thing to do
But I haven't got the heart to say
I'm not in love with you
Just suppose that I should leave you
Take another for my own
Just suppose that I forsake you
Break my vows and leave you alone
Well, I'm ashamed down deep inside
That I have ever been untrue
But I haven't got the heart to say
I'm not in love with you
Don't get better than these early Webb songs, The Wondering Boy at his best
Love these early Webb songs, actually I love most all Webb music, juat love the early ones better
You got it.
Lucky me, I walked into the Louisiana Hayride and Webb Pierce was on the stage singing Silver Bells (something or other) I haven't heard that song since, but at 80 I still listen to him several times a week. He and Hank are still the best. We could frequently smell the foul winds that came from the paper mill in his home town, West Monroe, what a random chance that the small town in Louisiana would produce a guy like him. He did good, who wouldn"t love to have had that voice.
Edger, Sounds like you were at the Hayride about when I was, the '50's. Was in that area from late 1949
To late 1952. Stationed at Barksdale AFB. Went to the Hayride often. Even married a Shreveport girl in '51.
