I agree that instant-on is something to be valued. I’m using a third party monitor right now and it’s beyond irritating that on occasion it won’t wake up all the way. I get the buzz from my Apple Watch that the Mac woke up, but the display brightens slightly, then dims and the Mac goes right back to sleep. On occasion I have to reboot the Mac to force it to appear on the monitor. Note I’ve had similar problems with Windows machines, too, on all of my monitors so it’s not exclusively a Mac problem. I’m strongly considering an Apple monitor for this reason alone.
Right? That happened to me all the time. I’d have to like unplug and plug it back in or hit the input button for it to register. Let alone reboot the max. So annoying!
Thanks for taking the time to do this, underscoring the positive attributes. Obviously there are more than enough people who are intent on disparaging it, including some who were compelled to troll this video. Some people have too much free time.
Love these monitors, replaced my Dual A1316 Cinema 27 Displays with two of these Studio Displays and they are perfect. One is connected to my MacBook Pro 14 and the other to my work Dell Latitude 3420 with USB-C and it's putting out a 5K display. The Cool thing is I can connect both of them to the MAC and the Mac can push out two 5K displays and that's amazing. B&H got my 2nd monitor delivered in three days, the 1st one was from Apple ordered on launch and it took long back then. I guess B&H bought a bunch of them and they still carry some in stock. If my old Apple cinema Displays lasted for 12 years and still looked beautiful, I guess these Studio Displays will last as long. Keep up the good work Appleinsider.
Hello, I note you have been using the Apple Studio Display for a while now, do you experience High Pitch Intermittent Buzzing Noise (like Crickets)? I just purchased the Studio Display and while connecting at different locations in my home and with different devices (MacBook Pro and iPad), I'm getting a slight buzzing noise in background, which keeps going on and off..
… and don’t forget unlocking with Apple Watch. Just wait a second or two and have the screen unlock without having to type the password. It’s awesome. Just got the monitor last week and am happy with the purchase.
I don’t love the price, but finding a well built glossy 4k/5k monitor is impossible:( I currently have a 2011 iMac, and I’m wanting to buy a mac studio. I won’t buy a monitor with a matte display, and no other companies offer glossy 4k displays, so I’m stuck in apple limbo…
LG 5K is glossy - I got one recently, upgrade from the TB Display. It's okay, if you can live with the plastic ;-) 2nd hand is way less than 1/2 price of the Studio Display.
Since the monitor supports True Tone, it almost certainly supports Night Shift. If i'm not wrong, night shift is purely software (doesn't require hardware).
night shift works on any display plugged into a Mac because it's just a color shifting that's happening in MacOS. True Tone has nothing to do with night shift (or very little) as it's just designed to do minor tweaking to color tones to adjust for variances in ambient light.
Because I like yourncontent take this as constructive feedback. Your mic seems to be either not bassy enough, or there is too much atmosphere allowed in the mic, or it’s too quiet. Compare your videos to other popular techtubers maybe a good idea is to see how Zollotech or Rene Ritchie’s mics’ sound and compare to your videos. Thanks. Good video.
This really needs to be tested with Windows. Those of us who also have Windows laptops want to know if fast wake, the P3 colorspace, and any of the brightness and white-color adaption works. I know the camera won't work, but will any of the other features?
so many better options out there for Windows that are far less money. This Apple monitor is 8 bit, no HDR, 60hz and by all accounts the webcam image is awful.
@@neuronic85 I don't think it'll work well with windows systems. In my experience, even apple products that are great (e.g. Airpods) don't play well with non-apple devices. The studio monitor is of questionable value, even for mac users. I'd almost certainly not use it for windows machines, unless it serves a specific use case that is just not available elsewhere.
How about biggest drawbacks? 8 bit, No HDR, no ProMotion/only 60hz, poor image quality on the webcam, huge markups for the stand that raises and lowers and the non reflective screen.
HDR support isn't an issue. This meets HDR10 specs that most other monitors tout. But that version of HDR isn't great whereas when Apple supports HDR, they support true Dolby Vision HDR which is a much higher spec. I also don't care about ProMotion, but that may just be me.
Those are two completely different things. You can have a lossless file that's also spatial audio (aka surround sound). All speakers are capable of playing lossless audio... but when you're talking about wireless standards, many wireless standards don't support it. The studio display will play lossless audio, like all hardwired speakers have always been able to.
the A13 is powerful enough that it couldve turned the display into a receptionist iMac, but I'm guessing Apple is recyxlying binned chips and making better use of them.
I think you forgot to mention the non removable cable, lack of height adjustment ( the FULL 30 degrees don’t count ) potato quality webcam, HDR, local dimming…
Cable is removable and replaceable, I DID mention lack of HDR and local dimming. Additionally, HDR is a non-issue. It looks better than most HDR monitors out there that support the loosely-interpreted HDR10 spec. Also, if height is an issue, get the adjustable stand or put it on a monitor stand.

Can we have the wallpaper download link for the one at 1:25 please. It's really nice!
I just got my display last night…I actually packed my desktop speakers away! The audio is amazing!!
Can you please share the link of the wallpaper.

It comes with a stand? Thats amazing! And sad. I wanted to use it without a stand, just leaning it on the wall
This is an option when you purchase it

Buy the VESA mount version. No stand.
That instant wake-up feature is all that matters to me. No other monitor in the whole world has that.

Where can I download that Wallpaper at minute 09:45 from?
The stand is the first top feature?
😅
thanks for this top 12!!
GREAT Review very helpful now that my Mac 27 Inch is slowy saying goodby to me...

I hadn't noticed the True Tone sensor yet. Nice!
Yeah! Handy little hidden trick!
@@AppleInsider And the True Tone sensor is so beautifully, unobtrusively tucked into the design. Yes, that's Apple isn't it.
Hi! Great video! One question, Is it compatible With Apple TV ?

I could give you my 2014 iMac 5k retina 27 “ for 200$ - I compared to studio display the picture identical 😅 .
Where can I get the wallpaper. Love it.
I wish apple updated wallpapers daily and allowed us to automatically change frequently.
The wallpaper is so nice, please share if possible. Thanks.
I’m trying to decide between regular stand and Versa mount, I really hate at this price it doesn’t come with height adjustment
How is it a feature that you have to go to your local Apple store to change your monitor stand? + fixed power cable ?
How do you turn it off? I heard there isn't an on/off switch. Just curious in case I don't want to use it everyday.
it automatically turns off
delivery time in the uk is nearly 3 months..... ffffff
Where did you get the black mug with wooden handle on the video thumbnail?
Ha, funny enough I reviewed on my own channel.

Is it possible to connect the display to a console like the ps5?
I haven’t tried, but I bet a HDMI to USB-C cable would make it work! I kinda wanna try!

Nano glass is less good for photography.
Wait - did you say this is the same monitor as the 27" iMac. So you get to spend $1500+ for a screen and for $500+ you get a usable computer????????
Well the 27" iMac is gone, so no. But that would be effectively the same thing as picking up a Mac mini though it has plenty more ports.
