    you can tell what a huge influence Mick Green was on Wilco Johnson's guitar playing.

      Indeed - Wilco had many of his own ideas and style but Mick Green's use of power chords in particular was a pivotal influence. I do now know where Wilco got it from !

    I saw them at my senior school at Stafford a year or 2 after I left (so ‘76 or ‘77) and can still replay Mick Green in his black and white striped leggings being pole axed by an electrical shock. IIRC correctly there was a break and then he came back on to finish the set. What a legend.

    Too right..I caught The Pirates live at Scunthorpe Tiffanys of all places and they blew the place apart.
    Mick Green was a relentless wall of sound..stood there sweating his balls off ,legs apart...Ive never heard such power from a Telecaster.
    RIP Mick...many thanks to Frank and Johnny for a great gig that still is fondly remembered.

      Bo Diddley appropriated this song from Chuck Willis' ballad (and rocked it up).

    @geminiaxeman You have to be joking! I recorded a better version than that in 1964 and our version STILL didnt hold a candle to johnny kidd and the Pirates version.
    And live? Incredible. First opened for them at the Rex ballroom in Cambridge in the early sixties.
    We thought we were pretty good till they went on.

  • @shadoogie61
    @shadoogie61 11 лет назад +2

    Yeah they might be but Mick pioneered playing rhythm and lead at the same time and whilst the guys you mention are great, they are not as exciting to watch and listen to (for me anyway)
