In this video, we are going somewhere we’ve never gone before. For the first time ever, we visited an Asian 3 michelin star restaurant. In Singapore, we find our restaurant for today. Zen.
It was opened by Swedish chef Bjorn Frantzen and the Executive Chef is Tristan Farmer.
Tristan joined the Frantzen group in 2018 as Executive Chef at Zen. He got his first two Michelin stars within one year of opening and the third in 2021.
They have a 9 course tasting menu for €400.

You guys wrote a lot of questions in the comments, but unfortunately I don't have enough time to answer them one by one.
So we figured we'd do a Q&A on instagram on Tuesday. See you there! 🙏🏻

Will it have a replay on youtube?
dunno why/how the YT algorithm suggested your video to me....but im glad it did. Terrific channel you have going here, keep it up!
How can we vote this channel as youtube's best new channel for 2023 for real? Amazing that I was here when he had 2.5k subs and that was just a month or two ago. Congrats Alexander, well deserved.
Why don't you ask your momma ? Maybe she'll tell you wat u really have to be doing right now .
Whats so good about it?mediocre at best
Some of these comments are so rude
@@SuperKendoman yea ? , so wat are you gonna do about it ?
For real !
Alex's videos just keep getting better and better.
He provides very clear context of the restaurant, the culture, the Chef and his team, with concise description of well, everything. No jargon no bullshit.
Lots of respect to you Alexander the Great (eater)
He also doesn’t brush over the food and film himself eating while saying “amazing”. Thank you Alex!
The thing I like about his videos are he keeps it real. No fawning over a restaurant because it's won awards in the past. He calls out their shortcomings very quickly if he doesn't like their dish or if they messed up their service.
Lot of good words from experienced RUclips watchers like yourself , thank you for sharing your expertise . How many Michelin star restaurants have you been to , may I ask ? .
@@Ar21347 me? I've been to 20-25? Only 1 3 star restaurant tho.

As a Singaporean I'm glad it's not a restaurant from mbs or rws. This one is special. Hope u loved the hawker food there. Noone goes there without trying one.
There's no 3 stars in MBS or RWS. Only National Gallery, Shaw Centre and here in Chinatown
@@pf993 yes very true but the amount of attention they get is very very disappointing.
Amazing country. Such a hard-working nation.
It’s interesting how 3 Michelin star restaurants can be so different in service interaction yet achieve the same level of warmth
Guess there's many paths on the road the the ever elusive perfection.
Honestly, the teams at every restaurant you attend must be so proud of what they achieve daily. It's an incredible experience and Zen beautifully demonstrates everything you could possibly want from a cosy, luxury dining establishment. Incredible.
I’ve had the privilege to visit Frantzén in Stockholm a few years ago. It was about the best food I’ve ever had, of course. But the staff and the service... they went into the realms of magic. I’ll never forget them.
I love how such a simple thing (such as ringing the doorbell instead of just walking in) can make such a difference in setting the tone for the evening. The fact that they maintained that ambiance is a testament to the skills of that team. This was a meal I would gladly pay 400 euros for. Thanks for the video!
Amazing video! I would like to see your honest reaction while eating at your own restaurant
Couldn't agree more! Been dying to see some videos about his restaurant, maybe some behind the scenes looks of how a Michelin restaurant is run from a management/business perspective
Wanna see also videos of he's own restaurant
Videos about his own restaurant would really be interesting
Yeah , great idea.... Bring it on. Think I'll go and review Alexander the guest.
This is an amazing idea!
As a Swede it's amazing to see an exclusive, posh Morakniv (knife from the city of Mora), pop up from nowhere. Here it's a common, outdoor, everyday sort of item found in most homes, often used for whittling and such.
To be honest... I've see these knives in person before, and in that context I was like "meh, they're knives for cutting steak, a little dull, a little ugly, hand-painted and quirky."
Then of course they look really pretty in this video, nestled in the wooden box and with that dim romantic lighting.
Just goes to show that environment can really change things. As part of the experience at Zen, probably looked really awesome there and then (and of course every single thing there - which is what you're paying for when eating such an expensive meal!)
@@jiahaotan696 I agree they are quite ugly and quirky af. But they wont be dull, ever :) Swede rh
@@Etvaaa Well, I so happened to see them in for sharpening when I was working at a knife shop. Lol!
As a Former Chef i love to Watch your Videos to every Detail.
Its so hard to bring These special Experiences closer to people who arent aware of what is possible in hospitality.
I was sick of hearing things like: „So little food for so much Money“.
Thank you for your Service for the gastronomy and keep up the good work
You went from 40k subs to nearly a 100k in no time! Great job Alexander, love the content.
I love that you mention the existence of non-alcoholic drink options.
Coming from someone unable to afford this expensive food I think you do a fantastic job explaining and expressing what you taste and feel. I love every single video you make so please keep doing them :)
bjorn is smart, doing the exact same thing in another place. Tristan is good, smart and hardworking. But nothing from his menu is his own.
We ate at frantzen last januari and at zen two weeks later. We ate the exact same menu. Both great, but felt kinda weird we ate the same menu in 2 weeks 10.000km apart.
there is no one who comes close to this level of videography when it comes to these restaurants, love the videos.
As someone who has visited Frantzen and admired Björn Frantzen for a long time this video was an absolute treat. Loving the content and the quality keeps on improving!
Just finished the video, how you direct and narrate never cease to amaze me. Thank you for bringing this experience alive, super wholesome, super sensory 🎉
GRATS ON 100k!!!
It goes to show that when things are done with real passion, a restaurant review becomes something so compelling. A brilliant channel, brilliant presenter (love the channel name), definitely one of the best on RUclips. A minor point: this particular menu converts to €475 approx when you include the tax and service
I’m Singaporean and I’m so glad that you shared your experience at Zen with us! Everything looks well thought out, from the menu to wine pairing to dining in different rooms, and even the chinaware. Service looks authentic and warm without being stiff. And of course those food shots are spectacular (not a good idea watching this at night heh). Cheers Alexander, can’t wait for your reviews of Odette and Les Amis!
What a wonderful experience. The staff look happy in their work and it does give the feeling of dining in the home of a treasured friend. Life has been very stressful of late, and I find your videos to be calming and especially in this case, Zen!
Amazing video. You will get to 1 mil subs in no time 🎉
I subscribed at 1K subs, I knew this channel was going to blow up fast. The sheer quality alone is astounding. Worthy of a channel with 6-7 figure subs.
My favorite restaurant review channel. Thank you for sharing your experience.
You nailed it once again Alexander. Fantastic presentation
This guy literally had like 49k subs last month and now he has hit over 100k! Congrats Alex.
Alexander your passion.
Really showed here. It was a joy to watch this.
Incredible how you captured and conveyed the "at home" feeling. Love these videos.
As always i look forward for your weekly video. Thank you so much for the efforts put in.
really enjoy those videos, you structure them so well with a little history and all the detail you mention. very nice!
Mr. Alexander, I love your videoes and hope and pray for the quality or concept of your content never changes, as you gain more and more subscribers.
Amazing videos, Alex! Your channel is one of the best on this platform and deserves more subs!
Alex, fantastic video as always and great to see you try other restaurants outside of Europe!
Many others have already said it but your information and storytelling is top notch and straight to the point. Love it!
Alexander, you’re videos are just getting better and better, thank you so much!
I truly enjoy your content!!!! Thanks for all the effort :)
This channel is so good, I love exploring these restaurants with you and seeing these beautiful places and dishes
Thanks for the feature! 📸
Your experiences are amazing, so is your enthusiastic style of describing them. Thank you and keep the great work on.
Great video as always. Love your energy!
Keep doing what you are doing Alex. You are opening the world of fine dining to people like me who are not privileged to experience it yet!
Once again as per your usual specifications. A stellar job. RUclips recommended this channel to me when you were just starting at fewer than 8000 subs I believe and I've watched every release that you've put out in a timely manner. Your reviews have the perfect blend of detail and storytelling. I hope the other restaurants that you visited while in my home country impress you with same level of panache and excellence that Zen has done.
Best channel recommendation ever. Thrilled with your content
Absolutely amazing stuff. Staff seemed the perfect combination of friendly and informal yet incredibly efficient and professional. The food…hard to find words. So elegant. Thanks for another great video!
Incredible video as ALWAYS, i would love for you to come to Villa Crespi in Italy, to Cannavacciuolo's restaurant. It's my favorite chef, an incredible person and would love to see your stile of video on him.
Wow what a review!! Glad you enjoyed SG!! Many more amazing experiences to be had all across Asia
Simply outstanding!!!! Thank you!
This guy is the best so crazy how quick he’s reached 100k (although not surprising) one of my must watches as soon as he puts out a new video
We had a similar experience at Frantzen. Not cheap but quite memorable.
Great to enjoy your video once again Alex. You do realise that your fans expect a video EVERY WEEK now....No pressure sir 🙏
Really great video! I’m glad you went to Asia. I used to live there. Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Thailand, and the Philippines. I’ve also been to Singapore. Nice small city. This restaurant looked really nice. Cool. I loved their concept about moving to different areas within the restaurant as you progress to each course. This adds some variety and makes it a bit adventurous. I also loved how eclectic their menu is. The staff was amazing too. Like you said. I like that they are casual yet still great service. Not so stiff even though it’s a very nice restaurant. This helps to break the ice. I will definitely go there on my next trip to Singapore. Thank you again!
Its worth every penny for the experience and quality of food at Zen.
Nothing less than perfect, together with the great pairing of your voice.. describing the dishes!
Thanks for the great content.
8:42 I left a comment on a different video that the only thing I missed in your video was a couple reactions to the food. This is exactly what I wanted to see, the emotion as you try it. Thank you Chef!
zén's "Onion Soup" is ridiculously good. And that's one of the dishes does not being replaced or changed since it was opened.
thanks again for taking us with you
The day that Alex passes up a 2008 Krug, the world has ended
😂🙏
First of all i really love your video they are so well produced and your commentary is spot on. I would find it very interesting after you finished your journey if you could rank the experiences you had. Thank you for these beautiful videos!
It is so nice to see such quality, thoughtful and well-put together content here on youtube, whereas most of the platform is flooded with attention-grabbing, short spanned clickbait content. This channel is without a doubt my best new youtube find this year. I look forward to each video.
The originality of this restaurant blew me away! Congratulations to all the staff!
I love your videos, I saw your first one the hour it came out and I feel like I'm a journey with you.
This is the best one, I own an establishment and I have never felt motivated by one of your videos until now.
Keep up the good work.
That is next level... Thank you for taking us on this journey!
Alex your channel is amazing! Thank you
I binged this channel in no time, awesome work 👍👍
Wow. your narration creates an incredible anticipation and empathy that gives understanding of a magnificent taste experience. Thinking of visiting your restaurant as soon as possible.
Just found your channel an hour ago and watched your latest 3 videos in one go, really love your review style and pace! Pity Singapore isn't high on my list of places to visit, but this video made me really enthusiastic to visit Zen!
Going to Singapore this winter. Gonna save up for this experience. Won’t be able to ball out on the wines / champagne but the food is what I’m most excited to try. One of the best vibes for a restaurant I’ve seen on your channel. I like how Michelin is giving restaurants like this their deserved stars and not having it to be like the old French way.
Start looking for reservations already because this kinda restaurants usually are really hard to get reservations for and in general have months of reservations in advance.
There's good food to be had in our hawker centres and some particular shopping malls etc. Be sure to try the whole range of prices... That said, the majority of hawker centre food is salty and unhealthy, and the majority of cheaper restaurants are a hard pass. Happy searching.
🙏 Thanks for the playlist and sharing your experience 👍
Production value is through the roof, another great video
Wow! Everything looks mouthwateringly perfect! ✨️
Discovered your channel two days ago and ... Wow ! Amazing work, which is reflected in the growth of the channel.
Keep going, I can't wait to discover more of what the great chefs of the world have to offer !
Congrats for 100k subs! 🎉
This kind of menu you can see at any the high-end restaurant but Zen' given you a whole package from entrance music to food on the table, most importantly is the true chemistry from chef, servers...in general, I say people that made it different. This guy Alex is one of the fantastic culinary judge.
Man, your videos were all masterclass!
Brilliant! 👏🏽👏🏽
I absolutely love this
can't wait to see this channel hit 1+M subs.
Wow man great video, keep up the good work.
Ps: the restaurant's playlist in the description is great, thank you
Fantastic as always. Nice to see that you are in Asia now. Bravo !
I have reluctantly really started enjoying these videos. :D haha... great job!
I'm so glad you visited Singapore! Hope you enjoy the experience here :)
I really enjoy your content, thank you very much for the superb entertainment you offer here.
glad you got to go to Singapore, there is so much to explore in the world of food !
Welcome to Singapore! Glad you enjoy it!
The staff seems as incredible as you described them, indeed a very unique experience it seems! I would love to go there for the atmosphere alone
Really well done content!
your presentation is incredible i dont even notice how many minutes have past, the pacing is fabulous
Looks absolutely amazing.
Wow I want to visit one day when I can. Alexander you almost made me cry. Nice video!
Amazing video..as always :D
Great video as always!
So @Alexander The Guest
which Krug tastes better the 2008 or the 2000?
Thank you for your informative video, I am glad you give us a view of the inside arrangement of these restaurants. The service on this one seemed great but I wouldn't personally enjoy changing rooms for a different experience and unfortunately using stairs would be a problem with some of my family members. I am looking forward to even more of your content.
Amazing!
These videos are awesome! You deserve many more subscribers.
This man would choose a 2008 Krug over water from the fountain of youth. Keep up the good work!
I see you posting, I'm watching!
I can really feel the warmth. The crews are just the best
Alexander…what a treat! Thank you so much for all these great presentations. It seems to me you really like Krug? 😇 please consider reviewing The French Laundry. Greetings from Holland, Donald
Amazing:) Thanks
Well done as always
It looks an absolutely amazing meal. Would love to go there.
Alexander the Master))) Chapeau bas)) Pls continue being amazing & down to earth))))
oh my god i think i just fell in love with this restaurant. wouldn't be surprised if it gets in the top 50 2023 best restaurants in the world
Wow. It looks and sounds amazing. You are so lucky and I'm very jealous!
